The only reason why new champs seem to see comparatively more play is because all the old champs have been nerfed in one way or another.
I haven't researched it or anything, but 'old' champions being picked or even currently/recently OP doesn't refute power creep. If they were buffed to have numbers that exceed their original states(presumably to match the current 'level' of the game) then that's power creep. It'd be really easy to look into, go check pre-season and beta numbers for nuke damages and ratios and whatnot, and compare them to today.
There's also 100%, definitely happening things, like mobility creep, and mana cost+cooldown reductions on tons of skills and ultimates. A lot(most?) items are just flat out better now than they were all those years ago too.
Power creep isn't about outliers, it's about the averages. Otherwise it'd be easy just to say "lol beta TF and Corki and Fiddle strongest things ever in the game power creep is a myth."
Edit: Also that last line is just dumb. All the old champs have also all been buffed in some way or another too. Because they're old.

You're missing the point. It makes zero fucking sense to compare trends of hero design when one game isn't even released and has been in "technical alpha" for like 8 months, while the other has been out for more than 5 years. You're talking about a completely different timescale when you're talking "old" and "new" heroes in both games, and it's retarded to think that your comparisons over those differing timescales hold any sort of value whatsoever.

That's the only word from my people.
It's very TF2 feeling from what they said, lots of the same map type. Some heroes also seem to have double jump built in (all the "offensive" labeled heroes.)
