Is it just me or has it been difficult to impossible to keep up with even the major tournaments? They're coming so quickly, I can barely keep track of who has won what.
With that thought in mind, I was watching television a few days ago when SportsCenter came on at 11 pm. It took me 10 seconds to realize that StarCraft needed its own news and highlights show to summarize the scene - that way, maybe I'd have an idea of what the hell is going on.
SC Center is my attempt at that show. Just about every day (depending on news and real life), I'll be putting out a 5-10 minute show wrapping up major tournaments and highlighting a match or two. Putting these few minutes together on a regular basis won't be easy but it'll help me immensely in my role as a writer for TL and just as a fan.
Before I started doing this, it felt like I needed help to put 2 and 2 together (5?). For the past few days, as I've toyed with this show, I've been doing a much better job keeping up with the whole scene. I hope it can help you guys too. If people dig it, I'll be posting new episodes to this thread as they come and archiving them here.
If you want to help, feel free to recommend key games or tournaments that I should look at. Otherwise, just sit back and watch. I really recommend you watch this in full-screen HD. It looks much, much prettier that way and you'll be able to easily read all of the informational insets.
Feedback welcomed - I know there is much to improve! This is one of my first attempts at it and I still don't have the overall flow of the show that I'm going for and I haven't fully grasped the software. Also, I cursed out San Diego in there. That's probably bad.
So, this is just an idea I had. I'm going to keep it up for a while and, if people like it, for as long as I can. It's all a learning process, hopefully the result is a good 10 minutes that'll keep everyone informed.

i have a rough script set out. ill try to smooth it out next time. thanks !
If only my laptop didn't explode every time I tried to watch HD/Flash/Video/Movement of any kind, I'd watch this. It sounds like a great idea. Hopefully it can be expanded into a daily 30 minute show?
Good job on an interesting idea, I think you did well but I have a few criticisms;
-Mostly the sporadic long dead air pauses throughout the show. I appreciate that you're giving time for people to read what you put on the screen or whatever else but, as this is a VOD show, if someone misses something they want to read they can just click back to that part or pause the show. Another option here is to simply include more information in the Youtube underbar or with each new video. Links to sources, etc.
-Also you stutter a few times, which in itself isn't really a big deal but as you're taping and editing the show I feel like you could make a little more effort to just re-record lines and edit them back in clean (not that you're not putting forth enough effort in the first place).
-As someone else said earlier you sound quiet and a little nervous when you talk. I personally don't mind when people talk fast but others might not be able to hear what you say sometimes. This is something that will probably be remedied by more experience though.
Look forward to future episodes because I think this is a great concept given the innumerable amount of tournaments and events to follow.
Great idea, hopefully you stick with it, keeping it short, with some nice highlights of some games. Some room for improvement obviously but will hopefully iron out these kinks as you keep on making more episodes.
Awesome idea, it really is hard to keep up with all the new tournaments and matches coming through the pipe. I especially like the "what to watch" section as a guide on what's worth watching if you've got limited time. Good stuff.
The game sounds are quite loud, especially when you're trying to talk over them. Also, the game sounds aren't synchronized with the gameplay (especially noticeable in #1 highlights).
Haha, I loved how the serious professional narration transformed into go fuck yourself, San Diego. :D
Anyway, great idea and it's nice to see that people try to do more than just another shoutcaster channel. Try not to forget that this is not TV but VOD - you don't need the announce at the beginning, especially for such a short program. If you start making longer episodes, it might be useful.
Also, I think that a lot of people (including your sources) would appreciate putting links on the video for whatever you are talking about at the moment.
Doing a commentary along with video editing rather than a straight cast can be a cumbersome task for one guy. I appreciate the info and the format. If you just continue doing these without spending too much time critiquing yourself, you'll naturally get better. Best of luck.
Awesome show, and a great idea. Definitely take advantage of the underbar on youtube to post links/more info for the topics you're covering. I'm now subscribed and looking forward to more
Great idea, deffo subscribing. Good luck on researching and stuff, definitely there is a big hole for "general coverage" like this, theres far too much going on atm.
Just watched episode 3. I thought it was really good. As someone who hasn't been following that closely the past month or so, I appreciated the short rundown of the upcoming events for the IEM tournament.
Seriously, man, Canada is actually getting scary. I was impressed and full of pride with some of the good players we had on top, but it's getting ridiculous now. AcidiC, drewbie, Stalife, HuK, Silver, KiWiKaKi, TTOne... isn't Sheth Canadian, too?
I hate my laptop. That having been said, the first 40 seconds were pretty good...
[edit] Now that I've been able to watch more, you have a small error. Top 4 ITC players move to ITL. Every few months the top ITL players move to the ITL GP. ITL and ITC (currently) have no prizes aside from the chance to move to ITL GP (which does have prizes).
[edit again!] Very nice episode. Every new one is of higher quality than the last. Keep up the good work.
if anyone has any replay recommendations or any recommendations for coverage at all, feel free to leave them here or pm me or whatever your heart desires.
thanks again for all the feedback, it's been super useful.
hopefully i can figure out a way to get new viewers. it's painfully low right now but i know im doing something of use - just gotta figure out how to get it out there, eh?

dont worry these things take time. its best to start small, learn from mistakes and build it up. the idea of espn from the start was criticized early on because not everyone believed a 24/7 sports channel would ever work... now look at em.
omfg choboPEon... I just played you this morning... your goddamn hellions roasted my drones so badly ....
But anyways, on topic. I like show, because like you said its pretty hard to keep up with all these tournaments going, especially for people who don't have all the time in the world to sit down at a computer and browse through them all. So it's really awesome knowing who's on top, who's winning, and who's losing.
Keep it up. It's like listening E-sports news lol.
This is some really high quality stuff for a video a day, and even if it wasn't made so fast it is still really nice. My only complaints so far are during your game of the days. They start off a little laggy, or maybe they stay laggy but I think a very simple obvious solution is to just lower your graphics so that doesn't happen. I don't so much mind the lag as much as it makes the nice pretty video look suddenly very unprofessional/bad. My other complaint is that you show waaay too much video for what you want to convey. For example you showed that drewbie won the game and his opponent conceded, and you waited for what felt like an entire minute of non-sped up time for his opponent to concede. I suggest either just using some nice time-warping to make it look less choppy or for you to come up with more lines to say during the video. I imagine that if you talked during a overly long clip that it might look better than when you stop talking and we watch in silence.
Thanks a ton for what you are doing, it looks fantastic and I hope you continue with this
ok just watched it and like the others i think it should be more fast paced especially the highlights (a second of dead air online is like a minute to all us fast paced internets people).
perhaps put on more shorter clip highlights of the games? make it like recaps similar to the espn sc.
also maybe you can get a co-caster? take turns doing highlights to mix it up a bit. also it can help you put on more content since you can only watch and analyze so many games.
Nice show. One suggestion is to make it easier to follow what you're talking about. Make more easily viewable grids and tables so we can see exactly the results of matches etc. Otherwise i like your somewhat smooth and harmonic voice and the concept is very nice.

I was Snuggles lol.
I just watched a few of those episodes, really quality stuff man. Again its a big help for people who don't have the time to sit down and catch up on the news by browsing through countless threads.
This is awesome, consider me subscribed. That drewbie vs. acidic game was fricken hilarious. Also, drewbie played pretty well for literally the worst player idra's ever seen.
Just watched episode four. Again, really good. A few critiques: You spend most of the cast showing different pictures, or altering them enough to stay interesting. From about 1:00-2:00 you kept mostly the same picture up while you talked about the status of the tournament. As a more visual person, it would have been nice to see something that flowed better with what you were talking about. The other thing is the SC Center replay timer block is really ugly =P. It's way larger than necessary and feels like it invades on the space a bit too much.
Pretty small nitpicks. I really enjoy watching these, keep it up!
I really recommend you watch this in full-screen HD. It looks much, much prettier that way and you'll be able to easily read all of the informational insets.
These daily, rapidfire updates are great. This was probably stated previously, but it would be nice if you could make your videos in 16 : 9 aspect ratio. I'm very impressed with how much the overall quality production has improved just after five episodes. Please keep them coming!
Just a bit of work with the audio relations is all I have to suggest right now (and a fix to that gaudy replay-cover graphic.) If you're going to have very distracting music like that at the start, lower it a notch more than usual -- actually, no matter what song it was, it could've been just a little more quiet. Same goes for the in-game sound: lower it a bit. I could hear your voice clearly, but the sounds were a bit annoying.
I did not find the music in the start annoying but it could be abit lower, same goes for ingame sound, even tho i can understand and hear all you say, it could be abit lower
I really enjoy these updates you do! Informative and it sums up whats going on in the SC world well.
A few things that I would suggest is about your "Game of the Day". I think it should be brief covering just the highlights. Right now you do show the exciting parts of the game but it feels too long and it should be bullet point comments. A 30-60sec coverage of the game would make things flow much better. Also, if the game is on youtube or some other video hosting site tell your viewers where they can see the whole game. It is the game of the day and many people will go check it out.
Once again, love the show and I will keep on watching.

Agree with this. There is a Glut of replay commentary video out there and it would be better to focus on the news aspect. However, either way. Good stuff and thanks. I'll be watching daily.
One suggestion I had is lowering the audio levels of the music, or raising the audio levels of your voice towards the beginning. It's hard to hear over the music.
It's not only youtube, bliptv cut it short too, so the problem is probably on your end, also the playback on blip was horrible to watch with numerous skipped frames. Your mic quality is rather bad but its nothing unbearable, I really like your style and what you are saying but for the love of god adjust the background volume when you are speaking. For the sixth time now in the beginning the music is as loud as you are, and in the end it's the same with the replay, we can hardly hear you when there is any action.

fuck. okay. will fix.
and by "will fix" i mean, #7 will have much better sound. i just went through a giant delete session so i cant fix too much with this episode. oh well!
I found that with using the quicktime player on blip.tv makes it lag and bad :b so it switched over to the regualr player and it went smooth as always, except for the 2 last minutes were the audio cuts off

i am a terran player! but i'm only not picking idra simply because terrans have been his Achilles heel, not because i think theyre so much better than him. it would not surprise me if he won but, likewise, would anyone be totally shocked if a good terran knocked him out of the tournament? it's just how things go for him.

cheers, also keep up the good work, I'm quite sure it will pick up sooner or later, we need this kind of show one small detail that might make it even better would be to link to everything you'r saying anything about (also to the replay), so it's a lot more informative
Big improvement over yesterdays episode, each day gets better - aside from it getting cut early on youtube and blip.tv. @ the picking on idra comment, I don't think it's so much picking on him it's more along the lines of a balance conversation (which isn't gonna take place here) and how he's been unlucky facing T when it matters.
It's mostly flash that's doing the murdering. But at least from YouTube I can download the videos as mp4's and watch them in VLC just fine. Also, I'm on Linux so iTunes can suck it. Nice job though.
I'm going to continue hunting for a way to download blip.tv videos.

i can't blame you for saying itunes can suck it, thats just the only place i've gotten it up so far.
downloading from blip is easy, isnt it? go to the individual episode page and below the comments you can click download. easy.
blip for some reason is a nightmare for connections, at first i thought it was just here at work but even at home it is horrible. not to mention to get to any video you have to watch some goofy advertisement that loads slow and you can't skip. I first noticed this on day9's blip videos.
I agree about the comments of the dead time, the time with big pauses. If you can remove those, that will help.
Also, for your sake as well as for reaching the most possible people, keeping the length of these down at first might be a good thing. Just the highlights, for instance.
The things that I'd most like to know regarding SC2 news--
Anything dramatic in the community. If two players are fighting, that's kind of interesting. If there's a great post in TL that has everyone up in arms, that's good too.
News about the top players. So and so is taking a break. So and so is going to try going pro.
The upcoming opportunities to see some cool event on live-stream. I seem to always miss these.
Maybe a recap of what the hot new replays are and what are the options for watching them through a VOD with cast.
Just my $.02--I hope you find the sweet spot here for how much time it takes you and what will get you a big fat audience.

Same here. Maybe it would be worth a shot to ask Husky to give a shoutout to this show, with his number of subscribers it might get the show a nice boost, as it certainly deserves it
I love what you're doing here. I want to get into the latest and best tournaments going down so I can watch some great games but I really have no idea what's going on, watching your show helps a lot. Some ideas/criticism though:
* When showing games, the editing could be better. I found it a bit hard to hear the commentary on the latest game of the day, maybe you could have boosted the sound there, or maybe you could have commentated over it. * Even more indepth info about the current/upcoming events would be awesome. I feel this is your main strength, so make sure it's perfect. Links to the tournaments, specific dates and times, more discussion about what players are in, what to look forward to.
I'd be a super-human if I were able to follow the scene down to every series alongside everything going on in my life right now, so featuring these awesome games is greatly appreciated. Seriously, your show is short, to the point, and nails it's niche. Again, thanks. Hope to soon see better resolution, both in relative clip size and bigger size over-all.
Great game of the day for today (Episode 7) I disagree with having you commentate over it, and I think it was nice to just let us hear Raelcun's comments. It was pretty weird to start with that rather than having it come at the end but it was still exciting. Were you preemptively recording that stream just in case something happened?
Just watched for first time. Didn't really expected a news-like sc2 show. It's new and I haven't seen any other caster doing this. It helps to let you stay up to date with all international sc2 scene news which is awesome.
If the "Game of the Day" takes the longest to set up you can try recruiting some good commentators to help you out. What they can do is record their commentary of a tournament or showmatch and send them to you to put in your show. Have them include who the game was between, map, and time where there was a lot of action or momentum swing. Similar to what Ysorigin said about your Episode 7, it is fun to hear the excitement from the commentator at the time the game was happening. This will help you find the good points in each game and will probably cut your work down a bit. It will also benefit the commentator by giving him a little more publicity on your show.
Still enjoying the show a lot! Keep up the good work.
I would happily pay $10-15/mo for a daily 1 hour show recapping current tournament activity, patches and showmatches. Perhaps with a featured game of the day.
Keep it up, make the show a bit more polished, set up a paypal... ???... Profit.
Raelcun, Gunrun, Martijn (sp?), are good commentators. They do a lot of smaller tournaments. A little hesitant about suggesting this, but HD and Husky could really give you a boost if they got on board. My only problem with the two, is that they aren't (in my opinion) very good commentators. However, they do bring a lot of energy to the game and they are well known amongst the SC2 community.
chobopeon, you are so awesome for doing this. Your a champ for watching all the craziness and following the scenes and summarizing it. I hope ur getting some help from others. This might burn u you if u don't
I love the concept, the only thing I would suggest avoiding is referring to yourself at all in the first person outside of giving people your screenname or handle. It makes what is otherwise a very polished presentation seem amateurish.
Heh, so the drama begins. That's what people wanna see. IdrA inciting!
@Crixus: Why are you punctuating ur? Like, I don't get being lazy and not typing-out "your," then punctuating your horrible bastardization of the English language.

I enjoyed it actually, I hadn't heard about any of this Idra ESL nonsence.
I'm extremely surprised at the apparent unprofessionalism of ESL, how do you mess up the brackets like that? And then to tell the player he has to replay half his matches, that's kind of ridiculous. Not that Idra's response was any more professional, but I can't disagree with what he said.

Your blip RSS feed doesn't seem to be working, either with the link you gave or by clicking the RSS button in the address bar(that just gives blip's default rss).
Wow, chobo. I just watched Ep. 11. I think you're hitting your stride. Great job!
Are you enjoying yourself?
Also, this is one of the main ways that I (and others) will see that you have a new episode up. People do this with the dailies too--just wait for the thread to bump, open it, and click the link inside.
You might want to link to the blip.tv version if that's where the money is for you rather than embedding the Youtube. Of course, you may have a plan for all that, so ignore me.
The youtube/blip situation is tricky. For now, I feel that I have to embed the youtube version because it is the easiest way to get the word out. Have some plans, we'll see if they work out.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Expect bigger and better as time goes on!
I am quite aware of the stretchy resolution and I will fix that in my next cast. Sorry! Hope it doesn't make it unwatchable. At least the skipping is gone eh? I fixed that..
Real life is making me produce this in a haste (no time to go back and re-render) but I'll be back in ~48 hours with a new, giant video for the IEM with very pretty visuals.
Just watched the latest episode, it's obvious how much it's improving from the first ones (although they're all good). I hope you get some well deserved attention for this, and that maybe some sponsorship opportunities arise in the future.
It's really impressive to be producing this level of content every single day. I know how much time commitment and dedication it requires, especially when there's not necessarily a huge audience this early on.
Really like this. Bookmarking, would be nice if you could include both blip.tv and youtube link though I guess since i preffer youtube over blip (and it seems like you are uploading to both?) :< but whatever.
why in the world aren't there anti-spoilers on the ESL site, and why are the replays so hard to find that by the time you find them, you already know the results?
Chobo, I am having a bit of trouble finding the links to the replays you mentioned were in the video description, but I can't seem to find them. I'm watching the vid @ http://sccenter.blip.tv/, and all I see is "SC Center Episode 14, 8/22/10 Morrow defeats Idra to win the IEM Global Challenge at Gamescon, Dimaga takes down Tarson to earn 3rd place. ;All replays:"
Thank you for the Itunes Podcast. the show is perfect for both my iPhone and iPad. I hope more shows will follow up with support for these devices without the need to re encode.
A suggestion: Could you somehow find a way to put usable links in the iTunes episode description? Right now I have to find the corresponding Youtube VOD to get the links.
Some criticism (since the rest is so good): You spend a good enough part of the beginning listing all the players and their nationalities, when we can clearly see them ourselves. It would be better to call portraits up or something
Just want to add my voice to the crowd: This is an excellent show, and I'm really glad Chill plugged it so I could find out about it. I'll be watching regularly now.
The youtube version plays a lot better. For some reason the ones on blip.tv that uses Quicktime really slows down my computer and nearly crashed the browser.
The Observer is a weekly round-table looking back at the last 7 days of StarCraft. Enjoy and, as always, feedback is welcome. ( The next episode will be shorter and will have a big visual aspect )
You have been saying for weeks now "Stay tuned I have big things planned, bla bla bla". Can you just stop doing that? It's so reminiscent of the people who have hyped all the shit they're going to do and then done nothing. Actions speak louder than words and I'd like to believe you're not going to fall into the classic Starcraft trap that dozens have before you...
Can you be careful with the music you choose please? For example #16 is blocked in countries Youtube doesn't have an agreement with Sony over music rights in.
as someone without a ton of free time right now....I think your SC Center is awesome. You've also really improved your speaking and the overall quality of the production (try to have more consistent volume). Good job man, keep it up. Hopefully you can continue to expand the show with more content (more highlights and some brief interviews?)
Also your already doing this but keep in mind (imo) pure results alone aren't that interesting, its the storylines, drama, significance, etc that should be focused on. (I got a kick out of Silver being notorious for good manner). Keep improving and thanks for the work your putting in!
Great casts, great idea, sadly episode 16 had some music on it which makes it unwatcheable in Europe. The casts are much too short for the work you must have put into them to look for awesome replays and to edit out the critical moments of these games for your cast.
I've got a weird problem. I watch all episodes on blip.tv and it works fine. However, when I tried watching The Observer the browser said "missing plug-in", even though it wouldn't let me install anything.
Oh, one more thing. As your audience grows, you'll find that everybody wants to give you their $.02 on what you should change.
Too long. Too short. I hate _____. I love _____. Don't say _____. You should _____. Why did you ____? Why didn't you _____?
Keep your internal compass. Read the feedback, but you have to have a clear vision for what YOU enjoy doing and think will build the kind of audience you like.
For every one person who gives you feedback, there are dozens, maybe hundreds, who didn't. It can be easy to forget that feedback, though often valuable, is not a representative sample. Take it all in, but don't let it dictate what you're doing unless you find yourself agreeing with the points someone's making.

Today is a long review of day 1 of mlg, the patch notes and day 1 of gsl. now, i wish i had some video to show you for mlg while i read through some of the results but the non-hd cast was unwatchable in full screen. maybe i'll just make a habit out of getting the hd stream for every major event for the sake of the review shows.

I love your show and watch them all the time. Sort of surprised that I got mentioned but I think you misunderstood me.
What I mean is the "casual" fan does not know him. Every hardcore fan does, but to the average fan they don't know about him. This was further reinforced to me when I went to the midnight release of SCII. There was about 40 people there. Roughly 5 had no idea people played SC professionally or anything about shoutcasting. There was no one there that was a true hardcore fan. Only one person knew about TL and the rest had seen some HDH videos or whatever.
When I was asking them about players (naturally I was promoting the shit out of iCCup TV), not one single person there had a clue in hell who Kiwikaki was. They ALL (minus the 5 clueless ones) knew IdrA, Day9, LzGaMeR, or HuK but not one single person had even ever heard of Kiwikaki before.
I am a HUGE MMA fan and this is a age old thing in that sport. To put this in perspective let's use Lyoto Machida as an example. Lyoto Machida was hailed as the future of the sport from the time he fought Rich Franklin back in 2004 by all the hardcore fans. But it was not until he beat Tito Ortiz, Thiago Silva, and Rashad Evans in the UFC that any casual fan knew about him. Unfortunately as is the case in every sport the casual fan outnumbers the hardcore fans. I know it's easy to think TL is something that every fan is into and reads daily, but this is not the case. I know I was a massive BW fan but never found TL until 2008-2009. Before that time I knew of ONE BW player, Boxer. Sure there was the Bisu's and the Flash's but I was a casual fan so I had never heard of/seen them.
Now MLG definitely helped, but from my understanding he did not even want to go to MLG until his teammates pressured the hell out of him.
All the good players and very hardcore fans know Kiwi and know what he is capable of, but he remains (up until MLG) largely unknown to the casual fan. I KNEW Kiwi would do great and I was sure he would make Top 4, but even the MLG polls showed that no one really knew him. On the "who will win, HuK or Kiwi?" vote they had Kiwikaki only had like 14% of the votes where HuK was ahead by a landslide.
I know Kiwi, I know what he's capable of, but it doesn't matter unless the casual fan has been exposed to him. As much as it pains me to say this every time, as far as viewer base goes, casual fans always outnumber the hardcore fans.
I hope this helps clear this up, and I love your daily shows !
wow, I dunno how I missed this but just saw my first ep, #20, and it was really enjoyable. I like that it's short and provides the links etc. Great job!
Today is a long review of day 1 of mlg, the patch notes and day 1 of gsl. now, i wish i had some video to show you for mlg while i read through some of the results but the non-hd cast was unwatchable in full screen. maybe i'll just make a habit out of getting the hd stream for every major event for the sake of the review shows.
when i'm a billionaire from this stuff, i'm going to look back at my penny pinching and laugh! :p :[

Fair enough!
It's easy to fall into the trap of being in a TL bubble and I guess I did. Thanks for the clarification

No problem. I really think Kiwikaki is one of the best players in the world so that's why I'm so harsh on him. I really want people to see him and learn what he's about.

I don't see the point when you analyise upcoming matches. Basically you go through all players and say "I know this one, I don't know that one, this game should be awesome, could go both ways." imo it doesn't fit into a news emission and it's not like you can provide any meaningful analysis - some players will play on some maps in the near future... and that's it. I don't think that it worth doing it mostly because usually there's next to nothing to say. If anything, this time should be spent on games that have already been played.
I wrote this after watching this episode but I've seen it before as well.
I enjoyed the latest episode, but I feel it was a bit too opinion-based for a journalistic piece. Understandably, the topics you talked about in this one are pretty controversial.

there have been several days with not a whole lot going on. that's all.
i'm still going to keep them going for as long/as frequent as possible. also, i didn't put anything out today because i have another observer - that is, another hour+ of content - ready pretty soon.
Mmmmm. I had no internet connection for a few days and felt behind on SC news. 20-30 minutes with SC Center and I'm all caught up lol. Love having this show around, it's great since I don't have time to watch/follow everything and play as much as I'd like.

Keep up the good work Chobopeon! Really liking the regular high quality updates. Are you going to keep the focus on tournament results or are you planning on branching out with other features as well?
I really like your project here chobopeon. I'll give a little personal criticism though. I think you need to talk with less.. saliva if you know what I mean? Try to work on your voice. Maybe watch cnn or something for inspiration on how to improve your voice.
I fucking love this show! Especially when you cover the smaller tourneys, I always miss the Go4Sc2 and Zotac results and it's good to keep tabs on who's doing well, GSL is good but don't forget about all the other stuff that's going on
I think it would be cool to have interviews with players that you are talking about anyway, for example interviewing HuK after he has won a tournament or something.
Oh and thanks for this awesome show, really helps me with keeping up with everything going on.
i am uncertain if anyone else is experiencing this, but since i usually watch your vods on blip.tv i am getting really annoyed lately. I hope you can change something about this: Several of the latest episodes on your blip.tv archive are published as quicktime movies. And watching those quicktime movies just totally kills me. First, it shoots my cpu to 100% and everything dies. The video skips around and only sound works properly. I lose any control of my browser, just nothing reacts anymore. And secondly, the quicktime player plugin doesnt have a fullscreen button (i think). So if possible, i'd very much like to see those episodes on blip.tv as flash movies instead of quicktime movies. Cause quicktime blows. :D

that sucks. blip occasionally has trouble with the conversion from .mp4 to .flv - ill do my best to fix it up

+1. Please, don't use QuickTime, it's soooo bad.
I'm not trying to, it's blip.tv messing up. :[ I'm doing my best to get future episodes in good formats.
You are right about the NFL allowing people into practices, I've been to several off-season practices and it's only for fans and media. They practice very simple plays for the most part; Like throwing the ball to everyone to make sure they get a touch. I'm not sure about other sports, but Other teams are very rarely allowed unless they are practicing with them and taping is not allowed. I was asked to put my camera in my car each time I watched practices.
Just my $.02 -- a shorter video with tighter editing/copy or faster pacing or less time spent on editorial might work better both for your time and for building an audience.
Once again, just do whatever you like, but those early vids of 5/6 minutes were a better fit for me personally, at least. What I loved was that it felt like SportsCenter.
You're totally right about pro sports & training sessions, but I don't think you need to spend half the show explaining this to ignorant forum posters. If someone can't see that making people's build orders public is practically identical to publishing a play by play analysis of all of a teams training sessions (something that obviously doesn't happen in any sport) then they don't really deserve the time of day on your awesome show in my opinion.
It might be just me but I really dislike the huge discussion bits. Less than 5 minutes of GSL coverage, 10 minutes replying to forum posts... Obviously, I am just one viewer and you have to do what you want to do and whether you are trying to please as many viewers as possible or not - but I'm tuning in to watch the "5-10 minute show wrapping up major tournaments and highlighting a match or two", not something else.
Hope you don't mind my feedback - as I already wrote, this could be just me. Also, a show focusing on discussions could be interesting as well and DJ Wheat and Chill don't have to be the only ones who do something like this.
P.S. I'm a bit too late but that's thanks to Blip.tv's slow RSS updates.
Great work choboPEon. I also like the fact that you added the SC bible to your RSS feed. It showed up on my iPod one day and I thought aww, a nice little nugget of gold for me listening!
SC Center is a daily series discussing all the latest happenings in the Starcraft 2 scene. Expand the description to find links to content mentioned in the video.
Great episode, I just went through and listened to all of them to catch up. Between work and my playing I don't have time to keep track of this stuff so this is very helpful, catching up on what is the happs in the SC community. I appreciate the dedication to do something daily like this, let alone all the research.

I absolutely adore these 5-15 minute segments of everything I need to know of what's been happening and what's to come in the StarCraft 2 community without searching through countless posts.
Looking at Chobopeon observable part of his room triggers my OCD in wanting to tidy/organise that room, but besides that there doesn't seem to be any major glaring issue as to what could be added.
Only thing that I could suggest is to set up this thread akin to the State of the Game one with banners and a nice organised formatted abstract of the show.

glad to see chobopeopn and JP work together this is awesome with all the constant tournaments(impossible to keep up) thanks for the info that Joe(Danish player) won Go4sc2#78, glad to see a danish player winning something ^___^

Also might I suggest you go watch some sportsnews and copy paste the way they transition from one thing to another.
If you talk about a team league game or just a finals of some tournament you'll have the results ready in text on the side somewhere looking sort of like this.

LOL this was months ago but I just found this post. I pretty much died laughing. And no, I didn't GG. I don't say anything in my games usually, unless someone six pools me while saying a bunch of random shit and I win, then I call them a faggot.
If you could get permission from some of these leagues to show "highlight" snippets and mabye find some volunteers to chop them up for you, I think that would be pretty awesome, and also in the way of your namesake. You probly won't get gsl but you could probly get like gcpl or some of the other tournaments that know how dependant they are on the tl fanbase.
also if you do like this idea, I would volunteer to chop up video for you guys.
awesome stuff, I always make sure to watch this everyday. With so many tournaments and happenings in the SC2 world, a daily recap show like this is needed. I love the increase in production value. SC2 coverage definitely could use more production value, and tournaments and shows like SC Center are definitely doing that. Keep it up!
A bit behind the times here, but wanted to say that it's great to have sc center back, and with jp too! An excellent combination and a very useful show since I can't keep track of all the happenings myself. Thanks a lot guys!
First time viewer, I like it, keep it up. I think more people will stop by as it gets more recognition. I'll watch it while eating some cereal before running out the door for work each morning

It would make things a bit easier to follow imo. Just a suggestion I think could help.
Good show though, I like that you two have your own segments and you cover basically everything of importance, keep it up!
I second this, especially on the results. It's a lot of work to do daily, so if it's not feasible, what I think you could do is use the youtube annotations to link to whatever it is you're discussing. It's a really easy way provide reference without having to make a bunch of graphics or anything.
Just from a show standpoint, slower transitions from topic to topic would help too. Just slowing down like 5% in general would really help the show in general, because there are a couple times where it sounds like you guys are running against a clock.
Still! It's an excellent show and a nice way to recap the previous day Content wise you guys are spot-on.

We are running against a clock -- we have 15 minutes (otherwise it'll get split up into two videos).
Ah, true true I just think that an extra half second to provide a verbal transition from topic to topic would help with the news flow, but if it would interfere with your limits, then never mind :D
Great show as always guys! By the way, aside from being an accomplished 1v1 player, Empire.Aristeo is one half of the most successful 2v2 team in Europe together with Empire.Cubert.
I love this show so much, please keep it up JP / CP >_<!!
I watch this in place of the regular news with the morning cup of coffee and it is the perfect way to wake up.
JP I think if you throw in a few exclusive announcements in before or after the MLG events that would be utterly awesome. Also a live SCC during an MLG event will do wonders to promote SCC to all attending and following online.
Cool show you guys got there. Since I can't follow every little tournament anymore I really enjoy watching the news summarized in your show.
The only criticism I got is the camera position for chobopeon. I would like to see it changed so that we don't see a reflection of the monitor in his glasses.

Great again. This is definitely one of the best productions out today along with SotG. Both are can't miss in my book. Especially since I can play both in the background while doing other stuff. Thanks for the content gentlemen

I agree, love both of them. JP really is at the forefront of production when it comes to his shows, no doubt due to a lot of work behind the scenes. I really didn't think this show would last as the tedium of doing some thing like this daily must be pretty high. So happy to have it to listen to.
also thanks to chobopeon as I am sure he works quite a bit on this as well.
Great job on the show guys, it's getting better and better all the time. I'm frankly a lil surprised by the fact it's only getting a few hundred views every time it goes out.. seems like something that pretty much everyone on these forums would really like. I hope you keep going long enough for the show's popularity to snowball as it surely will :D
My mic is not on my head, I use a standalone mic, not my headset. The problem is that the sound levels are not even. I'll try to remind JP to check 'em out tomorrow.
Still loving the shows, and just subscribed on the new youtube account. I was wondering why you made the account switch if that is something you can share. Thanks,
JP. Now that you have shed your WoW account. You need to train in secret using a massive month long Rocky Montage. At the end, you will emerge as the highest ranked player on the SotG cast. You shall then overrule all other opinions and when they protest, follow up with a subtle "Well if you played at my level you would know....."
Great show guys. With there being so many tournaments nowadays it's so hard to keep track of them all so it's great for that you guys sum it all up in a short video. I find myself watching even when I've already seen the previous day's matches just to see what you guys had to say about it. It's too bad the show doesn't have that many regular viewers but keep up the good work *thumbup*
It doesn't seem this show gets nearly the publicity it deserves. It's a great show especially for me since I work weekends a lot and don't get a chance to watch all the tourneys and such.
Really is a great show and a great way to keep up to date with big tournaments and results, it deserves more viewers! Thanks JP and Chobopeon for putting in the time and effort to make the show.
Thanks for all the work that you guys do to put on this show every day. It's the best and really only summary of starcraft events out there. Keep it up and know that you have dedicated fans.
Great show. Really needs highlights of the games/casts though (more of a Sports Center feel, where they have highlight reels of the previous night). This feels more like 15 minutes of just talking about the results... it'd be sick to see how those results happened, and cut down on having to watch hours of videos for those who only have 15 minutes to watch SC2 VODs. :D
Chobopeon is a hero. Great job keeping me up to date every day on tournaments and general fun stuff. I didn't know about the korean reactions to dreamhack b4 i watched 50.
really do love this show, it is kind of like a mini state of the game =D been watching since SC review episode 1, so good =D. Really informational with just the right amount of humor.
Great idea showing some highlight footage from TSL on today's center!
Being a results/news show is great, but expanding this to become sort of a NFL Primetime/Match of the Day/Sportschau kind of deal, with games summarised while footage is shown and key plays highlighted... man, this could take this whole thing to another level. The show to watch for people who don't have time to follow all the content out there. Which with all the tournaments going on right now would be... everyone.
Love the show! Such informative information in 15 minutes. If I don't have time to keep up with everything SC2 related this show is awesome in catching me up to date on things.
Great show! With more and more tournaments this will be the "sportscast" like for us canadian folk, sportsnet connected or TSN etc. Keep up the great work. Be patient with the amount of viewers you have, when you review it, they will come.
I noticed JP restreamed SC Center after SotG. Have you guys considered piggybacking a restream on other broadcasts? E.g. having Day[9] play it at 6:40 Pacific just before his daily, or as an intermission to the gargantuan NASL casts. Seems like a good way to get exposure.
well it's been up for like 10 hours, i sometimes update the thread late.
show happens live every day 5pm cst/6pm est at itmejp.com. the VOD is out about an hour later at youtube.com/itmejp. generally jp and i will post about it on twitter as soon as its out.
Pretty nice show, but it's a bit long for a summary in my opinion. I mean, I'd rather just read 4-5 threads and get all the same information in 5 minutes over listen for 15+ minutes. Obviously you know what format is best for your purposes, but personally I'd like a shorter, more concise version.

I was not complaining about you uploading the video late, just saying that it's a bit late to watch it live ^^. But there is nothing you can do against timezones , and midnight is not that bad. Maybe I should try to watch it the morning before going to work ,it's a nice way to start the day .

there is no real explanation. jp found it funny, is a vampire and a creeper.
This show does not get nearly enough love. I love the show and although I am unable to tune in live at the moment because my college has shitty internet, I make sure to watch the youtube clip every day! I hope you guys keep up the great work.

Go to this link http://www.video2mp3.net/ then paste url of youtube video in the window on the page. Click convert and it converts for you very quickly.
Good show, but with all of the content now available for SC2, I feel like this show would be better in the weekly format, or possibly bi-weekly. It's just so hard to keep up with the show every day. I do like the show though, just a tip as to possibly getting higher viewer counts per video. Keep up the good work.
I have watched every single one of your sc centers. The viewership is slowly and steadily growing! I hope more people tune in to watch these. And patrick play my damn playlist next time! http://hypem.com/#!/Ruyguy88
Great show guys, really love all the work you guys put into this. Gives me something to really look forward too every game, and even though i watch most of the SC content out there it is really nice to get other people perspective on the games ect. Also it helps me procrastinate which i find is really good =P

I agree with you but why would it need to be longer? Also, he probably has a lot of views on blip.tv that we can't see...
Thanks a lot for this show Patrick and JP. It airs at 2400 for me which is a perfect time. At the breakdown of the day, I usually do a tiny midnight meal so I eat that while watching (no fatty) . So I catch the show quite frequently. It's well done, the information is packed. Almost every time there is at least one thing I had not heard about before. Keep rocking, don't tire yourselves out and I know your audience will continue to grow, it's just a matter of time believe it!

since i keep getting this question (and try to keep answering it!): i dont know. im in the dark, frankly, and mlg tv (sundance, jp, etc) is in the driver's seat at the moment and they're not speaking to me about it at all. if, in the future, they do nothing with it, i could see myself bringing it back. at present, i am occupied with a couple of other projects but sc center is close to my heart and i dont particularly want it to die a silent death like this.
thanks for asking though, it's awesome to see that people care about the show.
Hope it is gonna come back - always watched the VOD's - becuase it was send 12PM in DK. Hope that you can find some time to do the show, it really helped me keep up with everything.
I am still regularly asked about the future of SC Center. I take it as a compliment. It is obvious that you guys really dug the show. Here’s the situation as it stands right now.
I’m working my way towards a full-time job in e-sports. Since it was brought up on Slasher’s show last night (which you can catch daily at MLG.tv at 5 pm EST), I think this is something that I’m going to talk about. You should keep in mind that nothing is set in stone but that things are looking good on this front.
If I am able to do e-sports full time, one higher priority item is bringing back SC Center. I’d be working in the perfect environment in which a show like SCC could thrive. I think it has potential to be the best iteration of the show yet by far.
Let’s talk about the show and see how I can make it better. Off the top of my head, I have two quick ideas.
I want to include you guys more. I want to discuss tweets, forum posts and chat logs as the show happens. I want to encourage a conversation in addition to the news. It won’t be long and drawn out (brevity is part of the brilliance of the show) but one or two comments from fans on a news piece can really add a dimension to the show.
I’d like to work on including others in the show. Something as simple as a quick video interview to get input on a news story can add yet another key dimension that we lacked.
The focal point of the show will still be the news, hard and fast, a quick shot to get you updated on everything happening in the scene. We can give it a new paint job but the engine remains the same.
Let me know what you think about SC Center’s future. All ideas are welcome. I need you to be ambitious. Tweet me (@chobopeon) or post in the TL thread. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Again, there are no guarantees on any of these fronts but things look good. The triumphant return of SC Center is not imminent (we’re not launching tomorrow or the next day nor do I have any specific day in my head) but is looking more likely than it has in a long time. If everything goes as hoped and SCC does return, I’d like to hit the ground running. Help me out.
Trivia: There have been 74 episodes of SC Center, 32 with me as the solo host and 42 with JP McDaniel as the co-host. The first episode aired August 8, 2010 (over a year ago, wow) and the last episode aired July 4, 2011.
Always enjoyed catching the show. It would be a cool idea to have some fan interaction like you mentioned. Only hard thing is I always watched the vod because the live cast wasn't at a good time for me.
Cheers to you though. Hope you bring it back and it works well. Also cheers to full-time esports job. Keep it up son.
Sounds good chobopeon, I really liked SC Center a lot. I do like the idea of interviews and some added perspectives, but I think an important element of the show is it really does need to be a condensed digest of all the SC2 news, so in my eyes it shouldn't really run for longer than 15 or 20 minutes which can start becoming very challenging when you want to give it more depth.
haven't really spoken with jp in a while, don't know what he's up to. it's that i want to do it again and so i am taking the initiative and makin' it happen.
This is absolutely awesome news! So happy to see SC Center back :D
- For those interested JP said on his ForumSpring question and answer videos that he's put up on youtube that if he was going to do SC Center again he wanted some big increases in production quality which would involve having to hire someone specifically to do graphical work for it for like 4-5 hours a day... and currently MLG as an organizstion isn't willing to do that. Hence no JP.
now that we're working at mlg.tv, we'll be on at 5pm est every day and the vods should be up shortly on mlg tv thereafter. you can also check chobopeon.com and i'll put the vods up there as they are ready to go.
every day, 5pm ET. we're working to improve a bunch. this means more highlights and more in depth talk about every game. we're starting that improvement today, so check it out here shortly!
latest updates: Check out all the SC Report episodes right here.
New show is great, one complaint though: While showing highlights the overlay covers up the minimap, this is really annoying. With highlights especially you need to know what the current game state looks like otherwise you're just seeing units fighting each other with no context.

Great news.
Also your voice sounds way better with the MLG equipment. Your old mic was pretty annoying on the old show but now you guys both sound fantastic.
Some folks have mentioned that 5pm ET is tough/impossible for Americans to watch. What do you guys think?
I ask because I know it's probably true to some extent and it kills me! But, at the same time, this is a show produced in a studio and so it's tough to get an entire crew to stay to film 'late'. It's tough for me personally! I'd still like to gauge opinion. Is it that big a deal?
I'd also say that obviously it wouldn't be that huge of an issue if we could get the VODs up quickly. We're trying, it's tough. But in the mean time, we're operating on the assumption that VODs will be out the following morning ET.
Since the USA must be a large audience and watching it during it's first air and on the related day are very important things. Couldn't it be an option to just pre-record the show and run the "VOD" through the stream? It would allow the crew to maintain working hours. The viewers to watch it when the time suits them. Possibly increase the speed VOD is up and allow for a bit of post production should that ever be desired. I guess the question here is more so if it's technically feasible. Because I don't think it matters at all for the viewer if you would pre-record and delay the broadcast by a couple of hours. Hell you could already be doing it! Who knows 0o ;p
And for the naming contest I would like to submit: 'SC Center'.or 'The SC Center'. The old name It has a nice ring to it. I don't know what a different name can improve.
Edit: Disregard the above. I thought there wouldn't be much interaction but there is so then it can't work without taking away viewer interaction which is probably something very enjoyable for the live viewer.

well, i think that rerunning the vod at good times on the stream is our best bet. i hope to be able to do that soon.
It's even worse for the west coast - 2pm weekdays is simply terrible for any StarCraft programming. While SC Center should remain on the MLG_live channel, VODs reruns are the way to go. I think taking cues from its ESPN counterpart is worthwhile here, use the reruns to fill dead air time, whether it's after fuck slash or sotg.

totally. i wish we could get vods up really quick but ill definitely push to have reruns up asap.
I love the show, but you guys really need to get the video's going on in the background sorted. You talk about an amazing game, and then it cuts to a clip of Leenock injecting with his queens. Other than that, its really awesome!

haha yeah, i completely agree. it's tough but we're working on it, i promise. thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it.

no mp3 version right now, hopefully we'll get that out after providence
So, how are the plans for mp3 versions? =) Because I don't really have the time to watch them at home, but would really enjoy it on my work to work etc.
The few times I've seen this show, I've desperately wanted some kind of banter/reaction from chobo and JP, like PTI or the other many sports shows on ESPN. Simply running down the news with no reactions at all just doesn't do it for me. Maybe that works for other people, but I don't think it fills a void in a community where literally everyone has trained themselves to know where to look for the previous day's results.

definitely. we're looking to do that right now. we've just finally sort of gotten down how to get the correct highlights in the correct place on the correct day. harder than you might think! we're going to move toward a PTI format, keeping the highlights but adding some banter in place of extraneous explanation.
