There's the Bob Marley song "I Shot the Sheriff", also covered by Eric Clapton. That's what that line made me think of; I'm pretty sure it's a reference.

I am the law is probably a reference to Judge Dredd, but she didn't say it in any way like that so it's kind of unclear if that's what they were going for. Referencing Bob Marley is also kind of obscure for the LoL crowd. Meh, IDK.

"I shot the sheriff" is a pretty well known song and is no more obscure than referencing Tom and Jerry.

Really? Because I've never met a person that didn't know Tom and Jerry but in all my life I've also never heard anyone specifically mention "I shot the sheriff" until now (though I have encountered other songs of his). Tom and Jerry in quotes generates more than 12x the google hits than the song title. Obviously google and my experience don't prove anything but they certainly make me skeptical of your statement.

Oh. Since the lyrics mention "noone shoots the sheriff" I'd never have made the connection with that song by myself.
