Theres a topic for this but none for the WC U20 coz England only qualified for this one right?
The Portuguese squad looks quite strong on paper. Joao Cancelo, Raphael Guerreiro, Bernardo Silva, Joao Mario, William Carvalho, Ruben Neves, Carlos Mané, Ivan Cavaleiro, Rafa Silva are all solid players already. Some, like Bernardo Silva, William Carvalho and Ruben Neves are very likely to become household names in football. Very excited.

Eh mostly because of how Germany was hyped, given the performances and the playing 25(?) minutes with a man advantage Serbia should probably have won this.
Joke, England tournament favorites because HURRICANNEE GONNA GET YA
Plus rest of our team actually good and play good football. Last time we played Portugal beat them 3-1. We have 2 injuries which is sad as both were starters. Stones the Everton CB is out injured and Berahino has just had to pull out of the whole tournament and is being replaced by Afobe a striker from Wolves (ex Arsenal youth)
Im quietly confident, but it will rest on how well Kane plays. I assume it should be easy pickings for him aslong as he gets service i dont know.
I think Thelin certainly could have reached the ball if he wasn't tripped (though he did seek contact, as just about any player in a situation like that), so I think it's a stonewall penalty. Bardi commits and doesn't get any of the ball, but collides with Thelin.

Ok Garbutt wtf you doing on the pitch whoever you are you are shite. Chambers is on the bench and these two centre backs look like they from the championship 0.O
Will Hughes sub on was stupid. Oh well we can still win #believe
Southgate doing his best to out do Roy Hodgson with his subs/picks. Brings ings on chasing game (should have been before) and sticks him left wing....hahaha good idea !
Midfield i thought was good but the CMs we have .... they just get bullied or waste possession. When i saw Carvalho for Portugal i thought damn he going be big. We need Loftus-Cheek and Chalobah holding.
Chalobah SICK QUICK FEET
Terrible referee performance i'd like to add, still didn't effect the outcome i dont think but he was dog awful.
Portugal took there chance and won England had just as much if not better chances and couldn't put any away. Well im kinda still hyped.
Southgate needs head examination though. Left back is not even league 1 level let alone international. Ings playing LW is just stupid and he needs more muscle in midfield. He has that on the bench as well so its stupid. He knew we were going to be against Carvalho, like please
I swear reading that summary seems copied straight from a match report from the Sun. In all seriousness, an English win might have been okay here, but mutch like the Germans yesterday they seem wildly overrated. And that game was probably the least entertaining so far.
And wtf there is no football on for 2 and a half hours til the Copa America game starts?
England looking poor still, they can play 100x better than this which sad. Tactics seem all wrong and some of the players are just not performing at all. Oh well still had the best chances of that 1st half just as usual someone messes up.
Well its England trying to pass through a defensive Sweden who are looking good on counter due to the 2 centre backs England choose are slow. Why is Chambers not playing i dont know. Guy might not be good in Premiership top level yet but im sure he would be more than good here lol.
Stones and Chambers CB would be good.
Sweden looked threatening with the long ball in behind other than that when Sweden had to try pass through it wasn't that good and comfortable.
Poor game again by us but no worries, we are starting to get something going. Stones back next game to sure up that back 4 too because boy its poor. Redmond needs to get himself back into this tournament as well he is much better than what he has shown so far. But no worries, on wards and upwards :D
Very even game, even if England were the advancing team in the second half. Still, I though the Egnland forwards were well contained. However, if any team was going to win the game, it was looking like it was going to be England. Playing 10vs11 against Italy for so long bit us in the arse, as the lads were very tired towards the end. Should have brought on some subs much earlier. And the idiotic way to lose the ball, leading to the corner from which the goal came.
Oh, well. Now we know we have to beat Portugal. Good times.
Loftus-Cheek sub is what we needed someone else who is more than just a 5ft 10 "cam" that the whole of England is in love with to get the ball pass it forward and make a move off of it. Pisses me off all these idiot 5ft tall central midfielder like Carroll Hughes we have who are just useless when someone who is stronger than them gets near xD

Why do you keep calling butthurt retards to people that don't like Bruno de Carvalho? He's he your father? Because you're being a little bit over protective.. I didn't say anything about the club. I would find it normal for you to be defensive if I was "attacking" Sporting, but i'm just writing down my opinion about the president (and a really popular opinion, even among Sporting fans).
I'm not saying he's bad for the club, he's just an egocentric, narcissistic, delusional man. Everyone is entitled to their opinion...
And what do I have to be butthurt about? If you're referring to what i'm thinking (Jesus) i'm more preoccupied with Tuco and Carlos Lopez leaving to your hockey team than with Jesus leaving.
Back to the topic. A very bad game by most of the portuguese players today, especially Mané, Rafa and William who are being very lackluster. On the other end Paulo Oliveira has been phenomenal today.

And your President is a know liar.. like everytime he talks he says at least one lie its amazing... bye.
That's true, BdC really turned sporting around (well he got the banks and the Angolans to help). In that sense he's more like Marques de Pombal - rebuilt Lisbon from the ashes and then proceeded to alienate everyone until he was kicked out of the city.

Lol only GOAT team we should be discussing in this thread is the English side we all know this
On topic the games have been lacklustre in our group i have noticed which is a shame. 2-1 2 red cards in Italy vs Sweden. 1-0 pretty poor game in England vs Portugal where England bad and Portugal just bullied us and won. Sweden vs England a poor game too really, just passing across back 4 for England nothing offensive flair or much good. Sweden countered ok and looked strong, but no real stars.
Pretty dull so far right? If you consider what is going on in COPA America for example, will goals and chances etc
Italy Portugal has been action packed, despite the lack of goals. Both teams have had chances. For some reason the other group seems to have a lot less balance among its teams.
Yeah i think it could be down to a seeding issue as well. When Czech get no1 seeds alongside England it becomes unfair i guess.
Glad that your game is action packed though, thats what i thought this tournament would be. Kids trying to impress, they all young enough should be showing the world they are stars!
Pande, leave Porto out of this those are just Sporting and Benfica fans xD
Back on topic. Not the best game by our team again. Regardless, the quality is there and Im hoping that Sweden will see it first hand :D Bernardo Silva is such a talent. And despite prior opinions from other posters, Sergio Oliveira played a very good game and had a lot of influence in our ability to control the pace of the game.
Mane and Rafa were subpar. I understand the reason behind them starting today but none of them got anything going.
WC seems slow but his physical presence is important in the midfield. Iuri showed effort but not always in best way. Our center backs were really solid and our GK seems to be on fire. Guerreiro was not that good, but everybody can have an off day.
Italian players seem dead from the 75min onwards. Nevertheless, they had great chances and some nice offensive plays.
Meaning that Denmark is 1st and Germany is 2nd. Czech Republic still has a chance to qualify for the Olympics in case England gets to the semi-finals, in which case both 3rd placed teams will face each other for the 4th spot.
Think i'd rather finish 2nd here in this group. Semi final vs Denmark looks more appealing than vs Germany as they have some big players that might step up in the knock out round. Need beat Italy first though!!
On June 25 2015 03:53 warding wrote: William Carvalho's feet are made of bricks. Sometimes that good, but when he's in a finishing position in front of the GK it's pretty horrible.
ye i dont understand he knows how to pass so well... but he is crap at scoring... cant he just imagine a teammate inside the goal ? xD
Yeah England went full foreigner xD Was just terrible they let him walk through the midfield and deflected shot and 2-0. First goal was even worst, centre backs just went to sleep xD
To be honest whilst i think its utterly crawl, at the end of the day its only them to blame. Looked good vs Portugal and beat a shite England team with ease. But when you play as poorly as u do vs Sweden cant do anything but look in the mirror!
No not cured them, just cant believe they actually played like a great team in qualifiers and friendlies to turn up to the tournament and do nothing. They just went full sausage mode, no one looked remotely good offensively. Defensively that was the worst i have ever seen and in the midfield no one got the game by the scruff of its neck.
I'll agree that England stood out with bad play, but didn't every team in this tournament disappoint? Germany, Italy, Sweden and Portugal all played one good game, the only team that delivered twice was Denmark and they got destroyed in the other. The tournament just hasn't lived up to the hype at all tbh.
I'd agree with sneirac. No team in group B looked dominating while in group A every team looked decent in at least one game, and poor in at least another. Germany vs Portugal is going to be fun. Portugal has looked below what it can do and I think it's really a question of getting the tactics right. I'd like to see a 4x3x3 with Paciência upfront. On the other hand, our fullbacks have been really poor (Raphael Guerreiro wtf is wrong with you) and Volland might have a field day.
William Carvalho really pisses me off, the hype will die soon if he keeps this up. Good thing is that now he either trains under Jesus (the best in the world at creating midfielders apparently) or he goes somewhere where he has to move his fat ass and make a forward pass once in a while.
Bernardo Silva is the next big thing. Too bad he's too small to make it in the Premier League (he wouldn't survive a cold rainy night in Stoke), so I'm guessing there's a Real - Barça - Valencia move looming.
Isn't Germany's defence playing the exact same way they did in the first three games? Only difference is that they are now playing a team that is actually showing up. Should be even more one sided, even if Germany had a couple of good chances.
On June 28 2015 01:50 KobraKay wrote: Yeah this was the best case scenario. As soon as Germany was gaining some confidence and starting to get to our area bam. 3-0 xD
Paulo Oliveira has been very surprising and Bernardo Silva is a god damn beast!
ye Portugal is having some boss exibitions by some players the keeper is doing amazing, paulo oliveira being boss on defence, william solid as allways, bernardo silva just reks everything and even ivan cavaleiro is delivering somehow lol
4-5 Portuguese players should start for the A team in the Euro next year. Very impressive generation and the U20 guys look excellent too. Bright future ahead!
On June 28 2015 02:08 GizmoPT wrote: german players seem to lack creativity, they all look super fit and strong compared to our players but 0 creativity and magic
Fatigue doesn't explain it. Portugal dominated thoroughly from the beginning, Germany had 1+ day of rest and practically all PT players played a full season at the top level. Germany couldn't penetrate past the midfield and the creativity of the pt forwards was too much for the Germans to handle.
Very impressive performance by Portugal, will be great to see how they can do next year. Germany on the other hand is making England's disappointing performance look very respectable.
Wow what a portugal team. Carvahlo and Silva look really strong. I wonder what offers these guys are getting after a game like this. Bayern should be interested. They should work well with Pep imo.
Germany... well pretty embarrassing perfomance. Ofc Götze, Draxler, Mustafi would have helped but portugal just too strong today.

Im not saying we won due to fatigue o.O I said Germany looked dead....but never was the Portuguese victory in risk because the team looked so much more secure and in control of things.
Like I said a few days ago, the quality is there, we just have to hope they deliver come game time. If they are on, these kids look very capable of winning the whole thing and well, now its just one more game left. But lets not jump ahead of ourselves, Denmark and Sweden are dangerous teams and we have to be at our very best to get this.

So excited. Very proud of the boys even if we fall on the finish line, but I feel very positive about this. Even if Portugal destroyed Germany, we also played a great semi and had a good game in group play. HEJA SVERIGE!
Holy shit, Portugal are blitzing hard in the beginning of the game.
Playing some absolute dog-shite football atm. Off the cross bar! Phew.
Portuguese manager looks like the youngest man in the arena. Total baby-face.
We're getting fucked if the game continues like this. Everything looks wrong. Tactics, pressing, first-touches, passing, and more. All my optimism has faded away in ten minutes of football. Come the fuck on, lads.

dont worry... portugal already missed lot of chances and when that happens team becomes scared and loses game :p so the more time you guys keep it clean more nervous they will become and start fucking it up
Need a big tactical talk in the dressing room. Portugal have so much space to play on. If the early free-kick goes in, this game would have been over. Heavy early pressure and long balls on Guidetti + Thelin, and we might have something going.
Damn, an injury on Helander. Baffo on. Hope his shoulder is okay.
OMFG almost a worldie by Guidetti, assisted by Thelin.

not that Benfica or Porto got a better track record lol this is just reminding me of Portugal - Brazil u20 world cup... so many wasted chances and in the end lose with penalties
(Regarding Guidetti) He's a free agent, so he'll probably have loads of suitors. People call him arrogant and stuff, but I just think he's ridiculously ambitious. He should have left City long ago, but then he had the infection and was out for a long time. Hopefully he can find a good club and get his career back on track.
Cautiously optimistic again for extra time. Sam Larsson could come on to turn on his ridiculous pace. Hope Guidetti can make it through, because we need him desperately for eventual penalties.

Portugal would have been very deserving champions as well and were easily the best team of the tournament to me overall, but this story was meant to end in success. This fucking team, man. Just promote them all to the first team. SHowed more heart and grit than the big names.
On July 01 2015 06:28 NuclearJudas wrote: Yeah, Khalili's had a torrid game and seems like enough of a wanker to do that shit.
I thought Khalili was Swedens best player before the penalties, held up the ball, created space and also worked really hard in defending. That penalty though...
Yup, Khalili is the type of midfielder Swedish football teams desperately have been lacking for two decades.
Constantly makes himself available and seeks out the ball. Always wisely chooses whether to shield, drive or pass the ball. And most importantly he does NOT feel obliged to throw out low percentage hail mary passes just because a mate started a deep run.
It's almost been a rule for two decades now that Swedish center midfielders feel obliged to get rid of the ball as soon as possible they get a hold of it and as soon as they're put under pressure. Mostly ends up with them donating the ball to the other team on impossible "well-at-least-I-tried-passes". And they're all laughably uncomfortable in making drives with the ball on empty spaces in order to attract attention and create space. If the typical Swedish center midfielder got 30m of open space ahead of him, he will always immediately get rid of the ball on a high risk 20% chance pass.
Super important to have someone like Khalili in your midfield.

well i've been told thats how Rui Jorge picks the penalty takers he asks who wants to score.. still not the best way lol
It is better than to send someone who is not up to it. Trust me....penalty deciders should be taken by those who are feeling it (assuming they actually know how to score of course).
I played hockey. After I missed my first one (we still won that one thank god) the next few were misses as well...I still had almost 100% accuracy in practice, always put the ball in the top corner...but until I got another important one in, never was I able to get 100% focused for that shit (and missed quite a few)....and trust me again, missing the last penalty and be eliminated from a competition is hard as hell T_T
