It deals with so many deck archetypes for Ramp, it's ridic. Every Ramp deck will include one, I guarantee it.

Warrior: He has a lot of trouble, that's why I specifically mentioned that Tree of Life is great vs Warrior. But it isn't such a stretch to say that he responds by hitting you in the face with Alex and dropping Ysera or Ragnaros, putting you back in Grommash range right away.
Freeze Mage is boned if you kill Alex with 0 mana and heal to full, sure.
What does Malorne have to do with this?
Miracle: Malygos Conceal. Faceless Manipulator. Sinister Strike x2 + Eviscerate for 40 damage. 
So it's a great tech card vs Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Mage. IMO it's not very useful vs Warlock, Paladin (lol), Priest, Shaman or other Druids.

If you reach fatigue wars (not uncommon vs Paladin and Priest control), Malone becomes ridiculous if they can't silence it or control it. Ramp already includes an insane amount of high threat minions, all of which are silenceable and hard removable.
If you reach fatigue, their only recourse is to kill you before Malone value reaches insane levels (since you'll never fatigue with Malone constantly reviving). Tree of Life prevents it.
Malygod does not run Faceless, they never have. Rogue has to spend alot of removals generally on controlling your board, and Taunts stop the Southsea Deckhand variant which does.
The biggest challenge in that matchup is Malygos-backstabs-Prep-Fan of Knives/Blade Flurries removing your board. That still predicates itself on Miracle surviving to turn 10 against a Ramp Druid and not burning a shitton of removal, though. Or you not playing Loatheb to cockblock them.
Also, it's fantastic against other druids, wtf. Definitively puts you out of Savage Roar/FoN range. And even FoN-Savage Roar-Innervate=Savage Roar range. Token Druid doesn't have the capability of beating out Ramp if the game goes too long. Too many big threats. You also beat out Priests and Paladins in fatigue war if you play it right.
If you have the opportunity to play it vs Zoolock, they lose if you've properly contested the board with Keepers etc. like you should (always mulligan for keepers vs Warlock, useful against both Handlock and Zoolock).
The only deck I can't really think of a use for is against handlock, but that's a difficult matchup for Ramp already and generally requires you to have loads of tech cards/BGHs to deal with anyways.

These situations go in circles and help no one, but the matter of the fact is that the spell in conjunction with the other druid cards at the moment is simply back breaking. In a game where creature control and presence matter so much, yes taking a turn off to cast a 9 mana restart the game is probably not the best idea. However, by the time the druid has 9 mana 1 of 2 things has happened.
He has either died because he's playing against an agressive deck who is bent on killing him by turn 5.

He has complete and total control of the board due to how stricktly more efficient his cards are compared to his counterparts.
Saying the card is bad is short sighted and only someone who thinks they understand card games would say this. This still stands for reynad.

You really need another strong card to play that turn, or an extremely strong card to play the next, for Grove Tender to be a good play. If you're just going to Shapeshift or something you're handing your opponent a tempo advantage.

Alternately Wild Growth into Tender-Innervate-Keeper. Take that aggro.

Basically as I see it Tree of Life is an answer to a problem Ramp Druid doesn't have. If you already have board control in those match-ups then you don't need this card, Healing Touch or AoL heal is plenty. If you don't have board control this won't save you. It is good in a few match-ups, but these weren't real weaknesses for Ramp anyway. Running this card will lower your winrate against Zoo and Token Druid because it is a dead card until you're dead.
It's very similar to my dislike of Lay on Hands.

People seem heads over heels about that Troll legendary that spawns 3/5s whenever your opponent casts a spell (which in turn gain +2 attack everytime you cast a spell too). Gotta admit Priest doesn't give a damn but Mage (especially Freeze) and Rogue would cry rivers.
Then again Rogue will cry rivers regardless. Wtf they only get two good cards out of all this and right when spare parts could help combos Auctioneer just gets nerfed hard.
