Our current plan is to have a more casual reception, so we went to a BBQ joint that also is on the list of caterers for our venue. The ribs were kinda just ok, but we wouldn't have them at a wedding (messiness, you know), but the grilled chicken, beef brisket, and pulled pork were all pretty good. They're also much cheaper than an "upscale" catering service. That sounds ok... BBQ can mean so many different things though.... I wouldn't want to have a reception in a BBQ restaurants regular dining room - maybe if outside.

Well we'd have it in the reception hall at our venue (a nice old mansion with attached Atrium), but we'd have them cater it there. Obviously we're not having our reception at a BBQ restaurant lol.

Isn't bbq normally more finger food though? That sounds potentially messy to be eating with everyone wearing suits/dresses/whatever
Then again I don't think I've ever been to a bbq restaurant, (whatever that is,) so what do I know

When you guys talk about BBQ I always think you talking about something Akin to braai's here but then I've never heard of a BBQ restaurant lol. Is it just like a steak house or something that serves mainly grilled food?

BBQ is food(meat of any variety) that's usually smoked for long hours until fork tender and then served with a spicy/sweet/tangy sauce and some sort of bread. Add your favorite comfort food (read: baked beans and mac'n'cheese) and enjoy.
