One friend-invite was fine... but now it seems like people will get three or four keys when others get none. FML.

I agree, what is the point of this another wave of fucking friend invites when people who are in now have like 5 keys while opt ins are left out

This, a thousand times this! I'm never getting a key at this rate :@

I broke down and bought a friend invite for $50 a week ago, and today I got a friend code in my inbox! Nice surprise, as I've got a friend who is dying to get in.

There's a conflict of interest going on here. Players would like the SC2 beta key distribution to be focused towards getting the most players in as possible, as quickly as possible, to increase their own chances. Blizzard wants people who will make good beta testers. I can see how top-level players would make better beta testers than people in the lower leagues (copper, bronze) for instance. If highly skilled players are more likely to have other highly skilled friends waiting for an invite, then Blizzard can get better beta testers through the invite a friend method than by randomly selecting opt-ins.

As a mac user, I'll never be able to get into the beta anyway ¬¬

I would just like to point out to the people who complain about WoW players getting in and not SC players:

I played SC since BW was released, although never competitively, played quite a bit of matchmaking in WCIII and TFT, played and finished Diablo II. Out of all of them I have always like SC the best (followed by WCIII), and I have literally been following StarCraft II and lurking about various forums for years like many other people before it was ever announced. However, all of those games were my brothers and are hiding out somewhere in storage at our parents' house so neither of us can find them or use the keys. I happen to own WoW, although I've never gotten past level 38 in the game so I am by no means a "WoW player" but that is the only key out of all of the games that I have attached to my B.net account.

To make a long story short, I think I deserve a chance to get a key too, although I'm certain my situation is quite unique. Of course there are many WoW players who couldn't care less about SC, but don't generalize!

Speaking of this though, I really do wonder if the chances of getting a key are better if you have more games attached to your account. My WoW account hasn't even been active in over a year at least, probably longer. I've actually been considering buying either the SC or WCIII Battlechest lately to maybe help my chances. I'd probably get the WCIII one since SC2 is so close to release, it'd be pointless to buy the original.

I played every blizzard game since Starcraft hardcore for years each and some I never stopped playing. Starcraft & BW since start, WC3 since start and TFT, WoW since launch for 2 years non-stop everyday.

In terms of numbers of Blizzard titles i've bought the number is far far higher then you could imagine. I bought Starcraft & BW for myself and 2 friends, WC3 & TFT I bought 3 times for myself because I kept losing the keys after formatting my pc and I bought an extra 5 copies of TFT and gave them away in competitions in the early days for TFT to promote its adoption amoung my clan and friends.
WoW I paid for 2 accounts, player transfers etc.
Considering ppl who don't even have SC in there battle.net account are getting in are getting in it's a kick in the teeth but what can you do other then be sad. Annoyingly i'll have to buy 3 copies of SC2 1 for me for Europe 1 for US and 1 for my nephew.

And yet I don't get in beta while I have so much free time being jobless and bored all day

It sucks, but it's not like Blizzard knows that about you. :/

And it's also pretty unfair to invite people based on how many games they have on their accounts; it's not about "loyalty", they want a wide variety of testers and system set ups to test their games. If all they invited were die-hard Blizzard loyalists, they would get biased feedback!

Agree with that. If they only invited StarCraft players or Blizzard fanboys, it will be biased. They are trying to create a game that will cater to outsiders as well.

Yeh they can't know but the friends invites kind of means they stopped caring about pc specs anymore as the invites can go to anyone which is why it'd be nice if they gave priority to ppl with sc & wc3 in there accounts so they know they are into rts's at least.

Worrying about the low end players isn't that important as they will have the challenges and casual leagues and ranks to help with that problem imo.

Can understand there reasoning but man it sucks for us watching streams everyday

As much as I dislike the friend invites (mainly because I don't have any friends that are in the beta), it seems to be working better than the first couple rounds of opt-ins. I am all for the opt-in of people that actually have starcraft on their battle net accounts.

I wonder if they will ever just invite the opt-ins again, I want my key.... Seems like they were saying something a while ago that you could still opt-in and have a chance at getting into the beta, maybe they changed their minds and wanted to have people invite friends for testing out the social networking aspects of battlent?

I feel retarded for not posting this sooner, but Pape is the fucking man. Gives a beta key to someone he's never met on the internet, just trusts that I am deserving. I cannot ever thank you enough.

Although you probably did cause me to fail that calculus test I had today, I got the key at around 1AM last night...and well, lets just say there wasn't a lot of studying going on after that.

Cheers!
