I personally find BW has gotten incredibly boring within the past year or two, very little variety, heavy economy play wins out 95% of the time unless you cheese it now. I only watch pro games now when they are like finals, even then I found Flash vs Movie boring as heck, really any game with flash I find boring as hell. The only games that even excite me at all these days are when up and coming players do unique things other than cookie cutter builds everygame.

Foreigner games are 100% more exciting than progames in SC right now, because they know that the opponent they are going against aren't so robotic that they can experiment and get away with things that wouldnt work vs turtling macro players like Flash. You can call people like Flash and jaedong "masters", but it doesnt make exciting games.

(When watching replays from TL.net, any replay that goes past 40 minutes I dont bother watching, why should I sit there and watch them take the whole map without any microing/harassment , only to have one big attack at the end with 30 ultras to end it. SNORE!)

SC2 wont have that happen, harassment is going to be HUGE in SC2, with things like warping, reapers/cliff climbing, those macro mechanics to boost timing pushes.. Its going to be so intense, no boring 50 minute snorefests. Micro and Macro will be 50% each, which is so important on making a better game than BW, because that gives players style, theres no style anymore in BW.

Why do you think so?
I'm quiet shure that competitive SC will last at least 2-4 more years. And there will always be amatuer SC even in 20 years (they still play doom 1 today on a high level)!

And if SC2 will be so lame as you propose (and I don't think so) there will be a split like in CS1.6/CSS with professional and "elite" players staying with 1.6 until the end of time while the (greater) "casual" crowd enjoys CSS.

The split occured because CSS is a crap competitive game. Also CS 1.6 still enjoys a bigger casual following from what I can tell.

SC2 is going to be far from crap, so it's likely it's going to kill BW as we know it.

Why would harassment be huge in SC2? In SC2 you probably won't be distracted enough to not focus on defending harassment 100% and worker saturation is going to be much lower so you don't need as many workers because of the pathfinding.

I don't know if someone said it already but this is what Avarius said on the battlenet forums:

For everyone asking, we are targeting a global release for the start of the beta.

Does this mean that European players will get in from the start?

Whether or not SC2 is going to kill SC only time will tell.

As it happened with WarCraft III you can expect SC2 to deliver a massive hit to SCBW community, whenever it comes out in the western world. Korea won't be affected for years, as it's a billion dollar industry and nobody would be willing to give up a paycheck, while gamers simply won't be able to find time for it in their 10hr/day training sessions and appearances and such.

Whether SC2 is good or not, whether it's a worthy successor or not, players will stick with it throughout beta and first year after release, maybe longer. If it turns out like CSS and early War3 players will be coming back, in parts, if SC2 turns out to be decent-enough nobody is going to bother bringing BW back making SC2 release date - SCBW's time of death.

Korea will probably undergo a lengthy transition lasting 2+ years while they will be figuring out the rights, leagues, broadcasts and all the rest of it. Obviously it may happen faster in case a regular Korean consumer switches to SC2, leading to a ratings drop for SCBW broadcasts and an overall decline in popularity.

The transition to SC2 for broadcasting won't come cheap either, as the game will be supporting HD resolutions the broadcasters will have to follow with HDTV broadcasts and dramatically increasing streaming costs. While 600k heavily-encoded (or 2mbit mpeg2) stream is more than enough to broadcast SCBW on TV/internet "640-480, a full 1080p(i) will be required to broadcast SC2 in all it's glory, which will require 4-5x times the bandwidth.

Yeah I agree somewhat. When it's just 2 players macroing to 200/200 and clashing into eachother repeatedly for 40 minutes straight, it gets very stupid and boring. But on the flip side games with only tiny armies of tier 1 and units are very boring as well. I think the 15-20 minute action packed games and a solid mix of tech units are the most interesting to watch and play.

Still, this is pretty exciting news. So probably the absolute latest the game will actually come out will be a year from now. I can definitely see them doing a 10-12 month beta for this.

I have to agree with this statement. It will be hard to predict exactly what happens, but a big initial hit is to be expected.

I remember reading an interview with some (ex-)programers somewhere (don't remember which) where they talked about SC2 bringing new opportunities. Mechanics are a big part of SC:BW, there is not as much room for novel BO's as in the early stages of the game.
A lot of the innovative progamers from before, who get outplayed by the new ones with better mechanics, might see this as an opportunity for a comeback.

EDIT: FTM I don't even care that I don't have a beta key. Just show me a LOT of new gameplay footage! LOL'ed at the porn reference though

I just like to remind EVERYONE with a beta key. So long as blizzard does not force u to sign a NDA its your DUTY to stream for the rest of us

I just hope that my friends are cool enough to SHARE a bit :D
Btw, anyone knows if sharing one CD-key is forbidden ? That sounds ridiculous, but so does Blizzard sometimes.

You won't be able to play at the same time with the same key but most likely they aren't going to monitor IPs so you can share the same key with your friends.
