CakePHP is a steaming pile of dong. My predecessors made really specific code that's going to be hard to adapt. I can't specify the order of joints in cake (the nested joints feature is bugged and doesn't seem to work too) and I can't combine manual joints with automated model joints, so I have to redo the queries with manual, dirty joins, including the parts that were automated. I feel like throwing my computer through the window and running out of the office now. There's no way I can end this in time.

Basically, there were two RNGs, one used for out-of-combat stuff like world map encounters, and the other used for in-combat stuff like enemy attack decisions and item drops. the combat RNG was affected by your choice of actions in combat, and the enemy choice of actions in combat. (so for instance, if you used a Djinn ability it would add 4 to the RNG, iirc). That was it - not even really a real RNG. The only "randomness" came from the player's decisions. That's all sane so far, if a little bit unusual. However, for whatever reason, the value resets to 0 every time you power off the system. This means that you can manipulate the results of the first combat each time you turn on the system. This was first noticed against Deadbeard in the first game, where i imagine a lot of people reset the system a few times, and started to notice that each time, he'd do the same starting move... and if you did the same moves each time too, the pattern would continue. This naturally gives a slight advantage against him. That was useful, but nowhere near as abusable as the other thing people found out: you could use this to guarantee even the rarest item drops. The method is moderately complicated, but basically people figured out how much each category of player and enemy action added to the RNG, then figured out what RNG numbers would cause the item to drop, so as long as you can do the addition you can force whatever drops you want.

Yup I remember using this.

Like, I get it, I understand the tradition behind it and reasonings and whatever, but jesus fuck that's a lot of money. I really hope whatever girl I hopefully end up finding some day understands that it's an absurd waste of money. lol yup I mean it's a choice obviously but I'm of your opinion. In relation to my income at the time I want to say it was... a week or two salary. I was still in college when I proposed too though.
