Master's Coliseum is back in 2018 and it's starting with a bang! Here is what is in store with SCboy's biggest event to date.

(Wiki)Master%27s Coliseum/3

Master's Coliseum 2018 will be a dual-game event with StarCraft 2 and Warcraft 3. For StarCraft 2, the format is as follows:

The main event will be a 16-man GSL style tournament, but the groups will be selected with regions in mind.

Group China: consists of 3 players advanced from the Chinese Qualifier and one seeded player, (P)Cyan;
Group Korea: consists of 3 players advanced from the Korean Qualifier and one seeded player, (Z)Rogue;
Group Wildcard: consists of 3 players advanced from the Wildcard Qualifier and one seeded player, (P)Zest. The qualifier is open to all players, including eliminated players from the previous two qualifiers.
Group Training House: consists of 4 players advanced from the Training House Qualifiers, reserved for players currently residing in the NetEase StarCraft training house and the Korean training house, each training house will have their own qualifier.

The groups will be standard GSL style group with a slight twist: there will be a final best of 5 match between the top 2 finishers, and the "1st place player" will start with a 1-0 advantage, winner advances to the final bracket.

The 4 group winners will join four invited players in the final, offline single elimination bracket. The invited players are: (T)INnoVation, (T)TIME, (Z)Scarlett, (P)Neeb.

It is same as 'wildcard qualifier'

Chinese scene is fairly active but also very insular.

Yeah, quite a shame, it has a lot of potential that could hopefully be realised had they opened themselves up to the rest of the world.

We are basically as open as it can be tbh, the Bnet server isolation leaves us very little options.

Is there no way to play on the Korean server from China?

Oh not about that. That's mostly about local tournaments getting little coverage due to foreign casters not being able to observe the matches. God knows how much trouble we had when I was trying to get Tenshi and Alex into GPL lobbies a couple years back.

Doesn't casting off a live-feed solve the problem?

Accessing the chinese streaming sites is still kind of pain and it's annoying to deal with without proper language support, also the overall broadcast quality was often up in the air since back then Chinese production didn't really have top of the shelf encoding quality and in-game observing. It was a bandaid solution at best, and when the Chinese orgs finally upped their job at overall production, the ship has sailed for a dedicated oversea audience due to the sheer amount of inconsistency over the years.

Hopefully there's some English coverage for the playoffs, so often the issues with the Chinese events are a shame for us in terms of trying to watch ;;

I'm not a fan of a tournament inviting players and seeding them directly into the money.

Especially ones that would have trouble getting there by competing

They are surely popular in China, and since it is an offline tournament i find it understandable.

Plus INno and Neeb are competitive most of the time.
