You can see a fine example from last night in Tampa's game....Condra was clearly tripped yet besides falling from the trip he decided it would be cool to spin and roll on the floor.

The Florida dude got the deserved tripping penalty and Condra got an embellishment penalty. This is a strong motivator to avoid players doing the ridiculous acts they do in football (soccer). As a consequence I see a lot less (and I mean a LOT) diving in north American sports.

Plus, I think the culture helps and our euro countries most think is legit to throw yourself to the ground to make sure the ref saw the foul (or made up foul in some cases to avoid losing the ball).

While I think culture is a factor (North American sports tend to dive less, and South American/Iberian countries have a lot more diving), there's still a LOT of diving in American soccer. It's really a problem specific to the sport and the nature of refereeing.
A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else.

I dunno why ... the Oilers are on track for a #1 pick this year to turn things around.

If DET beats BUF and PHI beats WPG in regulation or OT, then all 7 Canadian teams will have been officially eliminated from the playoffs.

I think Yak is just tired of the Oilers and all the retarded bullshit with the team. The old management fucked the team so hard between drafting and scouting it's probably going to be another 2-3 years before they are a serious playoff team. Yak has always come off as a guy with a lot of passion for the game and wants to win as much as possible and with how bad the Oilers are its probably come to a point he wants to just get out of there and on to a team that isn't a doormat for most of the league.

Canada not making the playoffs is odd but not entirely unexpected. The Oilers weren't really expected to make them. Calgary overachieved last year and regressed back to where they probably should be at. The Jets underachieved this year and probably should have been atleast in the playoff hunt. The Habs got exposed for being a 1 man team when Price went down. Vancouver has turned into an absolute shit show with their new owners and management combined with the Sedins starting to regress, probably should have been a playoff contender but injuries turned the team into a tire fire. Not 100% sure on what went wrong with Toronto or Ottawa haven't payed much attention to them this season.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't most players (or at least a very significant part) in NA soccer actually foreigners? (I confess my ignorance but from across the pond this is how we thing soccer works there).

With so much foreigner players there, the culture gets influenced by them. For instance as an example of the opposite scenario, the BPL has a lot of non British dudes playing...but when they get there, they learn that diving is not going to work (both by culture and style of refs) so they adapt quickly. I think in NA it might have happened the other way around? So if this holds, I don't think the sport in itself is flawed in this regard.

Still, I mostly agree with you and completely agree on the part that the ref's style has a big role in how the game is approached by the players.

Happy bday

That's good but sad. He has been playing a lot better in that first line these past few games. And watching the McD Eberle line has been fun and they have several dominant shifts across the game so EDM is not thaaaat bad.

The problem is, more often than not, a freaking goal against comes out of nowhere (with nowhere being equal to a retarded give away, a complete lack of defensive coverage, a freaking bad goalie). They have their good games but most are inconsistent as hell.

Yak has never been put in a position to succeed in his Oilers career, sans a handful of games with CFMD (at which he did succeed).

Hi did very well under Krueger, then spent multiple years getting Eakins'ed. Then he finally got a new coach and got injured by a linesman. You can't make this shit up.

He will be a case study for future generations on how to completely botch the development of a skilled player. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

it is done

I never unerstand why teams regularly saddle players like Yak with bottom six grinders. It's one thing if you run a scoring third like the Rangers or Hawks, but the Oil do not have that.

What is wrong with Bishop? o.O :D

Any chance he gets to win some award this year? Do you guys think there is any possibility to have him in the run for Vezina?
