Well its not just him, there was as much opposition to it among other higherups other than him, so it was easy to be lazy about the whole thing till people got stung over and over and over again. Better late than never.

what are you on about, the FA has been petitioning for it since before 2010 and Platini (the corrupt fool) is still against it

Not a bad deal for Utd, but I'm not sure how much QPR's going to get from him. Still, I live right next to Loftus Road, so I might actually go to one of their games next season, preferably before Barton comes back from suspension.
Heh it almost seems as if Fergie is helping out his old colleague by giving them Fabio and PJS

Some point in time, Iniesta/Xavi/Messi HAVE to burn out. It's just inevitable.

Transfer for Vertonghen from Ajax to Tottenham official. 9 million euro's with a maximum up till 12 with bonuses.
Sad day to see him leaving but at least he's going to a good club where he'll get lots of playtime.

Feyenoord have signed Harmeet Singh from Valerenga Fotball.

Salomon Kalou signs four year contract with Lille. Happy for him. Feels like he was wasted the last years at Chelsea.

Damn, that's a good deal, Vertonghen is good. It's so hard to find good young defenders that are available for sale in this era.
Kalou was definitely winding up his usefulness to Chelsea, not a bad player under pressure but a pretty poor decision maker, not very fast any more and not particularly accurate. He'll do well playing against a lower level of competition.

Seems like Eljero Elia is on the way to Werder Bremen from Juventus for ~6.5 mio €

He only had a 1 year contract left. The transfer sum seems weird to me though. Earlier there were rumours of Tottenham offering 12 mio and Ajax not budging because they wanted 15, but apparently all those rumours were wrong. This transfer has taken a while though.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen rejected a € 25 million bid for Andre Schürrle by Chelsea, according to leverkusen ceo.
should have sold him for 25 million imo.

God damn can someone please sell us a good striker!!! Really hoping that we get Falcao

Vertonghen for that price is a good deal. You never know what you're getting with the Dutch league because anyone half decent looks amazing there but they're not risking much with that kind of money and he'll probably turn out at Dawson level at worst.

Which is why they have Thaigo, Fabregas, Pedro, Villa and Sanchez instead of needing water carriers like Keita.
Keita is a good player but he's the definition of surplus to requirements at Barcelona and both the club and him (unless he fucks of to China for a pay cheque) are better off without each other.

It's just inevitable. i think they might be getting javi martinez, which i thought was just ridiculous at first, but now i understand. he'll eventually replace puyol and can still play the role that keita played for the last few years. i think with him, thiago and fabregas, iniesta and xavi will get plenty of rest.
for messi though, i still think they should buy someone like llorente that can bang goals in when the other team parks the bus. playing him so much especially in meaningless spanish cup and club world cup allowed him to get get a crap load of goals, but he didn't deliver in the three game stretch with chelsea, madrid, and chelsea. and it hurt not having villa to take the load off scoring. pedro also wasn't in form
barca will play a 0-10-0 formation lol. everyone on that team is sort of a midfielder. dat ball posession

They tried that with Ibrahimovic (who's a hell of a lot better than Llorente) but it didn't work. The problem with any plan like that is it takes Messi out of the middle where he's most dangerous.

It has been done before with dutch total football.
But yeah 2 points here...
a) Iniesta is only 28, which is ridiculous. Messi only 25. Xavi 32 but he plays the same role as Scholes who is still going. Iniesta is similar to Giggs and will get a good tail-end to his career. I reckon that Iniesta Xavi and Messi can still be the fulcrum of Barça for a full 6 years.
b) No one in Barcelona is as good as any of the 3 aforementioned players.
