Dark is a no-brainer pick, obviously, but second place will be tight between sOs and Ragnarok. While I'm a huge sOs fan, my head says Ragnarok--I think this is the GSL where he finally gets past his mental blog and we'll see him shine!

Wouldn't be the first time a GSL winner goes out in group stage, so it's not a given Dark makes it. But yes, this group is doable. Only way I see Dark going out is if he loses to Ragnarok and sOs has a godly day. I would like it if Bomber was good enough to compete, but I can only see him win against sOs if sOs plays terrible like he sometimes does.
I'm worried for sOs, Ragnarok has had a better year than him. Here's to hoping he inexplicably 4-0's the group with the most outrageous builds taken from the Great Book of Protoss Bullshit. My GSL fanfic has him taking the rich vespene as a ninja base into double storm drops.

Id like to see him build all of his buildings where they belong and thats in the opponents main.

Taken from the Great Book of Protoss Bullshit? sOs at his best adds pages if not chapters.

Too bad maps no longer have space for him to double proxy gate in their base twice in a row.
sOs could easily snipe dark in the winners match and then dark could be under threat from ragnarok in a zvz decider. I'd probably go with dark and sOs advancing but ragnarok could easily replace either player.
Dark should take this quite easily. After Dark, I'm really rooting for Bomber to advance. Great to see him back, as he was one of my favorite players, when i started following SC2.
I don't know how Bomber looks these days but he did qualify. This is a mighty tough group for him. I'd say Dark is a heavy favorite to get out first with Ragnarok and sOs being roughly equal for second. Bomber is just an unknown for me right now. If he's back in prime shape though? this could be a mighty interesting night of GSL.
Man this is not a good look for Bomber. Gets run over with an unscouted Nydus, and then gets bop'd the next game. This attack could have done nothing and Dark is still massively ahead.
Did Bomber expect Dark wants to play macro games against him? I was pretty sure something like this happens. It's what happens when Dark faces players he doesn't rate very highly.

And Dark doesn't rate anyone highly!
He played some macro games against Serral IIRC.
When did that happen?
And also this is Bomber's first gsl in ages and dark just became a gsl champion last season
Can someone explain to me why Bomber decided to pick those outdated trash builds against a very aggressive player and don't make more than 2 hellions? It sounds so obvious to me

Wasn't he washed 3-0 and 3-1 last time he met Serral?
Bomber noooo :/ hope he can rally back. while it's part of his appeal that he does the same fucking build every game, i wish he at least would pick one from the current expansion.
also, whatever bald dude's name is is pretty damn good at this casting thing.
I don't rly see sOs winning this like ever, it's already super difficult when u have the bank advanatage but rag actually has a bank and should trade way better now so rip.

Given that sOs was dead about 15 minutes ago, I wouldn't be beating myself about this loss.
While that's true the lategame fights in PvZ seriously are retarded :D
Regardless, this game didn't demonstrate that. It just demonstrated someone who was dead refusing to give up. His upgrades were behind, his unit comp was inferior, and he was down 2 bases almost the entire game. What exactly were you expecting to see happen?
E: didn't really want to get into this discussion. Mainly came to say that was a sick proxy spire. So close to getting +2 armor too.
Khaldor has improved so much with his casting, honestly, I have to admit even better than tasteless. How well he casts with Artosis is spot on perfect.

You have to stay in Korea until they run out of foreigners to cast when Tastosis isn't available.

Mmm, corruptors weren't useful at all. At least we are going to see Dark screwing up everyone in group selection! Will he manage to build a group of death for himself this time as well?

Khaldorsen or whatever his name is is really good, i particularly enjoy that he doesn't try to pretend he knows everything but rather asks Artosis the more technical questions, and good ones at that imo.
the only thing that annoys me a bit is "you're not wrong", but if that's my biggest complaint, you're not bad.

Well, the protoss so far have been very lackluster. PartinG could easily have won, but had the big throws. And sOs just isn't as good as he used to be. And that's the two toss who played so far. Now if Hurricane and Stats somehow both get knocked out vs Cure and Scarlett... that would be an indicator that there is a problem with protoss. But hinging it on these groups is a bit silly: PartinG had everything it took to win his matches, but decided to do stupid shit instead of win them. sOs is always volatile, sometimes it works, but lately it really hasn't worked often. And today was just one of those days it didn't work.

I'm not hinging it on just this group (and I suspect Vindicare isn't either). There are some problems with SC2 atm and I would like to see some changes made (not necessarily just because of balance) including changes to Protoss but we'll have to be very careful because I don't think Protoss is as OP has a lot of people think.

In before "Zerg players are just better"
I agree. Zerg seem super strong right now. The question is why. After Protoss figured out their meta it's Zergs turn now apparently.
To be realisitic, Dark and Rogue topping their groups isn't really out of the ordinary. But it is something to be watched
Mainly comes down to the mass infestor comp that seems to be the late-game meta at the moment. There seems to be no reliable way for Protoss to counter it.

Yeah, that makes sense. I agree. Warp Prism is stupid, but their late game comps need some help. Carriers vs fungals and infested terrans are useless. Either carriers or tempests can use a buff.

i would prefer blizz trying out changes that makes air units less dominant in lategame scenarios, right now it's just air unitswith some support, i'd love for air units to not be just counterable by other air units.

the only way to reduce the infes count is making tempests otherwise no version of carrier could save protoss s ass still hard as hell to win micro war and extremely unforgive but its not like protoss has another options
Are you guys serious? We have played 2 groups so far and we didn't see a top protoss yet. (while we had 2 from top 3 Zergs in Dark and Rogue) Parting could have advanced but threw away the games and sOs is just not good anymore. Wait until the next group, 2 protoss will easily advance.

sOs isn't as good as he used to be but is he worse than Ragnarok?
PartinG may have thrown but when a terran throws it's "imba Protoss, terran is 10 times harder to play, no wonder he makes mistakes , does he have to play like Maru to have a chance?" When a Protoss throws it's "omg he sucks"
TL DR This sounds like a bunch of excuses - from what I've seen Protoss isn't significantly stronger than the other races.

only on team liquid and battlenet forum do i read that sOs, one of the greatest protoss players in lotv, and one of the greatest protoss players of all time, and parting, another one of the greatest protoss players of all time and with strong runs in the GSL recently, are called lackluster. sOs was a blizzcon contender (semifinalist) and makes deep runs in super tournaments, and he's being written off as some run of the mill b-tier protoss lmao

I dont understand this obsession over history. sOs is still a good player, but he is past his prime. So is Parting, and Zest. They are all legendary protosses, but that does not mean they will be on the top forever. Stats, Classic and Trap are currently far above this trio, and so is Hurricane form wise.

Stats being eliminated by Cure once doesn't mean it should happen again. It's not completely 100% certain that stats will win, but he is heavily favoured in that matchup. Lets say stats should win that battle 7/10 times. Pointing out that in the past that 3/10 occurrence showed up, is not evidence that it'll happen again next time. There's still a 7/10 chance that cure loses.
You could spin it the other way around as well: Cure won because Stats underestimated him. Stats won't underestimate him a second time. But it's all somewhat irrelevant to my overarching point which is that so far 2 protoss have been eliminated and it wasn't major upsets because of Protoss being underpowered. It was just sOs being sOs, and PartinG deciding senselessly overextending his aggression was a good gameplan 3 times in a row.
It also says nothing about sOs or PartinG's past performances. If you look at the Greatest of All Time votes, you'll see I clearly voted for sOs as a top 10 greatest player of all time. That doesn't really mean he's great now. MVP is also one of the greatest players of all time, but if he returns from retirement tomorrow, I expect him to get wrecked worse than Bomber was yesterday.

And today was just one of those days it didn't work.
only on team liquid and battlenet forum do i read that sOs, one of the greatest protoss players in lotv, and one of the greatest protoss players of all time, and parting, another one of the greatest protoss players of all time and with strong runs in the GSL recently, are called lackluster. sOs was a blizzcon contender (semifinalist) and makes deep runs in super tournaments, and he's being written off as some run of the mill b-tier protoss lmao
parting's games only prove how unforgiving protoss is. a legendary protoss player can play the game perfectly, but one mistake and the game is over with no chance to come back.
by the way, stats has literally already been eliminated from the GSL by cure this year.

You mean a Cure in great form and shiny TvP who just destroyed Zest in the last Olimoleague finals and Stats struggling in PvT as he is been doing of recent? Back then Cure beating Stats was an upset, tomorrow it would not.
And the point is not Protoss being underpowered but not overpowered, there is a difference.

Weird, it seemed to me he had two ro4 runs in Code S. We'll see tomorrow, at the moment thinking Stats wins the bo3 70% of the times is not realistic.

I dont understand this obsession over history. sOs is still a good player, but he is past his prime. So is Parting, and Zest. They are all legendary protosses, but that does not mean they will be on the top forever. Stats, Classic and Trap are currently far above this trio, and so is Hurricane form wise.

You guys are right
sOs is past his prime.
Here's what an sOs past his prime looks like
semi finalist in 2019 super tournament 1
2018 blizzcon semi finalist (after wiping the floor with arguably the strongest player in 2018)
finalist in 2018 super tournament 2
a finalist in last year’s IEM
second at 2017 Code S3
top 4 2018 code S s1
second at 2016 code S S3
If you don't think that's "great" I don't know what to tell you
and last two GSLs he's getting absolutely bullied by the likes of Special and Ragarok
The same special who has never beaten neeb until the last WCS
or i guess all the protoss players are getting worse at the same time???
