Blizzard and Alienware are here with their unique contest with amazing prizes to be won, by you.
Not the strength of your builds or your tactical maneuvering will be rewarded this time, no.
Alienware and Blizzard are looking for some of the most dedicated and creative people in the StarCraft realms, as they have launched the StarCraft II Diorama Contest, running from October 1st until October 25th.
The competition is opened to anyone aged 15 or more residing in France, in Belgium, in the United Kingdom or in Luxembourg, or anyone of the full legal age residing in Germany, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia or in Ireland, except Blizzard's personnel and their family, affiliates or business partners.
Diorama what? To make things clear from the start, we will give you a small explanation as to what exactly a diorama is:
The current, popular understanding of the term “diorama” denotes a partially three-dimensional, full-size replica or scale model of a landscape typically showing historical events, nature scenes or cityscapes, for purposes of education or entertainment. As this might still sound a little bit abstract, you can simplify it by saying that Blizzard and Alienware will accept almost anything, as long as it is physically built and references to the StarCraft universe (units, buildings, maps, weapons, etc…).
To give some examples. It is allowed to build a papier-mâché Mutalisk, make a cake of Metalpolis or revisit your childhood fantasies and use your old LEGO® or Duplo building blocks to recreate a Thor. Basically, you can use whatever materials you like and apply your imagination to the best of its ability, as long as it has something to do with the StarCraft universe. Blizzard is giving you a carte blanche to let your fantasies run wild and come up with some wicked stuff, just show us off your passion for StarCraft II. Here are some examples of what other people have done in the past as well as you can find lot more amazing stuff in the forums here on http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/:
![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/staff/Hot_Bid/MarineCake.jpg) TL user Vedic's Terran Marine cake ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/staff/Hot_Bid/ReaverCake.jpg) TL user Wadi's Reaver cake ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/staff/Hot_Bid/ImmortalLego.jpg) A LEGO® Immortal
These are just examples of what people have done in the past. It is now up to you to prove you can do at least just as well or better than them and you might be one of the lucky souls to end up with a very big prize.
Prizes Baby! Of course, we are not expected to give it your very best and deliver some creative stuff and just walk away empty-handed. This is where Alienware comes into play and they have set aside five prizes worth $3,000 each. The five best entries will each be given a voucher worth $3,000 to spend as they desire in the Alienware shop (assembling your own brand new desktop or laptop). You can choose between the Alienware Aurora, Alienware Area-51 or an Alienware laptop.
Do not worry, though! If you do not see yourself as the creative type, you are not yet out of luck. Alienware have reserved another $3,000 voucher for the luckiest soul of them all, the person who entered the community raffle and was handpicked out of all others. So even when you do not submit anything, you will be given a shot at a brand-new PC, definitely some nice prizes up for grabs.
Click the images below to check out the full specs of the contest prizes
Rules As mentioned above, there are not many rules that apply and you are given a free hand in what you want to produce. Check the detailed description and rules of the contest at: http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/community/contests/alienware-diorama-contest/index.html
How to enter? The contest runs until October 25th and all Diorama that are sent in after that date will automatically be rejected. So be sure to be on time! If you are interested in participating and sending your submission, head over to http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/community/contests/alienware-diorama-contest/index.html and hit the SUBMIT button and follow the instructions (you have to fill in your personal information and upload the file, which should be less than 5 MB and in the .jpg format as well as deliver a description of your Diorama) and hit submit one more time. Then Blizzard will take some time to pick out the best five and then there will be a final voting to determine the very best entry.
If you would like to participate, but lack the time to make a Diorama yourself, just head over to http://www.diorama-contest.com/ and fill in your details to become part of the Community Raffle. One person will be handpicked out of all entrants and be given his very own Alienware prize. Be sure to enter your name, you never know if you end up with a $3,000 Alienware machine. Raffle entries will close on midnight on November 7 CEDT.
Good luck!

ooh WOW, this is such a cool contest! Looking forward to drooling over some sweet submissions. GL all :D
|
seriously, how could uncontrolable's awesome cake not win this?
|
awesome, but don't really have the stuff to build something. Maybe give it a shot when I'm with my parents. Signed up for the 1 in a billion chance to get a free alienware pc anyway
|
That Reaver cake looks awesome.
|
What exactly are we supposed to put in the 'Unit' section of the non-diorama sign-up?
|
starcraft 2, effort, and now an alienware contest... It is all coming together now

"Unit" there is apartment number or whatever, not a Starcraft unit.
Also, my favorite thing about this entire contest is that the raffle sign up has a Win button.
|
Lego Immortal and Reaver Cake are very nice.

|
Registered for the raffle.
If you guys really wanna help me out, do not register for the raffle because this will increase my chances of winning ;D
here begins my 1/10,000 chance of winning 3k
|
|
"Unit" shouldn't be a mandatory field in the raffle, I don't live in an apartment. o.O

Yeah lol I signed up for it even though I know I won't win. If I somehow won I would call myself one of the luckiest people alive not because I won a 3k computer but because I actually won a raffle lolol .

|
I was pretty close to putting zealot for unit, but I settled on N/A instead.
|
Just a quick note... Is there a US version of this contest?
The competition is opened to anyone aged 15 or more residing in France, in Belgium, in the United Kingdom or in Luxemburg, or anyone of the full legal age residing in Germany, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia or in Ireland, except Blizzard's personnel and their family, affiliates or business partners.
as according to the rules all us united states people dont have a chance, as we arent eligible, probably should put that in the main post, as majority of the post in this thread are USA gamers, and this is an EU promotion it seems =/
however the raffle site official rules never mention any country eligibility at all... im hoping we are still able to win the raffle.
ps i didnt understand the unit thing either in the raffle category. I put "Dark Templar" =/

But it seems the contest isn't for US citizens....
|
|
Looking forward to seeing the entries!
|
Do they allow people from outside the EU or US to participate? Wasn't really mentioned/I didn't see it because it wasn't on page 1/I'm lazy and didn't see it.
XD

Let me see if I have any shoeboxes and plastic animal figures... :D

Dang......

Interesting I signed up and put I lived in the United states and it didn't give me any error and said its confirmed I am in the raffle. Sucks I have no chance sense its only europe not like it matters either way
|
what do you put in unit if you dont live in an apartment?
edit: nvm
|
So also no Netherlands or Denmark as it seems. Strange.
I wonder what the criteria were for compiling the list of eligible countries.
|
|
Since Denmark is not mentioned. Does that mean we are fucked? Or is it just an error?
|
Hey all of you,
I will try and answer most of your questions to avoid confusion.
First of all: On the Raffle page, by "Unit" we mean your house number, so it's not only for people living in appartments and it's not which your favourite StarCraft unit is either.
Second: The raffle page is open to all entries from Northern-America as well as entire Europe. So no worries there, you can just enter your information and maybe end up with a unique prize.
Third: The main Diorama contest is as of right now only for European people with the age of 15 or older. Concerning the eligible countries, the list seems to be missing some of the more normal countries in Europe and we have sent an e-mail to Blizzard to ask clarification. We will keep you updated about that.
That's all for now and best of luck in the competition!
|
I never really went for AlienWare products, since I like to do my modding myself, but GOD DAMN that Aurora looks awesome.
|
Netherlands not on the list?
|
Really nice prizes especially the M11X and M15X. The desktops don't mean much since you can just DIY and make a better one easily for a much cheaper price. Too bad I don't have any chance of winning this hahaha
|
I don't have a SC computer and have to use my husband's. But, as I am a sculptor I am ready to get creative! SC computer here I come!
|
Only Europe for the dioramas???
Epic sadness...
|
WoW and alot of other game related contests fall under the Gambling Law in the Netherlands, so expect not to participate in any. For each contests there is a possibility to get a permit, but it usually has to be requested far in advance.
Other non-listed countries could have similar regulations.

assuming the diorama contest post is official. the raffle is for anyone =/ but the contest that requires time and work is for eu only. well i guess i get to be lazy lol.

The Aurora looks great, if I could only buy the case ...

nice idea that contest but as usual you need probably some months to build a decent warhammer 40k style diorama so i have to pass out

FEEDBACK FOR STAFF:
The new "Sponsored Threads" category kinda made me sad because it got rid of the section where I usually end up staying.
It didn't really add much importance to the threads in it's category.
The "NEW!" tag made all the difference, I was immediately captivated (ooh look, its like when I get a PM) and adding this tag makes the thread stand out SOOO much more.
TY :~)

I was thinking about doing this, too.. I was going to build 6'x6' Lost Temple replica, with the Alienware logo as a depression in the middle courtyard rather than the normal circle brick thing that's there... I was going to have 3 separate engagements going with units, and try to mold the units out of that special modeling clay that is quite dense and holds form under heat. Then I read that the USA wasn't included in the contest >_>
Back in the day when I used to play warhammer 40k, it took us roughly 2 weeks to build a field working an hour a day after school. I'm sure now that I have the proper understanding and tools- if I had all the pieces I could make the map in about 8-12 hours... The units would probably take about 30 minutes each to get a basic shape and then use my X-Acto knives for the detail- and a scoring blade to add the different color detail clay... I was so excited to build it, too...

Hey all,
I am back again. For those wondering what will happen with their application into the Raffle when they filled in a wrong number or a StarCraft unit under "Unit" in the application form, you needn't worry. Should you end up winning the computer, we are not just going to put it in the mail and you might see it arrive one day, we will contact you per e-mail and doublecheck all the information given and hand you some extra details about how, what and when. So all those who happened to have wrongfully entered the "Unit" field, your worries can be laid to rest.
We have checked and the reason for some countries being included and some others, seemingly apparent, not, is linked with the way those countries organize their internet laws. Some countries would see this Contest as being illegal (according to their internet laws) and others would require a special permission, which are very hard to obtain. It is therefore with regret that we cannot include those countries in the list, but the problem unfortunately lies with the respective countries' attitude towards internet-based competitions.
Should you have further questions, you can post them here or send me a private message, I will check back regularly.
Greetings

I've been making a chainmail Hydralisk but there just isn't enough time (only found out about it when it was posted on TL) and as of now the body can't carry the head which I just can't fix in one day. Plus I'm from the Netherlands so I think I'll be giving up on this one
|
Can a native english speaker please answer my question 3 posts earlier? I contacted Blizzard but no reply yet. Thanks!
|
25th i undestand is the deadline....
as it says (included) in the fine print.
as i believe it is a french comp so it is french time midnight.... but thats just assuming
|
Propably the French time which is global time +0, I think. But it could also be dependent on the local time.
I'm really nervous and super curious what has been send in.
