Outside of Reynor, any other foreigner has confirmed to play GSL S2?
|
Whoa, already?? Even though current GSL is still happening?
|
Thought they planned the 2nd GSL to be at the end of the year? Feels like they pushed it forward to get it done before EWC?

If GSL continues (hopefully that rumor was wrong!)
Hope Rogue makes it, he'll probably take some time to be great again but he's smart (and cheesy) enough to squeak into ro16.

Thing is: That 2nd GSL would be kind of pointless, since it will not award slots for a Masters event or even a direct invite to the EWC. So it mostly just gives out extra points for the korean circuit?

No, Season 2 was always scheduled for the summer and before ESWC, with Season 3 being a TBD.

The qualifier might be a bit too early for him. That'd be 3 weeks between the end of his military service and the qualifier - would be impressive if he reached that level in this short amount of time, imo. His games vs. Classic were pretty good, but his lategame wasn't too impressive.

He has a decent chance of making it because there's almost exactly 16 Code S level players in Korea right now fighting for 16 spots.
Everyone who 'should' qualify actually did qualify in the season 1 qualifier, with TY and Rex being the two players who finished 17-18th. There's essentially no meaningful competition in the Code S qualifiers anymore unless a military returnee returns to full-time play or a high-level foreigner decides to compete.
The addition of Reynor and Rogue (and possibly some Chinese players?) will make it slightly more competitive this time around because it will be 18-ish Code S caliber players playing for 16 spots. So Rogue will prolly be fighting it out with NightMare, soO, and Ryung for one of the last spots, which seems doable.

Will parting play?

Close one for Rogue. Reynor through without dropping a map.
Elimination games for Nice/ Classic and Bunny/ Ryung
|
Nice is the first notable player to drop out. Not very surprising tbh.
|
I confused S1 and S2 on Liquipedia and was dissappointed again with the qualifier (16 going through, five not qualifying or something like that) until I noticed my mistake. Great idea to reduce the 2nd Round to groups of 4. Feels much more like an actual qualifier instead of a "who even shows up"-gallore.
|
Bunny out and Classic out!
|
Do we know when is the group Nomination?
Btw, good roster for Zerg, now they just need to hire someone go hurt Maru shoulder and spkie herO drink.
|
Rogue coming back from the military and Reynor traveling to KR made the qualifier way more competitive than last seasons
|
Zerg winning GSL look promising with Rogue's return and Reynor playing. Also looks like soO joined DKZ? That's very cool of the team to support him.
|
So final tally for Season 2, we'll have 4 Protoss, 5 Terran and 7 Zergs. Ryung, Bunny, and Classic failed to qualify while Reynor, TY and Rogue take their place.
|
I might have preferred Classic over SHIN (sorry bud) but the rest looks pretty good!
|
Classic not qualifying given his recent successes is kinda unfortunate, but naturally very excited to see how Reynor does this season or how Rogue's form is upon his return.
|
The frustrating consistency of Creator and Nightmare to continue to ALWAYS qualify, but fail to be a factor at all past the first group stage is made all the more puzzling when guys like Classic can't seem to qualify as consistently but is usually an actual threat deeper in the tournaments.
|
Wow quite the day for Zergs. All the doom and gloom about this map pool being terrible for Zerg looks pretty silly now.
|
strong overall performance for Z, and Reynor, TY and - especially - Rogue being back will make that season really enjoyable. Can't wait !

Bummed for no Ryung, but plenty of talent to make S2 solid from beginning to end!
|
I guess Rogue's only weakness now is ZvP while his ZvT looked minimally great as before. But his ZvZ has never been tested since coming back from military.
Hopefully, he get a group with a bunch of Terran and Zerg players.

I want a 4 Z meme group that Dark somehow gets started by talking shit in the group selection. Then 1 Zerg in each of the other groups.

Sad to see no Classic or Bunnyjwa
I don't think Rogue can win yet, but I hope he at least manages to ruin a few strong players' days with dirty dirty cheeses.
|
I'm really glad TY made it. Hoping we might be able to see some TvP Mech especially on these new maps! Not as likely with the Cyclone being nerfed, but maybe he can still make use of it.

Damn I'm surprised Classic didn't make it. But dang I'm surprised that he didn't make it but Creator did. As a Creator fan I'm very pleased haha. Hoping he can make another deep run, he was so close to Ro4 and possibly taking it all 2 GSLs ago considering he'd only have to fight like Gumi and Solar, who he beat roughly half the time. Grats to Creator for beating SHIN 2-0 twice, he's been losing to SHIN and DRG a bit too much in recent ESL cups for how good his PvZ used to look.
Sad sOs didn't make it, if he even tried. Oh it seems he didn't even try to qualify, sad. Maybe he's really retired then
Congrats to DRG and wow soO for making it again! Nice to have old school champs in for 1 of the very final GSLs. Poor Bunny and Ryung, but I never enjoyed watching them much (in LotV anyway, i loved Ryung in GomTvT era).
We have a very nice spread of players and races this time!

Oh really? Why would they play the qualifiers on old maps that's bizarre. I'll reserve judgement on whether Zergs are overreacting to the new maps then.
