PiGFEST 3.0 IS HERE!
The lineup for PiGFest 3.0 is STACKED! With the sad news of Blizzard no longer funding StarCraft 2 esports, we decided to host PiGFest much earlier than usual this year. Thank you to everyone in the community who has already donated to the prize pool - the generosity has pushed the prize pool to $10,000!
SUPPORT THE TOURNAMENT!
100% of donations to https://streamlabs.com/x5_pig/tip go to the prize pool for PiGFest tournaments. This will be left open until the end of the tournament. PiG is putting up $1,000 himself. The community has already raised $5,000! over $12,000!
Edit:
The prize pool has been capped at $10,000(!) to ensure this tournament is not overfunded and all donations over that amount are going directly to PiGFest 4.0 which will be around July-October! We seriously did not think we'd get this level of donations!
PRO TOURNAMENT DETAILS
Format: Single elimination bracket held over 5 days. Ro16 and Ro8 will be best of 5. Ro4 and Grand Final will be best of 7.
Schedule: March 15-19 2023, starting at 10am CEST / 8pm AEDT each day. The first four days will each have two ro16 matches, with the winners facing each other in the ro8 on the same day - making it like a mini 4-player tournament to see who goes through to the Semifinals.

Prize Pool:
1st = $3500
2nd = $1700
3rd/4th = $800
5th-8th = $400
9th-16th = $200
Total = $10,000USD

I disagree, an online tournament like this best keep it super simple. I'm very excited that the ro4 are bo7's and the ro16 bo5's. Should give us some incredible series!

Same thing for everybody from the EU region, so I don't see this as a big issue. The only timezone problem would happen if a player based from the Americas had been invited (Vindicta, Neeb, etc)

Very exciting, and I am happy about the format! I like the big group stages but it is nice to have some that are just single elimination, and the fact that ro16/ro8 are best of 5 means we'll be getting some deep dives into each match!

Hopefully the percentages increase evenly, and the tournament gains more money. With first place taking 40% of total pool.
Thanks PiG for stepping up, I hope others are inspired to do so. Donating or running your own small tournament is a good thing to do

When we came up with the format we thought the prize pool would get to maybe $5k or so like previous PiGFests. NEVER did we think it would get this high. Unbelievably we had a $5k donation from Crate Entertainment (who made Grim Dawn) as they wanted to see SC2 esports continue to flourish! They didn't even ask for anything in return like promotions for their games, but feel free to give them some love https://twitter.com/CrateEnt
There isn't enough time to rejig the tournament format so we are capping the prize pool for PiGFest 3.0 at $10k AND all dollars over that amount will go to PiGFest 4.0 which will be held between July to October. We plan on doing qualifiers next time in addition to direct invites.

Thanks so much PiG + donators for all of this. 13 years of essentially free entertainment of the highest possible quality and enjoyment for me. Last time I paid was via paypal to GRETECH Corp for GOMTV premium in 2013. I am very keen and enthusiastic to start paying for this entertainment again to help it to continue! Hearing him pouring his heart about the sadness and suffering from that match was something else we have not heard before. But you gotta grow from that pain in other to move on and hopefully get better. And no, I am still not "forgiving" him for that Final series in IEM, it was a travesty he did on himself and us fan.

That final interview at the PiG stream broke my heart.. Poor Maru. It will haunt him forever. But he should do as Dark, and let the rage empower him even more.

His TvT was never broken in term of skill or mechanics, its all in his head. He picked a bad build, lost and repeat the same build twice over without any scouting or anything. Its like the time he lost to Rogue in the GSL Final, Rogue went Roach and Maru was acting like he never heard of it before.

The grand final was weird but he also lost to Heromarine and then went 1-1 vs Spirit in WTL. He's obviously still the best TvT but not quite on the nigh untouchable level he was previously. Hoping he'll prove he's back to untouchable vs the winner of Cure/Byun (don't have much faith in Reynor in this type of event) and then Clem in the finals.

TvP was always said to be terran favored after the patch and in TvZ the creep nerf and battle mech buffs seem to be more significant than initially thought.
Zerg got a lot better in lategame but that doesn't matter when they can't get to lategame

Ghost change is by far the most impactful one out of them so Zerg is definitely better in lategame than last patch

its deserving though, he played a poor opening over and over again and get hard countered in the end. Plus hes keep pulling SCV rather than playing from behind into lategame.
I will say this again, Maru NEED a coach to talk to him on how to approach these finals games, its very bad to not mixing up builds in the series and assume that you are good enough to win with poor strategy.

I think he underestimated Maxpax. Was really apparent in the game where he got really far ahead by killing 7 Phoenixes for free and then threw it away with repeated overly aggressive attacks into defensive Protoss positions.

The same thing happened in IEM, seems like he got tilted by losing, so he decide to do the same damn thing again just to prove that his build is good enough. I do think pvt is running into a problem tho where the best way to play is doing 4g blink and then its 50/50 depending hon how good the trrran handles it, as recent series/games i saw suggest that more defensive/other strats are more on the weaker side or just figured out and terrans manage to just win in these games (if they dont fuck up massively).

I agree with this. I think Protoss had a similar dynamic against Zerg during the glaives era where they can force a 40/60 game for the protoss (once the zergs figured the defense out). For these reasons, protoss can always compete but it's frustrating that it's so high variance.
