Oiler games in a nut shell:
McDavid is on the ice: Don't blink, you'll miss magic. All our offence is coming. McDavid is on the bench: Defensive meltdown after defensive meltdown and turnover city.
In the unlikely event someone figures out a way to shut McDavid down the Oilers are fucked. NOBODY else scores other than McDavid, Eberle and whatever warm body they toss on the line with them.

honestly he's so stupidly good that they would have to actually gameplan to be bad in order to suck still in like 3 years. Him combined with the others is inevitably going to force teams to pick their poison in the same way teams have to pick putting their best dman vs Sid or Malkin.
obviously not this year but I'd be pretty surprised if they're not flirting with playoffs in 2-3 years.
I wish Yakcity would start killing it

there's zero upside to trading a stud 25 year old on a favorable deal. he is legitimately a top 5 LW, a ppg player, he'd easily get 8.5+ on the open market. 6m per/5 years is a total steal for the player he's turned into. So as far as skill and cap hit you can't do much better.
minny's got some good but far from great young dmen. Spurgeon is far and away the best of the younger guys, and he's no where near close to Hall in terms of value. Tossing in other young dmen wouldn't make that an even deal still, and there's like a zero percent chance of minny giving away two top 4 dmen, not just because of that but because that would add yet another lw to the team and necessitate a trade of someone like Vanek, who isn't gonna have much of a market.
just around the league, i really struggle to think of any kind of trade involving hall that would net a worthwhile return in terms of talent and $. Hall's deal is one of the few things edmonton has done right i nthe last decade

yeah I agree with that, just don't think there's any pound for pound value for him. like with the jones-johannsen trade, right now johannsen has more value straight up. CBJ rolled the dice that Jones will continue to improve, but they def lost if he doesn't. I actually think considering the circumstances they got pretty damn good value considering that he was vocal about wanting out, but something like that would not be a net gain for edmonton.
like short of getting someone like karlsson back or an established top young dman, def do not think it would be close to worth it. I think cap will majorly play in edmonton's future soon, because eventually CMFMD (flaccid please correct my usage if wrong) and to a lesser extend, Draistl and Yakcity, are going to be up for renewals in the next 3 years. Nurse as well. They'll also be out from under guys like purcell and pouliot but it's gonna be hard to squeeze in those deals and secondary players around three $6m/per guys in eberle, nudge, and hall (all of whom are worth it).

this still runs into the same issue about talent and cap space. Okposo and Hamonic are both good and underrated. Okposo is also going ufa and due to get a bump into the $6m+ range, which means probably $7m in the extra edmonton has to pay to retain/draw in talent on the open market.
talent wise, hall is worth at least hamonic and okposo heads up. no need for schultz, and it defeeats the purpose of the trade to give away a dman. schultz is good but miscast. he's a guy you feed offensive minutes. they use him all over the place since they have shit otherwise. adding someone like hamonic would be huge for edmonton and schultz, because it would mean better player usage for both.
also prospects really arent of use to a team like edmonton. they need roster players

Fun little thing that was on Reddit. Sorts out favorite/least favorite teams. My results are rather boring tbh, typical Flyer fan response I would think.

officiating in this Rangers-Blackhawks game has been nonsense. Kreider gets interfered with and gets called for a pretty ticky-tack holding, and I have no idea what the officials were looking at with the Stalberg penalty in the third. at least they made the right call on the disallowed goal, but still.

My rankings 1: Edmonton Oilers 2: Opponent of the Toronto Maple Leafs 3: Washington Capitals 4: LA Kings rest don't really matter Second Last: Calgary Flames Last: Toronto Maple Leafs

To make it worse they dont call anything on Yandle after he 2 hand chops Panarin's ankles after he puts in the empty netter.

So Therrien is a moron (duh). Granted, PK was getting a little adventurous at the blueline for a tied game late in the third, but how he shoulders the blame when the goal happened because Pax has no idea how to mark up 3v3 is insane.
The trade stuff is most likely media or opposing gm manufactured garbage, but the Habs were dumb enough to hire Therrien in the first place so who knows!

What's your top 10 look like that he's not safely in that????
I mean I could maybe see argument against top 5. But top 10 is an absolute no brainer. He's regularly near the top for dmen scoring, he's always a major major net positive on possession, very good in his own end, a pain in the ass to play against, fantastic skater, and phystcal.
Keith, maybe Weber and Karlsson are the only ones I would say are definitely better. But no matter how you cut it easy top 10 for sure, come on now
