I was always more of an Armored Core guy, but Mechwarrior was fun too. So I played some more LoL last night and I'm starting to remember part of the reason I stopped. It's very fun, and playing with friends is a hoot, but there seems to be a lot of feelings of helplessness. Note, this isn't a QQ rant, just general observation and comparison. In Smite, I never feel like I'm completely useless at any point. Unless I horridly fuck up in lane or someone feeds my lane opponent, I never feel like a lane or game is unwinnable. I can always push, I can always dodge, etc. But there's a lot of feelings of helplessness when I play certain LoL characters. I don't want to say "hard counters", but there's a lot of times where I just have the feeling of "welp I better just sit under my turret and hope they don't dive me". That's not entirely a bad thing, it of course comes up as the character pool gets bigger and bigger, and it puts more of an emphasis on picks. But I can't say it's particularly fun when your only plan of play is to try and last hit under tower and hope they don't get too out of control. Maybe I just pick characters that aren't good at laning or get countered easily, but I've never had that happen in Smite unless I pick Arachne.

You might not experience it as much because you play mostly Ao Kuang, who doesn't lose anything unless you're retarded. However, it's VERY prevalent in the early duo lane when duo is on the right (I can never remember which team is which). The duo that gets there later because of mid camps is at a very large pushing disadvantage for the first few minutes, and you have to be really careful because of how much minions hurt. There isn't as much fear of getting dived constantly until mid game, but you lose a LOT of money to the tower if you can't counter push it or fall behind somehow.

Well that also has a lot to do with Art being retarded as shit. There are a lot of Duo lane matchups where that one sidedness isn't as prevalent.

Art being as strong as she is isn't the reason for it. It applies for every single ADC except maybe Xbal. It happens because the left side duo gets to lane earlier since they only have to do blue instead of mid harpies + blue, and so they get the pushing momentum really easily. It's very hard to counter this momentum without outside assistance just because once they get one wave pushed it's far easier to keep that pressure up than it is to stop that pressure. And fwiw, Neith does pretty damn well against Artemis.

Mid camps are REALLY important. It's not that you necessarily have to take the mid camp, but someone does. The way it generally works out now is that your mid and adc do the right mid camps, the enemy mid and solo do the left mid camps. During this, your support starts the right duo blue and the adc comes and kills the blue buff. As a result, the enemy duo has gotten into lane and gotten a head start on the push. They are ahead of your support in xp, while your ad is slightly ahead of them. Wrestling control back is very delicate because minions hit HARD, and they will likely be able to get a head start on pushing the next wave while it's close to your tower (most of the time there's nothing to fear this early on, the junglers are on the other side of the map) rather than the lane getting set back to neutral. Because of this, assuming no one makes any glaring mistakes, the right duo is usually at a disadvantage until they can clear the lane quickly and safely enough.

The way the "normal" meta is, is that the mid laner and ADC on Chaos side kill their right mid camps, while the Support kills/starts Blue so the ADC can get it as soon as they get to lane. If they don't do mid camps and just Blue like Order side, then Mid can't take mid camps by himself and is behind, while Order can conceivably pick up both mid camps early and get very ahead. I don't play duo lane a lot but even when I do I don't feel like it's too big of a difference in time depending on who your Support is. When I play Ymir, I can drop blue before the ADC even finishes mids and gets over, so we can usually even out the lane. I agree that duo is the lane where there is more of a disparity than others, but I don't play it enough to speak one way or another. But when I play Chaos side I've never felt like our ADC was so far behind that they couldn't win lane, unless it was a bad matchup already.
