Glasner to Chelsea?

Unless he wants to take a sideways step to a solid Bundesliga side think his next move is very dependent on who remains in situ come the summer. He may want to give La Liga or Serie A a shot maybe too, although I haven’t heard many whispers there.

The best fit could well be Newcastle, but that depends on if Howe goes or not. I could see him being a decent fit at Liverpool but that seems Alonso’s gig if they do fancy a change. ma United feel to be in that awkward Solskjaer zone where the caretaker has done so well it’s hard to dispense with them end of season.

It feels true of players but even more so of coaches, timing and making the right move at the right time. Be interested to see where he lands

At least Reddit seems to think Glasner is too demanding for what current Chelsea ownership wants, but then again it's not like there are endless options for either side.

Looks like Maresca, Kompany and Luis Enrique are the betting favourites for next City manager. Glasner is there too, but behind the likes of Xabi and Iraiola.

Wouldn’t be all that bad for them from what I’ve read. UEFA can’t slam them with regs and a historic settlement agreement being breached if they aren’t competing in Europe

If they can’t make CL, it might actually be better for them to skate around European comps entirely. CL is still worth it, but it’s not like you make much from the Conference League

Mbabbe has apparently liked some social media post suggesting Mourinho return to Real Madrid. Usually I hate drawing headlines from anything players do in social media, but Mbabbe is so media trained that anything like this feels like a calculated move.

Probably it's him having a laugh at either the media circus or some inside joke, but you get the idea.

Luckily for youse I don’t have much of a life so I’ll be sticking around a while yet! In seriousness thank you for considering me contributions worth reading at times

How are y’all thinking about this World Cup? As an event more than the sporting side

I’m only really plugged into the UK sphere, there’s an increasingly large backlash to it, probably bigger than even Qatar.

A lot is around pricing, which is insane, and some of those gripes are feeding back into other criticisms of FIFA

Is this a debate that’s happening in all your various countries as well?

Nobody I know is going, breaking a streak of somebody I know being at a Word Cup that stretched back to 2002. And unlike 2002 most of my peer group are working adults, hell I know like 3 football journalists/writers nowadays

If folks in (mostly) the UK that I know, many with good salaries in skilled industries simply don’t think they can afford it I mean, what’s that mean for working class here? Never mind in other countries that are less wealthy and international spending power is less generally

My football buddies and myself are just holding out for the UK Euros, a competition where prices are going to be basically in line with the past few editions adjusted for inflation, not in a Gulf State etc etc

Look I’m not myopic, the World Cup is the World Cup, that necessitates a lot of slack. Increasingly it feels FIFA is actively taking the piss, and I don’t think a love for the World Cup is an inexhaustible resource.

They’re a complete disgrace and not remotely custodians of the game, and they’ve got worse by far under Infantino.

‘Oh yeah Australia you can’t prepare a full World Cup bid in a day or two, shame you didn’t do that, we’ll have to give it to Saudi Arabia’

Like us or loathe us, or be ambivalent, there isn’t a single country in the world better placed than the UK to host a football World Cup in terms of specific sporting infrastructure for that sport. Nah youse can’t host. It’s also not a very big country so transport logistics aren’t that hard either

At some point this organisation ceases to be unfit for purpose. I think we’re there already. They’re so up their own fucking arse it’s untrue

I’m already going soft boycott on this one. I’ll watch but it will be in bars, where my individual eyeballs aren’t being tracked at least I guess.

I am on the fence as well. Love to watch WC class football and think tts going to be interesting but time zones alone make it a bit difficult to watch live. None of the streaming services will get any money from me, most probably will try to watch it somewhere public or recast.

It feels more like prestige to be able to even watch the games and not for fans of the sport anymore, which is really sad.
Plus the political situation with a loonatic leader... I dunno.

On the plus side, I only remember seeing my country even qualify for WC once! And that was 1998 :D Might take some decades to be able to see austria going.

Barely watched the last WC, will watch even less this time around. As for personal attendance, why would you even want to go? Ticket plus food and lodging plus travel you'll be out of a middle four digit number. And for what? To stroke Infantinos balls? Yeah no

As for UK to host:
Food and fans are better in Germany! Traffic and transport are definitely worse though

Youse already had one not all that long ago! And haven’t bid since IIRC

The UK invented the blooming game, and have by far the deepest football-specific stadium infrastructure going, and the country isn’t all that big. Especially with the expansion to 48 teams, there’s increasingly few places that could conceivably solo host, of which the UK is 100% one.

I’m not going to claim zero bias here, equally I am right :p

Strange, I think outsider perception wouldn’t rate German food especially highly :p, but public transport very much the opposite. Although from what I gather the German rep for the trains always running on time doesn’t reflect modern reality?

One would want to go because it’s the bloomin World Cup! For all Infantino and co’s bluster, they are kinda right that football does bring nations together in a way few events do.

They seem intent on pissing that all away, which is a crying shame.

Big groups of travelling fans add a lot to the spectacle, (generally) are a boost to whatever area they’re staying in and for the fans themselves it’s a special experience getting to travel alongside many of their compatriots.

UEFA know this, I presume other confederations do too for their various continental competitions.

With FIFA it’s just absolutely brazen contempt for the fans, hell the game itself.

There’s a lot of anger in the UK currently, especially around pricing, I was wondering if it was similar in your various locales. I’d assume Germans would be as, if not more pissed off given the fan culture there is a bit more egalitarian and principled

Forest with the random 5-0 away win at Sunderland. We're such a bonkers team. Mad as a bag of wasps.

We're surely safe now. 8 points clear of Spurs with goal difference basically being an extra point on top of that.

Surely!

Given the Prem this season, I’d consider an effective 9 point swing in 4(5) games remaining as a tall order for any team in the league, even the ‘winningest’ teams in Arsenal or Man City

For a Spurs or West Ham who’ve averaged basically a point per game all season, and in the former case where morale is seemingly in the toilet it feels exceedingly, exceedingly unlikely.

I don’t think we’d even see it overhauled if Forest didn’t have another game in the league this season, which obviously isn’t the case.

It’s also nice for Forest fans (and indeed many neutrals too) that they should be safe and can give Europe their best shot.

Looking more and more like a straight shootout between Spurs and the Hammers

It would be extraordinary if they were to catch us but the kind of extraordinary that you might want to plan for just in case.

Not that I post a lot or that you guys notice but at least i read TL dailly.

1.5 or 2y ago give or take the site had an update and that killed my ability to even open it outside of my pc, which made it impossible to be around.

When trying to open with a different phone it required a new log in and the process to retrieve the password gave me a couple of issues as well.

It also seems the logging you off became more commun and given the issues above to reset pass, this might also contributed.

I remember when i finally managed to come back, the volume of users/number of posts dailly was much lower. So there might have been users facing the same issues as me that simply didn't had the patience to move past the new hurdles to post here.

Either that or just a coincidence and im overthinking this :D but other users on US Pol thread or even the switch thread or here were gone around the same time.

This is a tough one. Football is what a lot of people here use to escape the hardships of reality, so it is common that regardless of what happens around the ball rolling, it tends to be mostly ignored in the general public.

Specific groups will for sure make noise about the US and Trump but that is not the focus now. WC focus usually only starts when the season ends as up to that point the title race and media fighting is fully focused on the league.

People complained about ticket prices yes but not that much as far as im aware.

Closer to the event i expect to see some debate about boicot should it happen or not, but with cRonaldo going to the WH not so long ago...the average football fan will not think about this im afraid.
