It seems to me that teamliquid has missed this news article, so I felt like I should post this to let everyone know (I don't follow the SC2 scene).
http://star2.gamechosun.co.kr/board/view.php?bid=news&num=29932
Checkout the news article for two pictures.. One's a gameplay picture (supposedly from the match between PHE/Kim-Tae-Young vs loadofdream/Kang-min aka Nal_rA) and the other one's a screenshot of nal_ra's ranking in his division(?).
Maybe one of the translators will get to work on this news article (or maybe everyone knows about this), but here's a rough translation.
'Dreamer' Kang-min, participates in Gisado Star Challenge as an anonymous...shows off his skills
Well known "second-generation" pro-gamer and commentator 'Dreamer' Kangmin attended the "Gisado Star Challenge" on October 25th, 2010 and gained attention.
Kang-min stayed anonymous and participated in a broadcast game with the id 'loadofdream' and displayed fascinating control for a comeback win against the player Kim-Tae-Young (Protoss), which made the audience curious of the winner's identity.
Commentator Hwang-Young-Jae (Gisado) soon revealed the surprising fact that 'loadofdream' was Kang-min. The Gom TV chat and variety of communities [forums, etc] showed positive response to Kangmin's "move" to Starcraft 2.
Kang-min's battle.net ID 'loadofdream' is supposed to be 'lord of dream,' which portrays his aka 'dreamer' or 'lord of dream,' but a funny episode of his nickname being shown as 'load of dream' must have influenced this ID [wdf this part was hard to translate...i guess nal_ra thought it would be funny to make his ID as loadofdream because there was an incident where the aka lord of dream was mistakenly showed/aired as load of dream, if someone could elaborate, that would be great].
Kang-min played about 1000 games to date with the race protoss, and is currently (October 26th, 2010) ranked 147th within Korea's ELL ranking with 2270 points.
Since Kang-min will be serving for the army till 2012, he will not be able to participate in GSL or any other official leagues for that matter, despite the fact that he shows potential in Starcraft 2 [I've read that he is currently working for a middle-school, helping out the teachers (공익근무요원). He's not training like how you would normally when serving in the army (possibly for his "old" age--not sure how the system works), but he is working for the government].
The fans are aware of this situation, so they are cheering for Kang-min to practice hard for 2 years to show-off his unique play style of 'of brood war in Starcraft 2 as a 'dreamer.'
The e-sport scene is dreaming of the 2nd Renaissance with these "old" players, such as Lim-Yo-Hwan (SlayerS_BoxeR), Lee-Yoon-Yeol (NaDa), Kim-Dong-Soo (Garimto), Byun-Gil-Sup (Sync), Choi-In-Gyu (ChRh), and many other former brood war pro-gamers currently in GSL Season 2, along with Kang-min in Starcraft 2.
//
Good news for sc2 players who switched from brood war! I'm a bit disappointed to see that nal_ra has possibly made the move to sc2 , but it's still awesome to see that nal_ra will continue to play starcraft and stick with the e-sports scene. Hopefully we will see another "revolution" of protoss as nal_ra gets out of his mandatory military service in 2012, I guess Nal_rA found some time to play games, and that's always a good news haha.
A question about the article... I don't know much about Starcraft 2, but isn't 2270 points...a bit low? Maybe the ELL ranking or whatever is shown in Korea is different. His stats are not that impressive either (534 wins 454 losses). Looks like just massing games to me...I really hope Nal_rA will improve much more by the time he is able to participate in GSL.
edit: just realized, if you look at the first picture carefully, it says "load of dreams." explains his ID
|
why would you be sad that he switch to SC2? this is his change to make a great comeback
gogo Old Boy Season 2 ^^
|
I support his switch.
I bet he would come up with some great strats
|
Looks promising for me! Nal_Ra is my favorite Protoss and I'd like to see his creative play in Sc2. We already got Boxer, Nada and July and Nal_Ra would be awesome addition for SC2! And about 1k games during military service? Hmm.. I don't know
|
2270 points with a record of 534 wins and 454 is an impressive record on korean servers. Dont compare NA and SEA servers with korean servers, they're on a much higher level
|
2270 means this picture is probably pretty old by now, because 2200 was top of the ladder several weeks ago. or he is just plain in a new division
|
Reading conprehension fail? The article states that it is october 26th, not december 26th. So the image itself is probably already outdated -.-
On another note, go nal_ra!!!!
|
Haha good to hear that nal_ra is actually doing well. I was hoping that BW scene would last until nal_ra's comeback in 2012, and nal_ra would have another oldboy season for bw again...lol. well, maybe i would have switched by then, who knows. I mean, if nal_ra played 1000 games, he could have done the same for brood war too.
|
He is going to rock when he joins sc2 ^^
|
Yeah it's super old. You can see that the article was written on october 28. Did a search for loadofdream on kr server and got nothing on sc2ranks.
|
old boy s2 would be awesome :D

Lol who is that above NalRa in his division? "jOyNalrA". Anway NalRa was among the first to play sc2 back in 2007 so it wouldn't surprise me.
|
Hell yeah go Nal_Ra!
Players like him could really benefit from the way sc2 is :D
|

That's almost certainly the same account as loadofdream, yep. If you look back at the stats for that account on SC2ranks at around the time this article was written it had 2269 points, pretty damn close to the 2270 in the picture here. Must've name changed after that.
|
If that is him, that's pretty good in points for now then!
|
Yellow "Kang Min, I am disappoint."

Kaaaang-min hwaiting
Old Boy was such an awesome show.

Shittt. He's the reason i chose protoss. It would be epic if he switched over. =D

Ah well atleast he might make me watch ALL his GSL matches, wtf I miss that guy so much ;>

Nalra was my fav player (who was also at the top of his game) when I first came into the SC scene.
Would be amazing to see the dreamer return (tho I dunno how high his level of play would be now).

he's pretty good from the reps i've seen. he still has a very nalra-esque simcity even in SC2, but when i watched him play it was like he didn't have a refined understanding of SC2 build orders and was just trying to play the game like it was BW, which is super easy to correct
btw, does anyone have replays or VODs of the games he was playing that were mentioned in the OP? i've been looking for more nalra games ever since TL released a couple of his replays

Nal_rA forever and after \o/, my favorite protoss player of all the time

Dreamer Toss, can't get enough of his BW play. Hope that SC2 will be a much better game when Kangmin finishes his army duty Kangmin go go go!!!!
|
Was always my favorite Toss and played Protoss in BW mostly because of him. Can't wait to see him play more in SC2.

Looking at that proile, it looks like he started playing some games again recently over the last few weeks. Also looking at http://kr.battle.net/sc2/ko/profile/758865/1/NalRa/matches he has lots of matches played today. Isn't he supposed to be in the army?
|
TheStc played while he was in the army. So apparently they allow you to play.
|
TheStc is raping it up too.
Come back Nal_rA!
|
this is awesome. INCEPTIONTOSS REVOLUTION!!!!!!

What makes you so sure that that profile is him? There are a ton of "Nalra"s on the KR server, there's even another one in Master league: http://kr.battle.net/sc2/ko/profile/3066276/1/NalrA/ That's not to say that I doubt Gisado's stream, but even if the RealID is accurate, that doesn't cement a connection with profile 758865 or 3066276. There's no way to even know the web profile of an in-game player. You have to run a name search on SC2Ranks and for this particular name there are a lot of results.
|
Nuff necro. It would be awesome if he joined, but I am tempted to agree with the poster saying it is SloG over NalRa joining, though most likely a fake. Also, playing is very different to playing competitively.

FXOpen livestream, don't have a screenshot, but he was playing on it. Also, conveniently plays other FXO players.

god if Nal_ra and Yellow both take up SC2 I will flip the fuck out.

The account you linked goes back to march '11, while the other nalra account has history back to summer '10. And yes there are a lot of nalra accounts, but they all have a very low ranking and number of matches, so i doubt its the real man.
Sort of surprising though that he would lend his account to an FXO player, maybe he is somehow involved in the scene then?
|
Before everyone starts freaking out, I'd like to point out this is a necro from 2010, lol.

I got really excited, and then I looked at the date of the OP

Holy crap.. I didn't even see this thread.
Didn't even know he played. I guess he switched after he failed to qualify for OSL?
Definitely would love to see him play sc2!

I was thinking the exact same thing. This made me want to switch races anyway, in spirit of nal_ra , I hope he does play SC2 though that would be awesome.

Yea, I didn't notice either, at least now I know that he played SC2 and tried it out. Who knows, maybe he would like to play again. I hope he does, he was my favorite player back in BW days from the Koreans.
|
Nal_Ra will actually make motherships viable.
|
Horray dreamtoss! I wish he would have gone back to brood war, but this is the next best thing. I wonder what team he'll join. And yes he would make use of all the under used units. :D
|
I was watching Rainbow's stream and there was a friend named Nal_ra that logged in, the real id was 강민 (fluent in both eng/kor). Anyway, wasn't sure if it was confirmed or not, but I imagine there aren't many Koreans with the one syllable names, let along a Nal_ra named 강민.
|
Oh my god if Nal_Ra and the Old boy series gets renewed I will go ape shit next thing you know Yellow will be back and then Hyung Joon comes out of nowhere lol
|
In this interview, he says that he's definitely interested in playing SC2 (at 7:37). Granted, it's from 09.
|
Nal_Ra is amazing, would love to see him play sc2 when hes done with service.
And maybe another series of oldboy, seriously anyone who didn't get teary eyed at the end of the show is soulless .
|
that'll be even better for the sc2 scene when he switch... :D
|
I see him on the korean server streams, like huk talking to him so im guessing he already plays? not sure about competitively

Well, Huk and NalRa don't have a common language. So it's likely not the real him.
