Exactly. I mean look at Rüdiger who gets cheered for even by the fans of the opposition in away games.

I'm not sure that I'm comfortable with the idea that because fans are racist to one black guy and not the other, it must be the guy's fault that people are racist to him.

I am not blaming the victim for racial abuse that is obviously wrong but I do blame the victim for beeing an asshat and getting flak for it in general. Unfortunately too many "fans" are crossing the line from one to the other

Any examples of him being an asshat? I genuinely don't know what you're talking about

That is the first thing that comes up in YT:

Add to that he is diving like crazy, generally unsportsmanlike behavior like kicking balls away, provoking, protesting...
In fact RM has the most yellows for protesting in La Liga, with Vini leading the charge. And this is with the magical RM bonus special treatment

Overdue but, this is really damning on the Ineos lot for me as well.

How does the man himself, much less the dressing room buy in and keep motivated if it’s made publicly known that they would have replaced him in the summer but couldn’t find one?

It feels they’ve pissed away this season already. They’re started badly, so it’s already a salvage job. Potential new coaches are already in situ in other jobs, so is it a caretaker treading water kind of deal?

I think at this stage, they’re going to struggle to attract top managers, the club overall is so dysfunctional, but with a fan base that’s huge and has quite high expectations. You’re on a hiding to nothing, as we say over here, all the pressure but not all the tools.

I suppose the top managers, as top players, have abnormally high self-belief and may back themselves to succeed in any scenario.

Okay so we got Ruud van Nistelrooy as Interim and guys like Xavi Hernandez or Edin Terzic as discussed replacements. Good thing is, it basically can only get better.
Who would be your favorite? I think I would actually stick with Nistelrooy and see how it goes. Xavi's playstyle is no good for ManU and Terzic name might not be "big" enough.

who would have thought we would be the first team in the pl to sack their manager lmao

anyway the team is a complete cesspool, you'd be insane to take the job unless there are guarantees to clean the roster up

As an aside, how bloody good is Cole Palmer? How’s he perceived beyond these shores? I’m quite curious.

I do tend to dislike the ‘if player x was y nationality we’d all be raving about them’, but sometimes there is some truth in it. But it does seem that this generation of English players is quite respected the world over

Works in the opposite direction too, I think many, many, English severely underrate Harry Kane, and if he was say, Italian with multiple PL golden boots, a European golden shoe and like 68 international goals, Enrico Canna would have a feared reputation amongst English supporters.

If I take out Messi for obvious reasons, Ronaldinho or perhaps Kaka for their absolute peak 3-4 years I really can’t recall many better 10-type players of that vague style/position in me time watching this sport.

Great player to watch

If we’re talking 10s that can play/may be stationed out wide, I really don’t think there’s (m)any better in the recent past. He’s not quite as good at beating a player as some of the competition for sure, although he can do it. His passing/vision is amongst the best, and his pure finishing ability I’d argue is just outright best in class.

I would have any of Foden, Wirtz, Musiala, Simons etc at Inter in a heartbeat. But if you gave me a voucher for one free 10 of my choice I think I’d go with Palmer

Yamal is obviously completely absurd and lord knows how high his ceiling is, I just hope he doesn’t burn out from playing frequently from a young age.

I wonder if Palmer’s route maybe will ultimately have helped him. Develop in a great setup, get the odd runout, then move to a club without huge expectation and establish yourself as the main man in your early 20s. Versus breaking through in your teens, with the spotlight and if you’re good enough, playing tons and tons of football while you’re still developing

Look at the squad, find a manager who fits the profile of the current roster. Although that’s quite tricky as the roster itself feels disjointed.

Xavi strikes me as a nonsense idea, and if he’s even on a shortlist I think that speaks rather badly to their recruitment. United IMO have suffered a lot in recent years for not having even one let’s say ‘Xavi style’ midfielder who can control the tempo, retain possession and spray the ball around. As a player and a coach Xavi is used to playing football that requires 2-3 of that kind of player, at least.

Terzic isn’t a bad coach, nor is he great either IMO. A good CL run for sure but bottled a league, and had an underwhelming league performance in one season IIRC. He was also part of the furniture in Dortmund, I do wonder what happens if you take him out of that environment. He may have it in him to prosper in otter clubs, but I dunno if United is where you want to find out, both for him and them.

In retrospect, indeed at the time I felt Solsjkaer did a decent job at United, but part of that I think very much was knowing the club, being a legend there.

I feel a bit the same about Zidane, I think being Zinedine Zidane was a huge asset and a great fit for Real Madrid at that time, and would be for France if he took another gig. Without that, as a pure coach, would he prosper as much elsewhere?

I think Cole Palmer is as invisible on mainland Europe as he is on the island. I think he is a great and probably the best English to come for the next many years. Loads better than Foden for sure, even better than Saka (who is the main carrier of Arsenal and England). He could even rival Kane as one of the best ever

Felt like Ten Hag was a dead man walking for a while. I guess press conferences were never his big forte, but there were so many excuses that he had to go at some point.

If they can actually piece together a team, it's still just ~6 points to European football. It just feels like no manager can thrive in the current United. It feels like they need a club legend who can navigate & change the organization rather than someone who just manages good football.

If we ignore Potter's Chelsea stint, is he potentially any good? He's at least English, so maybe he has some diplomatic possibilities and understanding that could help in dealing with the board and such.

Ohh so Real is throwing a tantrum and boicoted the ballon dor ceremonie.

Fun times. To me the award stopped being relevant when they started mixing club/NT success with actual player performance but still, they had so much planned (live show, 50 people travelling) and it was all just cancelled because word came out that Rodri is winning the thing (which is a mess regardless of how good rodri is and how much he means to citi/Spain).

As for cole palmer he is amazing nobody that watches him will argue against it. Issue is for markets that dont value chelsea as much or dont have their games on tv much (too much football going on at times and chelsea doesnt have the reputation for amazing games so they get passed on) he is not really visible. Not as flashy to be in every summary or news piece either, and always has that tag of the kid that was not good enough for city but is able to score some goals in chelsea as unfair as that is.

If you look at the history of the award, it’s mostly always been like that

Actually it’s more in recent times where you’ve seen sheer individual brilliance sometimes win out.

Personally my issue with it in recent times is it seems to bounce around year on year. Sometimes it’s individual brilliance, sometimes it’s coming up clutch as part of a successful team, or teams

I don’t mind either angle but pick one
