I've always had the hardest time with stringing enough auto attacks in with puck. its really key to him, because he's some elder monstrosity. and also because a lot of people start null talisman on him for the auto attack advantage in lane. if you can get an auto on the opponent an then use the orb to last hit (only if it is also going to hit the enemy hero), you can usually follow up with another auto or two as they try to retreat, and you can jump to the orb if they are bad enough to get within a silence + couple autos as the orb approaches its end. get a good feel for when to phase shift:
if they are out of range of their spells and im retreating, but an auto attack is following me, dodge it, dodge disables over damage unless the damage is lethal.
puck suffers when people over use orb/silence without immediate means to regen the mana, unless you have plenty of mana, and when they overvalue phase shift and take unnecessary damage.

I have the opposite feeling. My family is scattered across the country. Some of my high school friends stayed put but many left Massachusetts. Some of my college friends stayed in New York but many also left, although I feel like for those that didn't it was partially a matter of living-with-parents economics. I myself travel a lot for my job and so meet a lot of people in a similar position.
I don't think any country could function if people were moving everywhere all the time, but I imagine that we leave home much more than the average European just because it's easier to move farther while staying in the country. Plus, it just gets easier and easier to travel... it's only fairly recently that flying in an airplane has become cheap and common (and cramped), so the legal and cultural barriers are more of an obstacle, relatively.
