On July 21 2016 07:51 nayumi wrote: Not saying Pogba is not overpriced, but: - Man Utd total shirt sales last season was around 2.9m shirts, so thats roughly 260,000 shirts per player (I'm only dividing this by 11 of the main squad on the assumption that Pogba will definitely be one of the more popular players like Martial last year anyway so he will definitely net more sale than the rest of the team, so it should make up for using 11 players instead of the entire squad of 24 or sth) - Average shirt price is around GBP50 - So that means if sales goes well, within a year Pogba will generate around GBP13 mil in revenue. Even if you take out the costs and whatnot it's still quite a good return. And let's not forget the better advertising deals United will get with more stars on their line-up. So yea the GBP 100mil deal or whatever figure might look really retarded but from the business point of view it's really not that bad. Also back when Utd let him go for almost nothing, there was nothing that guaranteed that he'd do well. He was a young player with potential yes, but he wanted more time on the main squad while the manager didn't think he was ready. Perhaps it was a bad read from Ferguson but the bloke was in his last year on the throne, I'd understand if he wanted a more established squad to win a title for the last time, rather than entrusting his faith on the youth. As a manager you will always have young and promising players who want to prove themselves on the first team, and you have to make a choice not knowing whether they'll turn out like Paul Pogba or freaking Ravel Morrison. 13gbp in revenue maybe but most of the revenue of shirt sales aren't profit. Lots of it goes to the sponsor etc. I read somewhere the average profit for a shirt is only €12 for the club. Pogba isn't going to get you any sponsorship deals either. Players like Ronaldo and Messi get you those not Pogba. Business wise this makes no sense. It's not a business decision.

adidas takes shirt money in return for the massive sponsorship deal man utd got. 100m for pogba is a joke. hes no scholes or zidane and hes no zlatan or ronaldo (popularity wise). man utd are rich as fuck anyway so honestly 100m isnt going to break the club, but overpaying for every single player we buy because woodward is an idiot that gets baited by every club that sells isnt doing much to help the clubs image. not to mention that we look absolutely retarded in the first place for having let pogba go for free.

Ofc clubs make profit from shirt... Martial then this dude, ManU wants to be the next arsenal but they buy all those young French players at ridiculous price. It did not work so well for Arsenal though xD Tbh, it's in the same vein as James or Bale transfers to Madrid. And speaking of image, it might do exactly what they want to do, look super rich and powerful.

Like it was said earlier Manu can make a ton more of that back on shirts if hes anywhere near as good as he should turn out to be. That's true, even Moyes didn't spend that much. Only under LVG did we start spending so much money. I'm really curious to see what's the justification for 100mil though.

JUVENTUS IS WILLING TO PAY 100M FOR HIGUAIN, at that point, 100m for Pogba sounds like the deal of the century. But its a world wide situation, players are at their highest point. Pogba is young, talented has a very marketeable image... Sure 100m is nuts, but then again JUVENTUS IS WILLING TO PAY 100M FOR HIGUAIN

Compare that with Pogba and you have quite a bunch of good alternatives. Aubameyang and Morata are good alternatives. I'd almost always prefer them over Higuain. On a side note, why no one ever tries to buy-out Agüero? Some team like PSG perhaps?
