praying for a good draw, this team has something great going, but we need to get more european matches so we can accumulate points so we can get seeded and get easier qualifications and eventually once again get to the champions league 8 times in a row occasionally knocking out european powerhouses!! I was too young to fully appreciate the first run. :'(

Fan rang up radio show saying he going to take the odds on them getting relegated and only bought half season ticket. Said he be happy if they stay up but at least if they go down he gets good money ^_^

Said he be happy if they stay up but at least if they go down he gets good money ^_^ That's a cowards tactic from the fan but I can understand his frustration. West Ham fought all year for a Europa League spot essentially, fell short, but got in through fair play, and now Bilic/ownership toss it away by playing the 2nd string in the pivotal game... What the hell are they thinking? West Ham has no shot at the league or top 4, and almost no chance at Europa league next season... What are they playing for now that they've bombed out of the EL? Absolute madness that they treat the EL in this fashion when it could have been some of he most exciting nights of the season if they could have a knockout match against the subtop of Europe like an Ajax, a Napoli, a Villareal if they got out of groups (a real possibility in my mind... Hell, Feyenoord made it out last season). British mindset to the EL is insane. Outside of winning th PL or CL, the EL is best competition to show your worth and most of the teams, even mid table clubs like west ham actively throw it. Have they no competitive integrity? Only Southampton seem to take it seriously which is no surprise since they seem to be the only British club with any direction lately. I'm not sure if it's arrogance, idiocy or ignorance that guides most clubs in Britain. They've been absolute pants in both the CL and the EL for several years now but no one seems to think its a problem at all, so long as they can land one spot higher in the PL.

I thought I read that next season they move into their new, privately owned stadium in a nice part of London, so basically the whole goal of this season is "don't get relegated." Then going forward, they'll actually be in a financial position to possibly compete for EL (and maybe CL) more regularly. If that's the case, then it was probably a sensible (although not particularly sporting) tactic for West Ham.
