As for cops, well, we could certainly use a smarter and better trained police force. Hey look, an incentive not to be an asshole to your employees! And not entirely true anyway. That's one of the myths HR's of companies tries to tell people as a reason, but it's just not true. Heck, the only reason I ended up leaving my old job was because they wouldn't work with me hours-wise. They just wouldn't compromise and allow me to do part-time work (How my schedule was, I could have worked there in the morning for 5 of the 10 normal hours every single day, leave as everyone is going on their lunch break, and go to class in the afternoon - 20 hour work week np). A lot of companies just won't make compromises though. Often it's due to extra paperwork the managers are too fucking lazy to do themselves, so it ends up costing the company more money since they just lost a good worker and now need to hire some shitter off the streets. Also, a lot of people who do go into another field than they majored in is often due to the economy as a whole, but many do find that they really enjoy their work that they so happened to fall into. It's their natural intelligence and skills that ALLOWS them to do the job better than joe schmoe they hired who couldn't give two shits. But some managers don't think like that because they're fucking retarded. Heck, I've known managers to not hire people because they felt the applicant would eventually end up taking their job or get even higher than they are. And for some industries that's probably true lol. But all-in-all there is no real reason to not hire an applicant that is willing to do the work well and is better than the other applicants whom might also not end up staying in the end anyway.

Cheep can really stir up threads when he wants to. And I know I missed the entire conversation, but the whole American tuition costs really makes me happy that Canadian tuition is quite a bit cheaper. I was super lucky and didn't need to take out any loans to pay for my University education. Scholarships can really help financially.

Furthermore, I believe that it is becoming harder and harder to get into university thanks to increasing tuition costs. I think this is only going to serve to increase the disparity between lower class and upper class.

Ursinus College was and is a great school, small class sizes (the largest I think was 20 students for the entire college), really small school, when I went there, single semester in 2010-11, it was around 1800-1900 students iirc? Heavy science/math school, but I was and am more interested in humanities, History/English mostly, even though both are rather dull fields, English coursework was ez tho, history was fucking terrible, 100+ pages of reading basically a day/every other day. The first year course that was mandatory was amazing though, was just a giant think tank/book discussion/learning experience that covered "great books" over 2 semesters, first being focused on religious texts/early writings and the second on Renaissance/enlightenment era.

Obviously assuming you don't major in some low paying field with poor employment market. it's like any other investment you take a loan out.
