EPTBut when I do tabletop, I'm much more into the playing a character aspect and less into the die rolling and stuff. A D&D session where there's never any combat at all = super awesome.

I've played a lot of D&D in my day. It's fun. Other games are also fun. I have a pretty big hardon for 2nd ed though. | ||

In the same way, you have to play a character whose internal motivations are at least somewhat self-consistent, and alignment acts as a way to approximate that without being as numerically specific as ability scores are because it has less real gameplay impact. | ||

Playing a stupid character is extremely difficult. It seems like it would be goofy fun (and it can be) but doing it in a serious, accurate way is very hard. Charisma is an even worse offender IMO, but for a lot of the same reasons. For me though it's like, lets say we have a situation where the player is trying to convince an NPC of something. You can either A - Do a charisma/intelligence check or whatever. Or B - Actually play out trying to convince them. B is just way more fun IMO, and when you go the B route, the die rolls (and therefor the Charisma/Intelligence stats) stop being very relevant. | ||
