Your Warlock example is achievable by a vanilla 14th level Wizard or Cleric in core 3.5E (and probably well before then if you try). And the general rate of progression of abilities (skill modifiers/etc.) is far, far higher in 3.5E. 5E deliberately tones down this rate of increase because it gets characters doing superhuman things too fast. | ||
