Not just by a little bit too, seems like he is spoken of as someone who just utterly dominated, a Michael Jordan type for lack of a better analogy. If he didn't win those world championships or dominate the scene for so long to capture the attention of millions, competitive gaming would be no where near as big. Korea wouldn't have taken pro gamers seriously (if they lost to foreigners who didn't train as hard). It would still be viewed as a fun pasttime w/ no career possibilities. So to the newbies: You're able to follow GSL and pro leagues because BoxeR built this shit. He should be paid a 5% comission from all proceeds, honestly. Large monetary awards often kills creativity...

According to HD / Husky, Slayer.Boxer is ManOfOneWay, but when I looked at the charts for the GSL 2, there's another guy named BoXer on the list as well. I'm guessing ManOfOneWay is Slayer.Boxer while BoXer is another guy with the name.

You're also more likely to try to analyze your opponents play and come up with new strategies and tactics to counter your opponents' plays if they all go standard/nothing new. Assuming they go standard, you can keep tweaking around with timings, etc. Although I'd def say nonetheless your statement holds a lot of validity.

Imagine how the numbers will jump as the rounds go up. Imagine if Boxer makes the final. GomTV better be ready for this. We are talking about 1-2 million people logging on simultaneously. To date, Boxer is the only gamer who is a household celebrity name outside of the gaming community.

Not just by a little bit too, seems like he is spoken of as someone who just utterly dominated, a Michael Jordan type for lack of a better analogy. Did he just crush everyone? Lots of reasons. He's not exactly the most dominant. NaDa, for example, has won more starleagues than Boxer has and a few other people have won just as many as he has. It was when he became dominant that sets him apart. Back then, Korean e-sports wasn't that far ahead compared to NA/EU, even for BW. Boxer's dominance, coupled with his flair and charisma, moved Korean e-sports to the mainstream while e-sports in general is still a fringe event in the rest of the world. He's essentially the father of e-sports. Terran was considered the weakest race back then. Boxer's innovations made it the strongest race and even now, Terran players have won the most starleagues. That's with 0 balance patches whatsoever. He just revolutionized the race that much. His style of play is more exciting as well. He's very good at coming up with unique build orders and thinking fast in the heat of the moment. The team he started, SK Telecom, has the most awards as well, even though he hasn't played at a high level in a long time in BW. Add exciting play to period of dominance, charisma, media-friendly image, media savvy and dating a famous Korean actress and that's Boxer.
