I think it's cuz it'd be pretty hard to find a best friend to bro out with in the opposite sex, as well. So there's that concession you make when looking for an SO.

I do. I just think the terms are mutually exclusive. You don't have to agree with me.

A best friend is someone that you can sit around and shoot the shit with and know that they won't judge you. Someone who always has your back, and you could enjoy hanging out with all the time. At least, that's what it means to me. That and love don't feel mutually exclusive, in fact, I don't see how I could fall in love someone that I didn't feel that way about.

To me somebody a person loves in a romantic way, and especially when it comes to marriage, should accept you for who you are. "For better or worse" as they say. When I say best friend, I don't mean "man, you guys are my best friends." I mean that absolute #1 go to "If I need help getting rid of a body." level best friend. That person is there to help you be the best version of you possible so you don't feel like an ass for your loved one putting up with your shit.

Since I don't believe in changing for a person, I can't mesh the two.

This still doesn't make sense to me.

You can change for yourself(see: help you be the best version of you possible, your spouse can help you see what that person is and invoke change without you doing it solely for them), I'm not sure how this is at odds with your spouse being your best friend.

Your best friend helps you hide the body because you married someone you don't trust or are afraid that having murdered someone would make them leave you, that's actually in support of the argument that you should just marry your best friend.

I wouldn't say my girlfriend is anywhere near my best friend. That said, I think if my best friend was a chick it would be pretty okay, but knowing that he's a lazy fuck would ultimately drive me insane.
