The one point where I felt kind of cheated was at the very end of Pacific Rim, they made it such a big deal that only things with the exact DNA of those monsters can pass through, so when our main hero grabbed onto one of the monsters and flew through the portal with him into the alien world, I was so sure he was taking a 1-way ticket to hell with a nuclear bomb in his pocket. Seemed like such a sad story of self sacrifice, and sacrifice in general, as the girl seemed to be dead too iirc. Then his radio could somehow reach from the alien world to the human universe (?!?!!?) and they all survived?! I was like wtf, it was supposed to be a dramatic and somewhat sad story, why do you happy end me so hard
fuck

And this is where you went wrong.

But every single thing they said and did in the movie made it look like a happy ending is completely and utterly impossible
and then they go like J/K ITS ALL OK
disappointed me

I am a big fan of plot. But then I like books so I guess my opinion on movies is invalid.

I've shared skip's feelings/experience except it was about the plot of some other movie or video game. I can't remember the name though.

Yeah, this isn't the first time I've felt cheated like this. It's way more rewarding when the movie/book/whatever doesn't shy away from sad endings when they make sense in both the universe the stories are set in and in the storyline. If Pacific Rim was all happy and Disney all throughout, I wouldn't feel cheated, but after they showed us the massacre and the horror of the monsters, you can't really say that death and destruction isn't part of the setting of the story.

Explosions and awesome looking scenes are great and all. Seeing the first Transformers movies and seeing the brilliantly made transformations scenes and see these robots brought to life the first time was amazing and I Loved the movie. Hell I saw it twice once with my friends and once with my family.

But there has to be something said for a movie that looks good and makes you think afterwards. One that came out fairly recently that I liked and made me think a bit after the movie is The Edge of Tomorrow. I recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it yet. Really cool premise based on a manga.

I enjoy action and explosions. That's all well and good, and it will keep me entertained. I might even love them to death and watch/read them repeatedly. But rarely, if ever, will they make it into my favorite stories. The sort of thing that lives on with you comes from a plot, and those are the ones that I hold near and dear to my heart.

And that's why the Original Trilogy is flawless and the best ever. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either misinformed or a heretic.

At least 90% of the people that watch Pacific Rim and didn't like it all centered around the same point: They didn't know what they were watching. Did it fall into the "giant monster" genre traps and tropes? Yes. Were all the character back stories massively cliche and tied up too well? Yes. Was the happy ended forced? Yes. Was that all intended? Yes.

Pacific Rim is supposed to be a love letter to the genre, not a reforging of the giant monster wheel. It's supposed to be more of the old because, unless I missed a big western release was the 1998 Godzilla(does Cloverfield count? I know it has a big monster, but I've never seen it cause hur dur blair witch camera syndrome.) It's supposed to bring back the good feelings of the old in a slightly shinier package.

Not to say that Pacific Rim is objectively a "good" movie, just that people who don't know what they are watching it for can't appreciate it.

The Triplets screen time lasted approximately three minutes.

Sums up a bunch of the movie for me. When it's (partly) about the robots and monsters, why don't you give more exposure to the designs you did? T_T

The scene I remember most is the deployment, because Cherno Alpha looked pretty darn cool in its appearing shot, with the low-angle camera and the color scheme that gives it that hulking, massive appearance. Obviously between its name, its nationality and the design it's a bit corny, but if you forget about that the outline of the robot is memorable.
And then we barely get to see them.

Another thing I liked in the fights choregraphy was how deliberately "slow/ample" the movements were, because these things are pretty massive, and the shots of the pilots maneuvering. There was something nifty to seeing them repeat the same moves in unisson like that, from an aesthetic standpoint.
Cant take LMS hipsters serious.

There various changes of the original lord of the rings movies more or less completely butchered the plot in several places. For example, one of the main themes of the return of the king was completely butchered by the decision to make the battle of pelennor fields a completely irrelevant battle in which the fact that the armies of the west fought at all was a waste of men. It completely gutted the unification of the west under a single banner and the actual "Return of the King".
When in doubt, just believe in yourself and press buttons

The battle of the pelennor fields in the movies really made me frowney face.

I'm gonna be at Battle of Five Armies on midnight release night btw.

If anybody in the SF area wanted to come with, we could make it a thing.

Hi I'm Frudgey.

I heard that this is where the cool people hang out. I was hoping we could discuss things like Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer 40k, Pokemon, and other things and in general just be awesome.
