With the winding down of the M&A season (crosses fingers) I have some down time at work to catch up on some SC2 action. I was browsing through playxp.com and noticed this little piece of information that I think was not reported here in TL, so I thought I would put my old translating hat on and give it a whirl.
A brief summary to start: The Slayers clan (sls) will be conducting a 128 player tournament to choose new members for the clan. While this is pretty noteworthy, the REAL news is that members of the clan will be eligible to become the members of sls team.. looks like we may see the formation of the sls team in the near future! The following is a translation of a post left by 임요환 himself on the playxp.com forums ... where he copies a post on his sls clan website.
Hello! This is Lim Yo Hwan. I'm here posting again after my last post. ^^; I hope we will have a lot of participants. I have copied the announcement left on our clan website. I hope I won't have to provide evidence this time! [note: a lot of people wondered whether it was the real Boxer last time he posted in the forums regarding the formation of the clan]. I don't post much on the forums, but I read through it every day.
<Announcement: SLS Clan 2nd recruitment> Hello! I am the sls clan master, sls jessica ^^ (Not the SNSD Jessica -_-) The second phase of our SLS clan recruitment will take place on Sunday, December 19th. This time around, the recruitment process will be a bit different from our previous recruitment drive. While the first phase of recruitment was solely for the recruitment of members of the sls clan, the purpose of our second recruitment is for the creation of the sls team. All members of the sls clan (both those from the first and second recruitment phases) will be eligible to be members of the sls team. The minimum criteria for recruitment during the second phase has therefore been adjusted to be more demanding. While the selection process for the actual team itself will not be disclosed, any sls clan member with skill and passion will be eligible.
Also, members of other clans who are not already a member of a team are eligible to participate in this second phase of recruitment.
The recruitment process will be an offline BO3 128 man tournament [note: no mention yet of how many people are actually going to be chosen]. The top ranked ladder players from each race will be chosen for the 128man field. Please reply in our Q&A forum for any questions. The time and place of the tournament will be announced separately.
Maps for the tournament: Zel'naga caverns, Metapolis and Scrap station.
Please note that the date of the tournament may be changed from the announced date (19th) due to unforseen circumstances. Also, the previous restriction for application to our cafe [website] is still 2000 point diamond. (Also, please don't confuse this with the the selection process for the recruitment tournament).
Our sls clan values gaming skills but also feel that sincerity, diligence and overall qualificaiton as a teammate is very important. We hope to have many new players who wish to improve their skills and show limitless potential participate in the tournament.
[EDIT: There seems to be some confusion about the differentiation of clan/team. A clan is basically a group of players under a single tag, generally for the purpose of practicing.. a team is basically a managed group of players who may or may not be salaried who will generally live together in a single practice house. In this case, members of the sls CLAN are eligible for selection into the sls TEAM. For those interested, Cella is currently a member of the CLAN.]

Lol. I'm pretty sure everyone knows the difference between a BNet 'clan' and a team .

Awesome to hear they're still trying to get new members. In the end SLS will be better than all the other korean clans

Thanks for translating it, I did see this the other day and wondered whether it had anything to do with the official team. It's nothing quite so excited, but I'm always glad to see news from The Emperor.

Quick question: - If you make it into the sls clan, do you earn a modest salary already?
Or with other words, can this be seen as a job interview?

Or with other words, can this be seen as a job interview? Well we as public don't know. What we do know is that if Boxer makes a team he will get additional money for maintaining a team by Intel. Not sure anymore how much but it's quite a lot of money.

That's pretty cool! I was wondering why the previous list was so long, but now it makes a lot more sense. I guess I missed the details the first time around.

while i agree in general, i'm around 1950 and i suck. so it doesn't say that much, does it? :p

this would be great motivation for me if i were on the korean server and around that level :D gl to everyone, a chance to team up with these guys is once in a lifetime :D

Interesting that the three maps for the tournament are the same as those for GSL 3 prelims. Assuming they are somewhat P unfavored, as was speculated, they might select for more terran and zerg players in the clan.

Admittedly, I haven't had my KR account for nearly as long, but working up the ladder is actually challenging. I made it to diamond without any problem NA both on the original servers and on the PTR, but working up the KR ladder is very different. I have just as much of a challenge, if not more, against KR plat / gold players than the 2000+ diamond players on the NA server.
And no, I'm not saying I don't suck. Just that compared to the KR ladder I apparently suck much more.

Yes he is, I wonder what is going to happen to the current member of the clan... Will they need to sign up and compete as well? This should be adressed!
[edit] and it was!
All members of the sls clan (both those from the first and second recruitment phases) will be eligible to be members of the sls team

Sooooooooo Jealous TT I wonder how many people will jump ship from already established teams to get on the SLS team : O

Boxer said that he would not take players from other teams, and in this new post it says that players from other clans that are not in the teams can join as well, so I dont think we will see any team jumping.

How are they able to run an offline tournament? Do they have access to lan clients?
|
On December 13 2010 22:33 Sanguinarius wrote: How are they able to run an offline tournament? Do they have access to lan clients? Offline generally means on-site, so everyone has to go to a specific location to play. they still use BNet though.
Yeah... it's kinda stupid but that's what we have.

Btw, I'm guessing there's a difference when they mention clan and team. Team = Like oGs, with a practicehouse + management + salary (don't know if they get one though ) Clan = Group of individuals playing together but all on their own costs?
Can anyone verify?

same asking here!
can we summon Nazgul or anyone in the team/clan management to explain for us?
|
I think thats the general definition, a clan is like a community pool of players who play under the banner of a team, but the team itself is usually a set squad of higher quality players who play it tournies under the team name. Sometimes there is movement between. At least thats the difference between clan and team in stuff like FPS's. Where you clan maybe 15-20 members big but your team will be the same 5 people. The others are there for practice, community and stuff like that.
|
clan = community team = team (as in serious competitive team)
for 99% of the uses of the distinction between the two.
|
So... if Boxer is forming a team & a clan. We can assume the team as the A team from BW and the clan the practice partners and/or B team?
|
Difference between sls clan and team? They keep using different terms and make it seem like they are different things.
edit: interesting points about clan/team
|
pretty sure "oGs", "TSL" and "IM" are "Teams". But what about fOu?
|
Looks like Boxer is trying to keep things fresh and make everyone work hard to keep their spot on the roster. best of luck to him and whoever qualifies.

Someone more qualified than me might tel me im wrong, but doesn't this seem kind of unprofessional ? Here you have this huge sum of money from Intel, and you're suppose to put together a strong team, and a tournament will decide who ?

Here you have this huge sum of money from Intel, and you're suppose to put together a strong team, and a tournament will decide who ? I don't understand your point. Would you prefer that they pull names out of a hat? If the point is to pick the strongest players.. wouldn't a tournament (which would actually be a display of skill .. generally) be much more "professional" than arbitrarily picking some of your closest friends?
Also, I would like to clarify, the tournament is NOT to determine who gets to join the TEAM. That will be done at another time and will not be disclosed, as per the announcement on the website. The tournament is to decide who will be allowed to join the CLAN, .. clan members are, however, eligible to be members of the TEAM.

what im trying to say: boxer has to take the leftovers, so the tournament decides which of the leftovers are the best and therefore worth a shot.

This is a great recruitment tool for people interested in joining the clan and possibly making the team roster if they are good. This is also good attention brought to the clan itself. Maybe Boxer just wants new practice partners in the end? Either way I don't think Intel minds if the person(s) casting it mention Intel is the sponsor and buy their stuff. Seems good for everybody involved.

Of course you could buy players. Give a team a lot of money and they will change the contract, if both player and team agrees. However, I think there is so much potential out there, that it isnt necessary. It doesnt take long to make a good talented player into a very good player, because the game is very young. Buying players would make sense for practice partners, if you need somebody who is particularly good in one matchup.

He has appeared on Gisado's stream
I read on PlayXP that it is infact Kang Min (NalRa). I believe the game he played against HayprO in the lw17 replay pack is him.
Also:
Actually, 매의눈 SHOULD translate to Hawk Eye...which is Effort's nickname omg if it's really effort im gonna dance.
