To me it seems like day9 is trying to make himself appeal more to the lower level sc2 community (kinda like husky and hd did in the past) to gain more viewers, his youtube channel is labelled "startcraft 2 and skyrim".. really skyrim? skyrim isn't even an online game man.. skyrim isn't esports.. seems like your using your popularity to gain more viewers from different games, its no longer about sc2 or esports its about how many viewers you get.
I know this sounds like a rant, but I have been following day9 since sc2 beta and I just don't like the way hes going with things, every time I watch him playing other games in his daily I just alt+f4, maybe he lost his passion for sc2, I don't know.. at least try another competitive game like dota2 or something instead of single player games.
Either way, I'm always a fan. He's trying to expand his business to make more money, you ungrateful dipshit. Day9 doesn't have to continue to make videos that ONLY appeal to a very niche market; by including other games in his daily he will draw in more viewers from different games, and more viewers = more money. This is not some hobby that Day9 does to satisfy the hardcore fans; this is his life, his full-time occupation. The daily is no longer something that runs alongside Day9's education - this is his life, it pays the bills. Christ some people are SOOOOO fucking ungrateful.
This is pretty unjustly said as well. He's trying to expand his business (eSports) because he loves it! Make no mistake, his business goal is not to make as much money as he can. He has always been the first to say it is for the growth of eSports. -What helps eSports grow? Well introducing people to Starcraft. -How do you introduce more people to Starcraft? Well if I were a person of Day[9]'s stature, the first place i would branch out to were other gaming communitys. -Oh you mean like Amnesia fans/Skyrimfans? Oh what a splendid idea!
One of the most disturbing parts of your post is saying "This is not some hobby that Day[9]..." This is so far off basis it hurts. This IS some hobby that Day[9] does. Only he has the courage to do it with everything he has, passionately. If this were just an occupation, he would of done things like charging for the daily when he got out of school, streaming SC2 games for ad revenue, and producing other content for profit. But he doesn't, because he wants as many people as possible to fall in love with what he loves~ Starcraft.
Anyhow, Since I have never posted in this thread I don't believe.... Day[9] your a big inspiration to me in more ways the one. You're not only a figure of the SC2 community to look up to, but a great role model for me in my real, everyday life. Thank you for everything you do for us. Big <3 for you my friend.

You realize Day[9] has a masters degree and job marketability for ages right? He could pretty much walk into a 6 figure job if he just "wanted money from a full-time occupation." He does work for the SC2 community full-time because that is his hobby. Tournament's and fan donations keep him afloat. Not profit from a product he produces.

a very long time ago he made an appeal to the community to support his hobby by donating to him, and some of us did donate, I'm a student who has bills to pay but I donated what I could because I love the guy, we donated to him so he could keep doing what he did, however he chose to go to a different direction. The sc2 community supported him from the start, If day9 doesn't feel like sc2 is for him anymore, then he should come out and say it instead of bringing his fan base with him into games they are not interested in.
I became a fan of day9 because of starcraft2, not the other way around.

How, and when, did he decide to go in a different direction? He's producing as much content as ever for the SC2 community, and will so in 2012. He'll also continue casting at all of the events. Did he EVER in place of a daily play those games? NOPE! He played after/around them. Know what I did~ I didn't watch. Yet I still got to watch dailies all the time. You are being super dramatic over nothing here bud.

So because he's a figure in the SC2 community, he's not allowed to play other games? That logic is impeccable.

he claims he doesn't have time to ladder anymore these days, yet has plenty of time to be playing amnesia and skyrim and streaming them. I think as time passes it will be apparent to everyone that there will be less and less sc2 and more of other games. It just seems to me like he doesn't care for sc2 anymore as he use to, anyways I'm going to go watch daily #100 to make my self feel better, I'm done posting here.

Day9 lost his passion? If what Day9 has now isn't passion for Sc2, then what the hell does the rest of the world have? Cause nobody has more passion than Day9.

Why does he have to ladder...? There's pro players streaming themselves playing other games, and Day[9] is who you choose to be upset with? He's not a player. This is been true for all of SC2, I don't understand why it matters how much he plays the game? Not to mention if you had watched one of his more recently dailies, he said he was looking forward to the holidays so he could "play a bunch of SC2."

On the flipside, instead of looking at the Skyrim stuff as evidence of him "abandoning" SC2, you could look at the Skyrim youtube thing from a completely different perspective; that by doing skyrim videos, and having skyrim on his youtube, he is attracting new players to Starcraft 2 because Skyrim has such a huge playerbase. You can spin it any way you want.
To put it bluntly, people need to chill the fuck out. The man has done NON-STOP starcraft 2 content since the beta arrived over a year ago, and now he publicly spends ~10 days doing something that isn't Starcraft 2 and people accuse him of "losing his passion" and "abandoning SC". Wtf?

What's happening now? Day9 lost his passion for sc2? Is this a troll? Dude here is how you should approach posting something next time: Step 1 - Think Step 2 - Write Day9 lost his passion for sc2... That's funny... you're funny!

Truth.
It's true that Day9 has generally trended towards a 'broader' appeal over time, but that's a good thing for the scene. The Daily has introduced SO many new people to a love and appreciation of Starcraft and eSports in general, myself included. Showing WHY these things are so awesome to a new audience. It's THE driving motivation behind his show.
Personally I like when he streams other games. A better gamer is a well rounded gamer.
On streaming laddering -- I would guess that the mindset needed to do a good Daily and be an engaging and entertaining speaker isn't the same as the mindset he's in when laddering. I know sometimes I want to punch a wall when laddering myself, heh. So he should do whatever he feels like.
I do think the supposed harsh self criticism of his play could be an asset to the show in a way that doesn't hurt the day9-happy-mode he's in when streaming -- just go over oldish replays instead. Perhaps choose the worst and most embarrassing games and be hilariously hard on himself. The Day9 Dummies. I'd watch it.

Either way, I'm always a fan. He's trying to expand his business to make more money, you ungrateful dipshit. Day9 doesn't have to continue to make videos that ONLY appeal to a very niche market; by including other games in his daily he will draw in more viewers from different games, and more viewers = more money. Only he has the courage to do it with everything he has, passionately. Where in my post did I say that Day9 doesn't love what he does? 2. It's not his hobby, it's his full-time occupation...jesus fucking christ You realize Day[9] has a masters degree and job marketability for ages right? He could pretty much walk into a 6 figure job if he just "wanted money from a full-time occupation." He does work for the SC2 community full-time because that is his hobby. Tournament's and fan donations keep him afloat. Not profit from a product he produces. lol at thinking a master's degree creates great job prospects. Okay guys, Superfanboy has always been a huge troll, stop feeding him.
Every single time I see one of his posts he tries to start a shitfest. Check his history

Day[9] also can't help but wrangle with a totally inflated image of his skills in Starcraft 2. Imagine being him and NOT thinking that some huge portion of his viewership would be disappointed if he took up the mouse and keyboard publicly for everyone's derision on-stream. It's pretty difficult.
It's not really his role anymore to say "Oh, look how good I am at the game and learn from me by watching me play" because he simply doesn't dedicate the time he used to into playing. It's more about being the ambassador of ESPORTS and all that stuff nowadays. Wouldn't be surprised if the Daily takes something of a backseat in the next few months (if it hasn't already).

Either way, I'm always a fan. I've known of Day9 since before he started his dailies, when he was really just a very good and knowledgeable player helping out on the BW strategy forums. He even did an audio commentary years ago of one of my own D/D+ replays from iCCup.
I'm sorry, but you really have a very immature, naive, and closed-minded view of esports, SC2, and of gaming in general.
I'm just going to leave it at that. As angry as your post made me, it's not worth arguing with someone I assume to be fifteen.

The daily is no longer something that runs alongside Day9's education - this is his life, it pays the bills. Christ some people are SOOOOO fucking ungrateful. a very long time ago he made an appeal to the community to support his hobby by donating to him, and some of us did donate, I'm a student who has bills to pay but I donated what I could because I love the guy, we donated to him so he could keep doing what he did, however he chose to go to a different direction. You are being super dramatic over nothing here bud. he claims he doesn't have time to ladder anymore these days, yet has plenty of time to be playing amnesia and skyrim and streaming them. I think as time passes it will be apparent to everyone that there will be less and less sc2 and more of other games. It just seems to me like he doesn't care for sc2 anymore as he use to, anyways I'm going to go watch daily #100 to make my self feel better, I'm done posting here.
Obviously, your not thinking entirely through. Day9 produce content of about 3-5 hours a week. Some youtubers only dream in making that amount of time in their content. Take Totalbiscuit, he creates daily 1-3 videos that are about 15 minutes. This guy does that in 8+ hours of work (according to himself on his channel). So let me find the underline key point to make this obvious: It takes time and effort to create good content. Not just being "awesome at will".
That said. We don't know exacly how much time he put in to make a show. But it got to be quite alot. Then we have all of the other things. Like times when he goes to tournaments, casts and all that. That's also SC2 related things. Between all of this, he is then playing on ladder to keep himself up to date, to make him a better caster that accually knows what he is talking about. And then you rage when he spent 2 hours a day in the evening before going to bed on what could be called "his spare time outside of SC2" a couple of days in a row on amnesia?
Even if SC2 is a hobby for most people, he still probably spend 8 hours+ daily. Getting away from the game is natural but when he streams what he is doing to give out more content, you rage?
If you then ask, why not stream when he accually do ladder? Sure, he could. But since he is still giving out so much content. Pushing out stream time will probably be alot of things that is going to come up later in the daily.

Day[9] your a big inspiration to me in more ways the one. You're not only a figure of the SC2 community to look up to, but a great role model for me in my real, everyday life. Thank you for everything you do for us. Big <3 for you my friend.
My opinion on why he hides his 1v1 rank
+ Show Spoiler +You also have to understand that he keeps his exact league ranking a mystery on purpose. By revealing his exact extent of how good he is causes people to de-legitimize his opinion. If it turns out he's around Arotsis rank 30 masters (Artosis' rank last time I checked) He'll have people occupying the other 29 Ranks ahead of him countering everything he does simply because they think they know better. Then you'll have people 15 ranks below him saying Day9 I know just about as much as you because Rank 50 masters is almost as good as 30 therefore my opinions as legit as yours.
It's a problem that happens on TL in that Pros post opinions and people discredit them straight off the bat. Happened to KawaiiRice and it happens to others (only with the excuse being "You choked in tournament XYZ you're bad"). With Day9 and no one knowing his rank you don't focus on his credentials outside of him being an extremely good Brood War player and simply being right in what he implies. You can guess where he is, but you're never truely sure which makes you think twice before replying to any of his analysis. could be totally wrong but eh
