I dunno, considering how many people are getting and keeping fit, that may not be true.
I will powered myself not to play a huge game of mafia recently so I'm feeling OK about that. Won't buy a 3DS cause I just borrow from my brother after he finishes whatever games he gets.
Now I gotta willpower myself to play less at night and study more (and go to sleep earlier)

The point was that Nintendo is coming out with a new software line version of the DS far too quickly.
Gameboy timeline for systems that shipped worldwide:
Gamboy- 1989
Gameboy Pocket- 1996
Gameboy Color- 1998
Gameboy Advance- 2001
Gameboy Advance SP- 2003
Gameboy Micro- 2005
Now, we can go from 1989-2000 and play almost all the games, 11 years. Some required a gameboy color, but it was hardly ever a dominant trend. Despite the DS coming out in 2004, the last GBA game came out in 2008, giving it a 7 year span.
DS timeline:
2004- Nintendo DS
2006- Nintendo DS Lite
2008- Nintendo DSi
2009- Nintendo DSi XL
2011- Nintendo 3DS
2012- Nintendo 3DS XL
2013- Nintendo 2DS
2014- New Nintendo 3DS & XL
There are some games you can only get on a DSi thought DSiWare, but if we consider them like the GB color only games and ignore them as a dividing mark the original DS run of 7 years, matching the GBA. The 3DS will only have a run of 3 years, with the NN3DS coming out late this year.
I was disappointed knowing that I had to buy a 3ds to play X/Y, since pokemon makes up the vast majority of my handheld play. I was hoping to get at least 2 generations out of it. Now I wouldn't be surprised if, in the next few years I would have to get a new handheld for 7th gen.

Well that is bullshit. I got my 3DSXL last year for the exclusive Pokemans. That is just a money grab if they make the new smash new console only.

It's not console only - I have the demo for 2011 3ds, works fine. The system itself is a bit small for smash I suppose, but I think it's just a bit awkward cuz I'm not used to having to push buttons quickly on handheld

I actually liked how Sm4sh felt on a handheld. Was pretty fluid, only thing I couldn't get down were the triggers.

Yeah, the sudden semi-exclusivity of the New 3DS is highly frustrating. I wish they just made the thing to last.
Admittedly, I should have this problem with Apple too, but I don't get a discount on consoles every two years with my phone plan.
