I think the fun part about die rolls is the randomness they generate, just like the random dungeons and encounters of rogue-like games. But RPing is fun too... which is why a stunt system like Exalted's is awesome (not that Exalted's is the best) , because it encourages you to work for that roll (whether social or combat), gives you feedback as to how good your RPing was, but also doesn't let you fall flat on your face if, well, you're not a great writer. And I'm willing to bet that I am not a great writer. | ||

When I played DnD with some friends the DM just let us roleplay as ourselves more or less when it came to decisions and whatever, we were pretty loose with the rules in that regard | ||
