If he plays 3-5-2 because he sees that team has weak defenders why he buys di Maria not better defenders?
IDK LOL
Utd's central defenders: Smalling, Jones, Evans (injured but back soon), Rojo (doesn't know English, unproven), Blackett, Michael Keane. Which of those three are safe to play together?

Evans, Jones, Rojo sounds pretty good to me. Smalling isn't horrible either and Blackett has looked really good for a kid with only 1 appearance. Because van Gaal is a big fan of playing youngsters, like Blackett and Keane, and will never say he values anyones experience, I really doubt he thinks they need more CBs.
Cleverley and Fletcher are just not good enough. The 10 or so injuries don't help either.
He specifically mentioned that he could not play 433 because he did not have a specialized winger like Di Maria (or Ronaldo). So I think the transition will come, maybe even with a 2 striker variant like:
Herrera - Carrick (New Signing) - Di Maria --------------------- Mata ----------------RVP - Rooney
Looks pretty good to me. There is talk of De Jong coming in, who would be pretty perfect untill they get Strootman. But it would leave a whole lot of players on the bench, and there aren't very many people going out yet :/

They are CMs.... you would play with a standard back 4

that would give you 12 players mate.
--------Evans-------Smalling------Jones------- Di Maria--------------------------------------Shaw ---------------Herrera-------------Fletcher------- <----weakness -------------------------Mata-------------------------- ------------------Rooney----------------------------- ------------------------------RVP----------------------
The back 3 are still weak, plug Rojo in there and it gets better. Or he can play wide and Di Maria can take Fletchers spot. That would be even better.
There are spots for Di Maria to play in which he will excel, it's just not attacking midfield.

Ouch.. though the ball has clearly passed the line already when she gives it the extra push into the net... so blame the referee! Of course, not touching it would be better xD

4 in defense 3 Cms, mata, 2 strikers and a goalkeeper. 1-4-3-3.11. You would maybe lack width on the right side, Di Maria would drift left like at RM, don't know about Herrera, and you need a new holding midfielder.
Look like Kagawa is really set for MU exit. Or not. I am not sure how Mata gonna perform there either but may be it worth trying to put Mata there while Kagawa at no.10 position? Or is Mata really that much better than Kagawa that he must be played there and Kagawa somewhere else?

Oh my bad, you meant they need a new signing to replace Carrick. Not to play next to him. Whoops. Couldn't agree more with that though.

I don't think I've seen a single positive thing from LVG since he started at Man U.

ManUtd paid 50m for Mata to play no.10. No way he's gonna play anywhere else on the field. Shinji should just move on. Go to WestBrom, Sunderland or whatever club and start earning fantasy points again Shinji! It's more satisfying than sitting on the bench.
