That game was incredibly well played out by Scarlett.

Really slick by Scarlett.

Scarlett's ZvZ has looked incredible this year so far.

Looks like I missed the first game, but considering this is ZvZ, I might as well skip the rest of the series anyhow

This whole two picture view is nice looking and all, but it's so much less efficient at using the full screen than the normal picture in a picture set-up.

Scarlett has looked the better player all 3 games. Could have been a 3-0 if she played that one defense just a little bit better.

Whomever wins the lower bracket is heavily favored against whomever wins the upper bracket.
So most likely sOs takes home another paycheck. It's been awhile for him, I suppose his mother needs a new car.

SpeCial's TvZ hasn't been looking all that special, so I think Elazer could take it despite his iffy ZvT. Though in either case I think Elazer would have much better chances than Scarlett in the finals.

Eh she can be very hit or miss, part of the reason I didn't have her beating Serral initially. But if she's having a good tournament and a good day she has shown she can take on the best Terrans, even with MBL. And let's not gloss over the fact Special went 3-2 vs. Bly, and I would give Scarlett a much higher chance against Special than Bly usually.

Nah just saying it's there isn't dye or a fancy haircut, and the last time she was playing that good was when she just had the poneytale, it's just a joke.

Bruh, it's simply not fun to look through comments and see something negative about your hair, makeup, dress, etc. He cleared it up by saying it was a joke about her different hairstyles over the years but it didn't come off well by alluding she didn't pay much for a haircut. But just like that they cleared it up and we can go on to talk about a TvP.

Basically, if/when Scarlett beats $O$ in the finals and wins a Premier tournament in Korea the first excuse is she only won it because she only had to play one real series since she got to the finals by soundly outplaying 3 other foreign Zergs.
And really, like Serral before him, Elazer is probably feeling a little embarrassed right now because that series was a drubbing. Not gonna talk bad about Cham though, he's trying, he'll get there eventually.

Yeah he had a failed early game and allowed enemy siege units to setup in a hard to dislodge location but still somehow had a more powerfull army, my point exactly.

but that you still die because protoss is protoss. Pretty sure sOs had higher army value there with all the colo and immortal But Special should be able to trade much better with some focus fire there. Feels like there is a lot of colo with empty shield at the end.

Terran whines make no sense. Protoss have insane phat stuff but it's difficult to get to that point. Terran needs to be aggressive so protoss can't get to that point or if they do they are super behind.

I don't wanna say 4-0, but I suspect it might just be that. sOs versus most people in this bracket would be a 4-0/4-1. I think maybe 4-2 against Elazer or Serral. He might have lost against Zest. In his current form I'd say he is definitely one of the top Koreans. And against foreigners, not dropping a single map to foreigners is almost expected of any top Korean. Serral could have won at least 2 games imo... Scarlett on the other hand i really dont know I don't like Serral's style at all against Koreans since he is so macro-heavy. That style works best against players with inferior mechanics, and the biggest difference between foreigners and Koreans is their mechanics.

We haven't seen a lot of Scarlett ZvP outside of her vs Neeb and she always struggles against him, so lets wait, maybe she has something.

That was signature Scarlett. It's like shellshock or PTSD. It makes me think she can't be doing as well as she is doing. BUT I STILL HAVE THE DREAM

Scarlett almost always plays standard macro ZvP. No cheeses, rushes, timing attacks. Which plays into sOs' hands, he'll almost certainly go for some 5-6 minute chargelot/archon aggression, or some other build that no one has ever thought of.

u consider serral a regular foreigner, but his mechanics and tactics are some of the best for his race. his multitasking and zergling abuse is seriously underappreciated.
guys, special did his best and prepared hard. u can armchair of hindsight it all you want, but sOs simply had a counter-intuitive style to special's. you build tanks to hit a sharp timing (or to hope they get desperate if they are weaker oppo.), not to sit at home

Zest on the zerg side of the bracket was the best thing that could happen to sOs. I hope Scarlett puts or fight or that we see a total domination so that the final can be fun in one way or another.

She does her share of proxy hatches and ling floods (though most often against players she knows well like Neeb).

The way he is playing tanks is just so easy to see and counter for the protoss, he's playing like it's TvZ where midgame armies cannot ever be perfectly crafted to deal with tanks.
I think the biggest thing that was missing unit wise from special was liberators, and the lack of multiprong was really uncharacteristic.
The style he went for is much better suited for the current mass gateway meta, since I do think that terran can afford to sit back and build good splash there, but he saw that SoS was going for a heavy robo deathballish army every game, and played a passive style instead of abusing SoS' immobility

Worked pretty well in HotS too. Unfortunately the only pro who played the style didn't play much LotV so we never got to see how well it works at the top level in LotV.

Harass was pretty good though.
However i do agree that just leaving the tanks at home and loading his entire bio force into medivacs and get them across the map while teching to ranged liberators would have made much more sense. The fact that at some point SoS sent all his zealots to runby, and that major left all his tanks sieged in the middle of the map seems to me like he simply just fucked up. I mean if SoS just had warped 10 zealots and charged into the tanks it was gg.

I see sOs has watched the recent Scarlett vs Neeb games and knows that she just sort of crumbles vs adept timings :/

That proxy hatch attempt didn't really affect sOs, as expected. Bullshit master is immune to bullshit, who knew?

i love sOs. He's like everything I hate to play against but he's showing how much potential SC2 has.

That adept defense wasn't too bad for Scarlett, but the follow-up is essentially hard countered by what sOs is going for.
edit: Wow I stand corrected. That attack went so much better than it should have.

I feel really bad for scarlett if she doesn't manage to win this series. She has to show her best builds here to win and if she doesn't, she then shows Zest her best strats for their GSL group AND doesn't walk away the champ.
In short, GO SCARLETT

I mean the chargelots are good at rounding out the composition against other units and sinking minerals, but they aren't actually good against the lurkers.

Am I the only one who thinks blue zerg looks really ugly

The way colossus got more popular in PvZ recently perplexes me a bit considering the hydra nerfs and lurker centric play getting even more common (which I feel benefits chargelot/immortal/archon a bit more). The vagaries of the meta are interesting as always.

Time for some tricks sOs. Scarlett has clearly learned her lessons about how to beat standard Protoss from all her losses against Neeb over this last month.

It seems like SoS is either over-respecting or under-respecting Scarlet. Two really safe openings, two losses.

This is dissapointing for me. I took a big hiatus in the game, but came back recently. I have 60% winrate vs T and P but 30% vs Zerg. Wanted to see sOs vs Zerg and get strats...he's as bad (comparatively) as me in ZvP lol

I'm a bit sceptical due to how good lings are at detonating the new nova, and how precious robo time is with lurkers in the game, but we'll see.

It's weird, sOs has refused to get storm the first two games. He needed it against Lurkers.

Game 2 on Neon Violet Square: Standard ZvP, hydra lurker with drops, sOs went with Colossi instead of storm, two pronged attack, killed him.
Game 3 on Backwater: dropperlord ling cheese

This is why zergs go hydras pretty much every game versus protoss now. Its the only ranged unit we have that does enough dps to kill immortals, especially with the new warp prism pick up range, immortals are pretty much invinsible versus roaches., as long as you got some zlot tanking

As Rotti pointed out, sOs had some egregious errors in his defense, but Scarlett also played it out about as well as she could have. Scarlett was unstoppable this tournament, and sOs seemed to let the pressure get to him

Scarlett has a chance to get to the Ro8 in GSL. Zest has pretty shaky PvZ, and sure, she may lose against Inno, but she has a good chance of beating Leenock, her ZvZ looks immaculate.

Well let's see...Scarlett went 9-2 against Cham, Serral, and Elazer, two of the best Zergs in WCS, and with Zest looking awful in PvZ and Scarlett going 4-1 against one of the trickiest Protoss in the world....I would yeah, there's a good chance that Scarlett makes it to the ro8 in GLS.

That was hype, but I guess I'm more fan of macro games. When noregret made it to code S twice with those deoplord ling rushes you know something is wrong. Also the most critical problem with PVZ is not early game aggression by zerg, it's about Protoss has to open SG so that they don't die to zerg bullshit, and when P opens SG zerg can drone up pretty easily into mid-game and do whatever they want.
|

After a long day of competition the last thing most players want to do is have their brain probed. Keep the interview short and sweet and then let them go relax. And Rotti had some good points that plenty of viewers probably missed too.

I'm fine with analysts analyzing. Post match interviews are very hit and miss, especially if it's right after before they've had time to collect their thoughts. I think they did a great job of highlighting players with their biographical video segments they showed off during breaks.
|
You know how the foreigners always seem to just die to adept pressure, I always wondered what the games would look like if they just...made some safety units? That purple square map is exactly what I have always wanted to see, safety units totally shutting sOs down. So hyped for Scarlett right now, sweet revenge for that reverse 3-2 loss in the RedBull battlegrounds semi final in 2013!!!!

Only two Koreans were allowed in this event let's be honest if Koreans were allowed in every Qualifier then you probably end up with soO innovation etc being in the tournament too and unlikely for Scarlett to qualify/win then.
Regardless congrats to Scarlett she played really well hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

The good results of foreigners can be explained in 2 ways, either they became really good or Koreans are becoming worse. With the retreat of KeSPA from SC2 and most of the great teams no longer supporting players I doubt that foreigners are suddenly so godlike.
Yes, currently the fully unlocked WCS would be dominated by Koreans. But they wouldn't unlock it immediatelly and even if we start talking right now I doubt they would unlock it for the next year. ANd in 2 years we can have locked GSL for the same reasons WCS is locked now ;-)
Edit> I don't mean to lower Scarlett's success - she played really well(and she played well in the past too). But I don't think she played much better than before(e.g. her game vs. Bomber(I believe)).

How does this logic apply to the fact she advanced to the RO16 in GSL? The good results of foreigners can be explained in 2 ways, either they became really good or Koreans are becoming worse. With the retreat of KeSPA from SC2 and most of the great teams no longer supporting players I doubt that foreigners are suddenly so godlike. Yes, currently the fully unlocked WCS would be dominated by Koreans. But they wouldn't unlock it immediatelly and even if we start talking right now I doubt they would unlock it for the next year. ANd in 2 years we can have locked GSL for the same reasons WCS is locked now ;-) Edit> I don't mean to lower Scarlett's success - she played really well(and she played well in the past too). But I don't think she played much better than before(e.g. her game vs. Bomber(I believe)).
Yes the Korean scene is declining in terms of number of players I dont think quality wise, I do think foreigners are getting better. Having 1 foreigner in GSL ro16 doesn't really prove much we've had foreigners in later stages when there was no region lock. Honestly having 4 more tournaments a year where Koreans can participate I don't think its going to help their scene much it just means innovation etc earn some more money and travel a bit more the main problem that I see is a lack of interest in SC2 in Korea, lack of teams/houses and grassroots.
I don't see how letting top Koreans travel to WCS is going to help solve any of those problems.

Guess that'll keep the Scarlett overhype going for the next couple of mediocre years. She eliminated Serral but no need to be rude. She wasn't more hyped than other top zergs in the past (Snute, Nerchio?) Yeah, and Serral played disappointingly badly also? Good for Scarlett for playing better than that.
Wasn't any more hyped as players who've had way more results over the last three years or so? Woah.

We always knew Scarlett was good tho, for example the reads with the banelings vs bomber, and the mechanics of that 800 apm. Now it's all coming together \o/

First gold at the Winter Olympics goes to Canada. Couldn’t be less surprised

Except Scarlett received a silver plate instead of a gold medal...

I am sooo frickin happy right now you have no idea.

that's the winter olympic effect on canadian players, excellent news and good job scarlett

sOs certainly made some mistakes that series, but as someone who's followed Oregon Ducks football for 15 years, I'm used to people who don't understand forced errors telling me my team's wins don't mean anything because the opponent played poorly. The amount of pressure Scarlett was able to put on sOs was outstanding.

sOs was jetlaged and had lag (WE WANT LAN), no wonder why he lost

And that's exactly what the missing region lock in Korea is doing. The same arguments why implement region lock in WCS now can be safely used for Korea. If you limit travel expanses then only rich Korean can travel as there are no longer any big teams(except JAGW) who can afford sending Koreans left and right. Because if the Koreans fail(and they can fail) then they're at lost.
Obviously the easiest solution is to lock the Korea too

Yes cause foreigners dominate Korean tournaments and Koreans barely get into the top 8 not.

Were there any recommended matches?

Actually on second thought maybe don't trust those because everyone was voting 5 stars because of scarlett

Yeah don't trust the polls. For the finals from a pure gameplay standpoint game 4 was very good, games 1 and 2 were good but nothing exceptional, and games 3 and 5 were rather bad.
|
I would recommend Game 4, others ranged from decent to meh.

hahah Nice work Scarlett !
Congrats on winning [IEM XII] PyeongChang !!! xD
