However, Steam taking a cut, not giving you the cash till you get 100$+ on your products and the numerous issues with people using copyrighted content, borrowing from other peoples mods and claiming it as ones own.
Then things like how would they handle the lewd mods just screams bad idea to me.

This just seems like one hell of a hassle to manage and considering valve can barely keep greenlight from not looking like a "give us money to be scammed" section of the service this just feels like someone went full retard without thinking about the downsides.

I eagerly await the day people Pirate mods for games while Steam is flooded with mod mafias akin to the dota 2 workshops

It would be positive if it bring more "expansion" type dlc. Similiar to Falkreach but paying 1$ for a fucking sword has to be joke.

My biggest issue is Valve takes like 75% of the cut and holds onto your money until you make a certain amount. That's not helping the modders, that's robbing them blind under the guise of exposure.

This week is one hell of a shit hole for me. I can't even imagne the shit some of you guys go through......

will you have to repeat a year at high school?

I didn't fuck up that bad.... I just did really bad on a couple of quizes. I talked with my teacher though and he said I could get points back by doing some extra thing. The only reason he is letting me get points though is becuase I had the highest grade in the class and that soccer is getting in the way of every single fucking thing in my life right now....

The first thing I want you to ask yourself Marmy is that, what is the worst thing that could possibly happen? Now is that actually that bad? Because flubbing a couple of quizzes really isn't a big deal. Not to mention, you have the opportunity to earn some extra credit, and you have the highest grade in the class. Also the fact that you even asked if you could do something about it puts you much further ahead than most of the kids in your grade.

I know in High School I absolutely bombed my English Diploma (my English final for grade 12). And I thought that was going to end me, but it turns out that it didn't matter at all. Sometimes the things we get worked up about or stressed about really aren't things we need to lose sleep over. Don't you worry we'll all float on!

I know where you're coming from with Soccer interfering with your school work. Same thing happened to me in Grade 12, I had to choose between either my academic career or pursuing my career in competitive swimming. I choose to focus on school, and my abilities in swimming suffered greatly for it. While I don't regret my decision at all (life's too short to have regrets) sometimes you need to make those choices.

It's okay Marmy, one year from now you'll look back on this and laugh!

Naw dude he's RIP, have fun working at mcdonalds.

From what I can tell moders get around 25% the rest goes to steam/developer which seems reasonable. The thing is it needs to get a big for it to be worth it to make good DLC. Not to belittle your problem, but when you look back at it from 5 years from now you'll realize how little it meant. This coming from a dude who randomly got a D in AP spanish despite not having anything lower than a B in all of my other classes.

I guarantee you if I ever got a D in a class, I would never be allowed to visit Teamliquid again. Complete shutdown.

Not a bit deal, I redid the semester in my Senior year, ended up getting a C+, or something. I fucking hate foreign languages.

In what world is 25% reasonable? Mods increase game life, and it should be more 60/40 or an even split. The devs have well and moved on and steam hosting the content and acting as middleman isn't worth 75% of a price. You're just going to see people either jack up the price to reflect such or set up a donate button or some such and cut out the middleman all together leaving steam with trying to most likely kick off the folks who do this and good luck with trying to manage that.
Conversely, piracy of the most popular mods undermining the entire thing anyway.

Different countries different circumstances.

I'm surprised my head didn't roll when my mom saw my report card with a D in AP Spanish. I think they already knew I was gunna be a disappointment in comparison to my brother, so they didn't bother punishing me for that. lol.

I know it may not seem like it now because high school (Junior year), and right now you feel like your grade is basically everything and your future depends on it, but in a year you're going to look back on this and laugh at yourself for being so worried. Trust me, you'll be fine.

In my senior year of Uni I ended up taking a final that brought what was basically a perfect score/grade line in a class to a B- because finals/paper stacking and procrastination. Was a pretty big fuckup but in the grand scheme of things, it was fairly irrelevant. I already knew the professor well, and she ended up agreeing to mentor me in my independent study on the South African economy anyways. I still keep tabs with her.

Random meandering aside, the point being a few quiz grades won't cripple you. So you do poorly on a few of them because of time crunch, oh well. The professor is giving you extra credit, and you already have the highest grade in the class; even without the extra credit, worst is you go from A to like A- or, heaven forbid, a B+. Don't stress out that much. A few percentage points aren't worth losing sleep over.

That's happened to me in freshman year of college.

I was such a shitshow back then. Actually, wait, I still am. Just marginally less so.

From what I can tell moders get around 25% the rest goes to steam/developer which seems reasonable. The thing is it needs to get a big for it to be worth it to make good DLC. Having a cut off his helpful to stop shitty mods being but up (though it will probably just mean the will be more spammers or unions)

They are using someone elses IP, engine and platform to sell mods on. Making money on modding without consent from the developer is illegal.

You realize the alternative is them releasing their mod for free right? Or licensing directly with the developer which probably won't get them a better deal AND won't help them with distribution the way Steam will.

Err, wouldn't this not affect Nexusmods at all?

Or does that fall under pirating? Because that's what I use(d) for all my modding needs on Skyrim.

On one hand, it's neat for creators to get paid. Thou I think just leaving this kind of thing as a "tip" style would of been the best option. Better yet, if modders are that popular, I'd rather give them money directly then let valve take the majority of the cash.

However, Steam taking a cut, not giving you the cash till you get 100$+ on your products and the numerous issues with people using copyrighted content, borrowing from other peoples mods and claiming it as ones own.

right-o

Selling mods for money and profit is a HUGE NO-NO in fair use. It opens up SO many cans of worms. For instance, the Game of Thrones mod on Crusader Kings II. If they charged money for it, both Paradox Interactive and GRRM are within rights to sue the pants off them if they so choose, but would both probably start with a cease and desist letter.

I'm curious how they're going to legally address this issue when they allow modders to charge money. This opens up a huge grey area in modding that has previously been "fine" because no one made money and it all thus fell under fair use.

Its not really a legally grey area as they pay the developer to sell their mods.

Don't they have this already for Dota2, CS:GO and TF2?

Also the GoT things in CKII can be C&D if they want because it is infringing.

In which case, this addresses the consent of the game developer (a primary concern, but not of other creative IP which may be considered "infringed" upon. Eg, Game of Thrones mod, or a LotR mod. Both GRRM or the Tolkien estate would, if the game and mod is making money off their works without license, have free reign to pursue legal action against both the modder and the game developer (if the devs are also making money off it).
