I think it's more about what each square is surrounded by and the shadow cast on square B that fools us into thinking they are different colours

I laughed. Anyway in real life they are different colours because shade changes the darkness of the white square. The dress is blue and its a really bad photo (or creative) which makes it look lighter than it is.
