If you consider nations outdated, it makes no sense to even have a WC. I already agreed with you that it's not always easy to decide which should be the 'primary' country. But I'm still against you playing in the Dutch national youth squad and then transferring to SA/Spain at a later age. And in the current Curaçao squad, there is ONE player actually born on the island, the rest is just born and raised in NL. Their wiki pages list Curaçao as their 'sports nationality', which is just ridiculous. This is just NL B who made it through the easiest area for qualifying in the world.

I swear TL should give some more scope for nationality over location, you could be South Africa/Netherlands/Spain. Getting flashbacks to the time some people thought I was Dutch when I was Wombat_NI haha
Aye I’d broadly agree re nations, if pure cosmopolitanism is a 0 and rabid nationalism is a 10, I’m probably about a 2. I quite enjoy some of our culture and colloquialisms, and international sport but that’s about it.
I mean if we could peer into the souls of people, declaring for a nation you’ve no real emotional connection with kinda sucks, but we can’t do that.
Aside from anything else, if you’re a player plying your trade in a big European league, you’re likely earning at a level you couldn’t in any other profession. You’re one horror injury and failure to recover from losing that gravy train. Hey it’s an experience to play a World Cup, but realistically if you’re turning out for a minnow you’re getting battered, it doesn’t appear a risk worth taking for me unless you actually have some emotional investment.

Liverpool had 18 shots, 3 on target.
I think that stat is really illuminating.
For comparison Forest had 8 shots, 7 on target.
Liverpool just ran out of ideas and ran out of the confidence they needed to play the ball through our midfield and expose our defence. They just gave up and shot from anywhere, whereas their defence was completely useless - although I have no explanation for that because they are usually great 1 on 1 defenders.

Well he somehow won the league last season so that is giving him some leeway I guess.

I think people are underestimating the Jota loss. Anyone who saw Andy Robertson’s interview after Scotland made the World Cup, it was very poignant and potentially illuminating.
Basically he said he was very emotional in the leadup, they’d often talked about how desperate they were to play in one.
People respond to grief differently. Presumably it’s having some impact though.
Add to that a whole load of new arrivals, that seemingly require a change of system to make work, and that’s tricky to navigate.
Then you have signings who are just a like-for-like refresh who aren’t playing well, like Kerkez.
We’ve still got cups to come, and Liverpool have looked decent in Europe too. They absolutely mullered Real Madrid in what was probably their best performance of the season, least that I’ve seen.
It would seem unlikely to me that they can return to sufficient form to challenge for the Prem title, but CL is doable if they can click. They can still have a decent season if they can manage that and do well in the various cups.

Liverpool might be 11th, but they are only 3 points behind the team in 4th.
Sure, they're having a dreadful time of it at the moment but recovery isn't far off and won't take very long.

Yeah catching up to Arsenal might prove tricky even if they turn things around but if they turn things around then CL is obviously still on the table.
But they do need to turn things around. If they maintain the 'past 7 games'-form the rest of the season, they'll end up around the relegation spot.
Also to be fair - those 7 matches have been against teams placed 2,3,4 and 5. Only the 0-3 vs Nottingham was a dreadful result, in isolation. Also also if you told me after 5 games that United would be ahead of Liverpool 7 games later then I would've said that you are certifiably insane, so who knows how it'll be 7 games from now. It's not like their players are suddenly bad football players, stuff can turn around. I'm not really faulting supporters (or even owners) if they're starting to think Slot has to go but panicky replacements definitely don't have a particularly strong track record.
