Games call it A. Second game calls something else C Third game calls A, C.

Orbwalking is a term borrowed from a specific game to mean something different in league. it'd be like calling every time you get hit by a skillshot being "fragged". Except it's not that confusing because the League community consistently uses the term orbwalking and knows exactly what they mean by it.
Like, I agree the origin is kinda fucked, but the LoL community has just adopted orbwalking to mean stutter stepping and the only people I see complain about it are people that also play Dota, not people that just play LoL.

There's also a descriptive easy to understand term instead of "fragged", it's called "rekt"
also nobody ever says orbwalking that's a term from some shitty game nobody plays

well, I don't know about "misuse", but it is more confusing when you have a same word for different things in different games calling it orbwalking in LoL and stutterstepping in SC2 isn't very confusing orbwalking meaning what it does in LoL and having a somewhat different meaning in Dota can be

They probably don't and that's exactly why it doesn't matter to them and thus isn't confusing!

And you don't see how that's circular logic?
This isn't confusing, because people who aren't confused by it, aren't confused by it.
Similarly how many people do you think know that Nashor is just Roshan backwards from dota and probably an even smaller group even know that Roshan and thus Nashor was named after a bowling ball? or that person getting a rampage means much different things between dota and league of legends.

It's not circular logic, it's me saying that since it's not confusing to the players that it's totally fine it's been adopted to mean something different in LoL. But clearly you disagree so this debate isn't going anywhere, I'll drop it.

I never noticed Nashor was Roshan backwards. I can never look at League the same ever again.

TBH if you're going to use a term that had its meaning corrupted going from DotA to League, try "melee carry".
lol

So, asking from teh perspective of a scrub in LoL who's never played DoTA, whats the differences between a "melee carry" in DoTA vs. a fed Yi/Trynd/Jax whom I'd classify as a melee carry then?
Then again, I've noticed hard carries in DoTA can legit 1v5 carry vs. fed LoL ADC's who still need help from team.

Can confirm. Atleast when I played DotA years ago, melee carry Heros like Spectre were the tankiest in the game.

Melee carries are bruisers. The league community just has these huge misconceptions around the term melee carry that's warped the term into meaning something else.

Then again, I've noticed hard carries in DoTA can legit 1v5 carry vs. fed LoL ADC's who still need help from team. A lot of people playing LoL associate the concept of melee carry specifically with only glass-cannon 5-damage-item melee DPS heroes (analogous to ranged carries) when in fact such a hero is rare in both games.
The broad concept of melee carry as it exists in DotA applies more generally to the class of heroes typically referred to as "bruisers" in LoL, which is conceptually realistic, and common in both games.
EDIT: Also, the problem with the term "orb-walking" as it's used by the LoL community actually has nothing to do with the term's root in DotA terminology. Rather, it's the fact that the proper term "animation canceling" is still used when referring to cancelling the backswing on spells. So now you have two different terms ("orb-walking" for autoattacks, and "animation canceling" for spells) that refer to the same physical action when there's no real need for the distinction at all.
