G1 - proxy factory (mine drop into cyclone/liberator follow-up) vs proxy stargate, the mine drop does nothing and Byun dies to 4 oracles
G2 - a double medivac stim drop from ByuN does a bit of damage at the 3rd but not enough for a kill, the game goes long with ByuN going ghost/bio/medivac/viking while sOs goes for adept/sentry/stalker/colossus/voidray (!), sOs forgot thermal lance and takes a very bad fight where he chases until all of his colossi are dead
G3 - not much really going on, sOs forces a lift on ByuN's 3rd but ByuN regains control eventually, then sOs begins dropping and warping in adepts in ByuN's main and ByuN takes some losses albeit nothing critical as sOs is going into colossi, suddenly all adepts from sOs's main army complete a shade right next to ByuN's full army and get killed in seconds, the counter attack kills sOs's puny army
G4 - more proxy mine drop/liberator shenanigans from ByuN, after some damage is done, sOs decides to do an adept all-in (7-gate) that gets shut down super hard so he has to give up
G5 - sOs tries to go for DTs but a drop from ByuN spots it, his 6 marines do way more damage than they ever should have in sOs's main, the DTs arrive but ByuN reacts in time and only takes minor losses, ByuN finds more harassment damage, a moveout with 2 tanks and some marines kills sOs's 3rd base, sOs hangs on for a bit with colossi but eventually just has to tap out because he got too far behind

Nice. TL & Penev curses lifted.

You going with Solar or Dark for tomorrow? I went with Solar because Dark's ZvZ usually isn't great and Solar has to make up for season 1.

I went with Dark despite his mediocre ZvZ cuz of experience in Korean finals and I kinda expect him to be able to repair much of his ZvZ incompetence practicing just for this

Edit: Oh yeah, Dark did win 4-2 vs Solar in the winners finals of the previous SSL as well

I'm pretty sure Dark is gonna win, too. It's what my gut says at least. But I kinda want Solar to win. But hey, they'll both be at Blizzcon 99% so it's fine.

I sure hope he does. We haven't had a back-to-back starleague champ since... Nestea ? Or maybe Zest if you count that GSL + GSL World championship.

The tournament Zest won wasn't really a league so I'd say since Nestea. Fitting if it would be Dark.

Btw anyone else super hyped for the KeSPA Cup qualifiers on Tuesday? sOs, ByuN, Dark, Solar, TY, Dear, Classic and many more great players. The brackets of death will be real.

Will it be streamed?

Yeah. But it won't be easy.

Very unlikely ... he is not in the top form ... I think, he can actually win the cross finals, but do not give him many chances going through KesPa cup ...

So amazing. I'm sad the games weren't great, but I'm elated for ByuN. This is a story you wouldn't dare to write for a Hollywood story. After a heartbreaking loss in semis vs Seed, a two year hiatus, the crowd favorite comes teamless and emerges victorious. Beautiful and probably one of the best storylines ever in GSL.

I just watched Game 2. sOs forgot Extended Thermal Lance! No wonder the fight was so one sided! Hyped up and no one noticed that mistake!

if sOs doesn't win the cross finals he has to 100% win kespa cup to get into Blizzcon. However if he wins cross finals he only needs to qualify for kespa cup or do okay in it (depending on if Classic gets in). The hopes of a returning champ all depend on the cross finals now, which I feel like will be a Byun vs sOs rematch.

Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

No, no brackets yet, gonna have to wait until Tuesday. But it can only be great.

Agree about sOs, he has decent chances at the cross finals but he also has to do well in KeSPA Cup which will be harder (hard enough to qualify for, too!), doesn't look great for his Blizzcon chances. But we'll see, less likely things have happened.

Nope. You know how Byun always hugs Maru and shit? Inno is even more important to him. He's the biggest fanboy.

Guys is ByuN Gumba?

Well Byun and Maru used to be on the same team. Why the fuck would he be a fanboy of some other pro whos also playing the same race (and worse than byun, too) xD

He said the first time he met Inno, Inno had this kind of superstar aura about him. Something special.

Seriously this is fucking hilarious. Any chance there is some form to watch or read about that?

Watch the Ro16 GSL group selection for this season, they spent a lot of time talking about this.

Where can we watch this GSL group selection with English subs?

I wouldn't know of a version with subtitles, only one where Jay (the producer) translates everything live, those are linked on the LP page for GSL.

Even though this era is the weakest ever, it's amazing that ByuN won especially teamless. He looked like the best player in the world against Dear and sOs was a bit disappointing so it's hard to know for sure, we'll have to see Blizzcon and Cross final as well... Best terran of LotV tho, fitting since he was the monster on early LotV as well with only some problems offline.

HOLY SHIT! BYUN!!!

This has been a shit year, but there have been a few bright spots. This is one of them. What a cool story, ByuN pretty much vanishes for an entire expansion after having not been even remotely top-tier since 2012. Then resurfaces out of nowhere with no team and becomes the 6th Terran GSL champ off the back of stopping the sOs money train. Insane.

I've been saying it for months now:
ByuNjwa!

PS: I have read the whole thread and I wholeheartedly agree on the negativity comments. Pls cheer up, ByuN storyline is awesome, and he proved. Gotta be happy about that! Also, he had a saying or two about sOs' mistakes through game reading imho (which adds to the series we all watched).

How could anyone not enjoy this final? It was so satisfying to watch Adept and Oracle cheese get beaten over and over.

If you saw the poker hype video with Gyuri...this finals was amazing.

Was working today so couldn't catch it live. Just finished watching the VoD.

Man ByuN is soooooooooooo good. This was really insane to watch, especially game 2 and 3. Really great play, well deserved victory.

This has been the GSL (and Starcraft overall) finals I enjoyed the most in a loooooooong time. A classic for me, maybe because the one I cheered for won.

Looking forward to see ByuN fight for the Blizzcon championship!
