Also the handball rule might be shit, but so was "offside" last year when var got involved with in it. This handball rule is just what its gonna be, i mean for me both these guys arms are not in natural positions for me at all, Dier is falling down normally and arms flailing in the air? Then the palace defender Ward looks like his hand pushes out, the line has to be drawn somewhere.

Do you need to have eyes at the back to move them behind? well who did not expect city to implode if they dont sign a good defender? city vs leiceister has two beautiful goals by mahrez and maddison 3/4 defenders of city create a penalty haha

and also i agree with people saying the current handball rules are stupid as fuck. if i was playing as a forward i would make it my mission to hit defenders arms rather than actually try to shoot for goal. probably have a better shots/goal ratio if i convert all those arm hits to penalties anyway

Yeah Roy Hodgson said that the Hand ball rule should just be 'If someone deliberately uses their hand to gain an advantage it's hand ball. If the ball just hits them with no intention it's not' End of. That seems so much simpler than all this bollocks we have about silhouettes and natural body positions. Also how fucking old is he now?..... 73 says Google.

I mean, sometimes it's super obvious, but the problems will always occur when it isn't. So the new rule simply removes the need to judge whether a handball is intentional or not. I do agree it leads to really stupid penalties and puts an undue burden on defenders.

There is a reason good defenders have their arms behind their backs whenever possible. refs have been making these decisions for decades and var was supposed to be brought into assist with judgment calls. if you dont trust the 1st ref to make these calls then they shouldnt be refs in the first place. and if youre gonna make var make every difficult call and leave nothing to the judgment of referees, why have referees on the pitch at all? seems like common sense has gone out the window with the implementation of these things. though to be fair i think common sense itself is a rarity in todays society

Meanwhile an open header is really hard to predict and in the first case the defender isn't really committed to any kind of blocking attempt. As long as he doesn't actively make things worse with reaction, I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt there. The second one is a pretty clear no-call for me. He's being pushed from the back midair and mostly concerned about his balance.
