Then again maybe it is supposed to be your standard blockbuster with a franchise name attached to it, I dunno. What else would it be, an adventurous story of a hero who dreams of making the world a better place, just like his father did, with the themes of coming of age and personal growth, friendship, love, discovery, struggle against evil, temptation and redemption? Fuck no, this is a movie by J J ABRAMS. Get ready for explosions and lens flare and less fucking plot than wave's darksouls stream

It should look pretty much just like modern fencing, pretty much a game of tag, because it destroys whatever it touches, all these sweeping wide arc powerful motions are fucking wasted. And even when they had more weight in eps 4-6 and were more top heavy I'd have preferred them to have longer handles for more leverage. Meh, overall the idea of lightsaber sucks dick and should be removed or kept in only as a personal (somewhat) concealable self-defense weapon instead of this HURR MAIN THING JEDI USE IN BATTLE DURR bullshit. If I was a Jedi I'd use my amazing force occular powers to snipe people with handguns, good luck blockign that shit with your lightsaber bullshit, melting the bullet before it blows your brains out's not gonna help you from wookieepedia it states " Due to the weightlessness of plasma and the strong gyroscopic effect generated by it, lightsabers required a great deal of strength and dexterity to wield, and it was extremely difficult—and dangerous—for the untrained to attempt using. " that might explain the usage of wide swings.

I dunno, there was a whole storyline to weave about that door on Scip's. It was a tale of perseverance... or lack thereof.

1. Even the most powerful of Jedi don't have clear sight of the future. At best glimpses and even then rather or not it'll happen or not is ever changing.
2. Not every jedi is strong with telekinesis, prime example Corran Horn couldn't move a small boulder to save his life. Of course he had other talents..
3. The Jedi are not enforcers nor are they politicians. They are a peaceful order that's dragged into conflict often rather they like it or not. When given the ability a Jedi won't go swinging lightsaber he'll sit down and try to work out a resolution without violence. Now I have plenty of issues with the old jedi order but them being essentially space police is just incorrect. If anything they are like an actually effective UN peacekeeping unit.
4th and most damn important. Lightsabers are awesome, I don't have to defend them because they speak for themselves on the level of badass. You can mock the prequel choreography all you want(thou you know RLM kinda pointed it out for everyone) but don't you dare speak ill of the Shii-Cho forms. Now you stop badmouthing lightsabers before things get grizzly Scip.
Oh, the trailer was okay. Lightsaber's in theory and in the cannon could work as it was shown(variable blade lengths are indeed a thing) but I have a sinking feeling it's just going to be used for either "it's cool" to "dramatic parry action shot" rather then any practical use.

Anyone involved Ancient Sith is always really cool. Pity the modern sith are so bland and shit.

UN Peacekeeping unit is pretty much what you'd call the world police, isn't it? Police isn't supposed to be bunch of warmongering fucks hungry for power and oil. So I'd say my usage of the universe police there wasn't incorrect. working out resolution without violence is what you call diplomacy, which I was daring enough to include in the word "politics" so please father son and the holy ghost forgive me my sins. Lightsabers are dumb, impractical and absolutely not cool (in fact they are rather hot)
What's the thing about the gyroscopic effect being strong in lightsabers? Like it has things spinning inside it? Why would it be harder to handle something with a weightless blade? Me no understanderino

Mmm, near the end the new sith was starting to actually look like a real threat again in the EU. But yeah, this is what happens when you put in the rule of two. Sith Empires are just much more threatening when you actually have an Empire of Dark Force users..
I respect your opinion Scip, even if it's dumb.

Lulz. I'm glad you know the plotline and writing of the movie 100% after a super short teaser with 1 line of dialogue.
Also you're going mega nostalgia mode here as well. Star Wars original trilogy is amazing, but you're giving it A LOT more credit in the 'deep theme' department than it actually deserves.
Also #2, being a blockbuster doesn't immediately mean a movie has to be Michael Bay's Transformers.

lol at work I was "randomly selected" to help decorate the Christmas tree. Plight of the white man.

It's not going mega nostalgia, these are themes that appear somewhere in the 7 hours of trilogy, jesus would it be bland if I couldn't list 8 different basic themes/plotlines/whatever in 7 hours of movie time. I for one am not really a fan of the original trilogy, but that doesn't mean it didn't have plot and decent characters and stuff.
I'm just saying I wouldn't expect anything to make sense when it's coming from J. J. Abrams. I mean fuck, he's one of the creators of the live action series Fringe.
Also, übermensch hidden in rockets.

Well J. J. Abrams did turn Star Trek into a mindless action flick. Maybe that means he'll take the mindless action version of Star Trek and make it into a thought provoking show. Talk about that role reversal.

I will admit, I liked the 1st season, when it was Olivia working on strange cases and dealing with her mental issues and stuff then they moved into the pattern thing that was kinda yay kinda nay. Exploring who the fuck William Bell is and why they and Walter Bishop are dicks was interesting. and then they went full retard alternate universe time travel peter jesus saves everyone from the past from the future. Also grieving grandma threatens to destroy the universe.

Also grieving grandma threatens to destroy the universe. Yeah the latter seasons were lacking for sure, but at least there was an attempt to be consistent and explain things, unlike LOST.
I also think they dropped some MASSIVE potential where there was that episode that Walter Bishop reattached/regrew the 'lost' parts of his brain so he started to become a sadistic fuck all over again---like John's Noble's acting throughout that series was phenomenal but the transitions from 'bumbling cheerful Walter' into 'mad scientist I-don't-give-a-fuck' Walter were chilling. (And I'm not talking about alternate universe Walter). They should have made THATg a thing and let Noble express that side of his acting chops and devoted a few episodes to what havoc he could have created. Hell, could have been a whole season.
