If you lose more, then that's it. That's free market economics at it's worst, unfortunately.

MLG investing into Starcraft is kinda like investing in stock. You're giving your money to a company that might not make it, but if they do make it, then you'll profit a lot.

He basically replied 'i had 50k extra to put into prize money for the year and it was decided the grand finals is where it should be'

Someone needs to make a MLG thread with Sundance's epic speech. MLG really is the focal point for SC2 esports in the USA, something so many people preach about but never 'walk the walk'.

Also there should be a community competition for bio videos about the various players, in order to advance the storyline.

Agreed, to me at least, I don't think Sundance understood/answered the question, all he said was, come help us by spending more money so we have more money for cash prizes was, when in fact NonY was simply not comfortable with a top heavy prize pool distribution.

He dodged the question because he knows it's a pretty good idea but the decision has already been made and they really can't or doesn't want to change the prize pool allocation at this point.

Yeah I don't think he did.

However in terms of spectators having the $50,000 championship makes it a massive deal. Which should draw more people into that. So if they get some people for the first time to tune in there they might get them hooked for next year.

Well I think the main thing it sounded was they had the prize pool all structured for the year, then essentially got another 50k to throw into the mix. Rather than decide to spread it out they figured making the national championship that much more prestigious and top heavy would draw attention to it. While more $ for the normal events is better for the players, I think from a marketing standpoint the top heavy final tournament is the way to go.

I think he said that adding 50k to the national championship and build up the hype is a much better way to attract sponsors who are huge Fortune500 companies whereas Tyler's pov is good for the competitors pov.

That said, fans can help also by buying T-shirts/HD passes which will increas prize pool.

I think the top heavy thing is because they have a set amount of money for the season and one huge tourney is more profitable and attention getting than several middle sized ones. I could see Koreans going to the championships or something, but they wouldn't bother if it was like 5 15k tourneys.
