Come to think of it ..kinda ..I'm just probably nervous and the blood from my hands rushes to my brain or something like that .

The feeling I get when it does work is the reason I play. It's amazing.

1) As cheesey & corny as it sounds, I have a pair of USB-heated fingerless gloves. The drawbacks here are needing two open USB ports, and losing a little bit of pride. 2) A metal thermos full of boiling hot water. Wrap your hands around it every now and then. Feels great.

Maybe you're getting a cold sweat. Are you nervous when you play? Try to stay calm.

If you watch "hyun joong - becomes a progamer" series, Shark (MBCgame) gave heating packs to HJ as a gift so that his hands wouldnt get cold, because HJ was always nervous before any games. So maybe heating pads are the answer to this problem

When I was young I used to take my games seriously and get a lot of stress reactions when trying to play in a game that I really wanted to win. This obviously hurt more than it helped. That kind of stress reaction may work for real life situations but for gaming it's bad since you have to maintain fine motor control. My suggestion would be to make sure you have good posture while sitting and typing. Take breaks often away from the computer. Exercise regularly and eat right of course. Try to take your games less seriously. Focus on the play not the results or the people.

I also suffer from "Halo Tourrette's," where during multiplayer I shout out very bizarre curses without even realizing it - much to the consternation of those around me.

Pre-game I usually rub my hands together and do the blow on them to loosen up my hands. It's not so much that I get nervous and they shiver; my hands just feel stiff unless I warm them up. I also drink a lot of tea which is pretty warming.

If your arms/wrists hits the edge of your desk you could be slowing blood flow too. Get some gel wrist pads and see if its any better. Make sure you move your body and arms around a bit to keep your blood flow good. Also try sitting on a cushion so not to stop blood flow as much. Also you might be about to have a heart attack be careful :O

The funniest thing that happened so far was a couple weeks ago when I played BW with some friends, in the like 3rd or 4th game I suddenly noticed that my right arm had fallen asleep. I was still playing with my hand, but I couldn't really use my arms. Weeeird feeling :s

House temperature or bad circulation aren't really the issue, although people suggesting exercise are correct--Not because of circulation, but in that exercise helps a lot with anxiety in general. Don't worry about it much though! It doesn't mean you have crazy problems, your symptoms are definitely not unusual, it just means you're working yourself up a bit over the game. If you try to be more relaxed about playing, or get regular exercise, it should help. =)

When I first started playing the beta, had been years since I played the first starcraft, it happened to me a lot! Now though I guess I'm more comfortable playing the game. Sure I still get nerves occasionally but no where near the nerves when I first started. First ever game, first placement match, first league match, etc. It also didn't help that I hyped myself up before getting in the beta by watching streams and casts none stop either. Finally getting to play was like, omg I hope I don't get crushed! ^.^

Keep your wrists elevated off of the mousepad and keyboard tray in a neutral position. This enhances blood flow. I learned proper wrist positioning when I took professional piano lessons.

My keyboard is just off the edge of the desk and I use my palm on the edge of desk//keyboard and my wrist stays in the air, same with the mouse.

Do not use a wrist rest unless you have a medical condition that makes your muscles weak. If you are in good health, you should be able to keep your hands and wrists in proper position for many hours. The following quote is from http://www.netsci.org/Science/Special/feature01.html 8)Q. Can a wrist pad sitting in front of the keyboard be used during keyboarding? A. The neutral position described in #7 can not be achieved while in contact with most commercial wrist pads. For this reason keyboarding is best performed from a "floating" wrist position. Thus contact with wristpads is best between bouts of keying only. Frequent rest, away from the keyboard, becomes necessary with floating wrists because it tends to emphasize shoulder muscle contraction. Don't forget to use the lightest possible finger pressure during keying. As previous posters have noted, it is also a good idea to move them around in different positions between games as well as moving your arms and entire body.

Right now, I just came back from an epic win, and I realized my hands were freezing. As I type this, however, they're already warming up like heck. Dang, they're really, really warm now. Results within minutes haha

The two branches of the ANS are sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest). In the environment we evolved in, using your fingers and fine motor skills were not required in these scary situations, we either had to run away or fight. The release of noradrenaline, causes opening of the airways, increased heart rate and increased core body temperature (which leads to sweating), the shivering is your body trying to increase its temperature. Blood vessels constrict (for the most part) directing blood away from your gut and liver and towards your big muscle groups, the side effect of this is the relatively small blood vessels supplying your hands and feet get reduced blood flow, the heat that was in them dissipates with the excess sweat and they go cold and less responsive. Some people are much better conditioned to function in the fight or flight mode, either genetically or through learning and thus don't experience quite as cold extremities. Likewise, those who are prone to anxiety get it much worse. The best solution is to warm your environment and your hands, which triggers vasodilation allowing the blood back in. Edit - didn't even realise how old this was! Whoops
