On February 21 2015 04:19 Numy wrote: How is it sexist? There's a lot of weird circumstantial evidence of something shady going on with MagicAmy. I love how people HAVE to bring gender into it while ignoring all the weird things going on instead. I guess that's just the world we live in. If she was a dude with all this evidence she'd be crucified in minutes, yet now we have a "it's just some sexist witchhunt" outcry instead. Hosty got destroyed in quicker time based on a fucking blurry reflection in a frame. If it were a dude this wouldn't be an issue in the first place. The primary premise of the accusation is that either one or a group of people are using a girl (whom has been seen, both face to face and in an online tourney before) as a front to get into the Heathstone pro community and somehow scam people (completely contingent on the fact MagicAmy would be both a girl AND a pro HS player). Typically, the accusation is that a 23 y/o Canadian dude living in Korea is the one who plays for and writes all the stuff for MagicAmy, and the girl the face/front. If true, then the accusation speaks for itself. The entire premise is ridiculous if MagicAmy was MagicAndy for instance, because why the fuck do you need someone else to play for you when that guy who consistently finished high legend could play for himself...? If false then...well, also self-evident. This accusation wouldn't have ignited a firestorm if MagicAmy was MagicAndy, and raises again the question of women in video game communities and eSports. Either way, it highlights the curious role women have in video gaming communities. With Hosty at least there was much more concrete evidence than the mounds of circumstantial evidence that reddit witch-hunting has produced. You saw him in stream chat and you could clearly see the stream open in a mirror he stupidly had in the back. On February 19 2015 06:59 Scip wrote: Ofc Trump didn't lose to a girl, girls are bad at games Well, sarcasm aside that's part of it. The other is that MagicAmy climbed so quickly in the pro-scene despite not having an offline tourney appearance solely by starting out as Kolento's #1 fan in twitch chat and...yeah.

If we really want to talk about sexism than we could go into detail about how a player that has almost no marketability is quickly snatched up by a professional hearthstone team purely off winning one online tournament. I doubt this would ever have happened to a male. Firebat on stream yesterday was talking about how he only joined Archon because they were the only people that wanted him, the guy that's now ranked second only to Strifecro and won Blizzcon. So yes there is sexism. The majority of other hearthstone professionals all either have to stream constantly or appear in these offline events to be picked up. MagicAmy completely bypassed all this by being a woman. That's sexism sure I agree with you there, I don't see how the current drama is sexism though

The accusation is that there are at least 2 people linked to the persona of MagicAmy and thus it's one cannot say which of the 2 is playing as MagicAmy or if they both are or if there are even more playing. One of those 2 being a woman really doesn't matter at this stage. Who are you to say that if it was MagicAndy nothing would happen? That's just pure speculation. If there was mutiple people found to be using the a male persona I highly doubt there wouldn't be a similar outcry. It's just it would be a lot more cut and dry as we wouldn't have a whole horde of people screaming sexism. Does this means he ghosted? No. But does it mean he was on the stream page and in the stream chat? Yes. Can it be proven completely that he ghosted? No. Is it a strong possibility? Yes. On MagicAmy, the entire basis of the initial accusation entirely hinges on MagicAmy being a girl, it would make no sense if it weren't. A number of other divergent accusations on specifically scamming issues state they believed she was still one person. So the scamming and the "is MagicAmy multiple persons" are clearly divergent issues, though both brought up by the "scandal". On the bolded, oh I agree, besides that she had no marketability. Twitch chat always exploded when MagicAmy and most of the HS community were enamored with her prior to the current drama. Cynically speak, for being a cute Korean girl who was pro at HS. It goes both ways. In a sense, women in gaming communities are both coveted novelties and shunned/denigrated at the same time. A very curious position to be in.

Unfortunately that's the world we live in even outside of gaming. I was just shocked that Firebat still gets called terrible and how hard it was for him to find a team. Anyway don't really want to clog up OT with it so I'll drop it. Whole thing is sad to me.

Gotta be honest, I dunno if I could muster the balls to drink before skiing. I'm not scared of skiing, but it seems like something you'd want a clear mind for ![]()
