how to the teams decide who to send out?
lets say
1. KT wants to play zest
2. JAG wants to send rouge to counter
3. KT doesnt want to play zest vs rouge, sends TY
4. JAG doesnt want rouge to play TY, sends Maru
5. KT doesnt want TY vs Maru again, wants to send Zest..

..
etc
how does it work?

each team picks their player without knowing who the other team is picking, it's blind

is this the same for non-ace matches as well?

yes. Map order is known and teams send their picks for each map out in advance

This genuinely gives me a slight hope for island maps in sc2.

Great strategy by Stats, and great design with the islands. I really hope people experiment more with these air blockers

gonna be really fun in ZvP with Zerg going nydus all-in every time

Well yeah, nydus will be massive weakness for this style but holy crap imagine if Stats spammed a bunch of cannons at the entrances to the islands. A protoss would never be able to reach the base with anything that isn't air.
Ganzi beat me without stim. Ostojiy beat me with a nydus. Siphonn beat me with probes. Revival beat my sentry-immortal all-in.

Stats probably not comfortable with the risk of hitting Maru.

Isn't it basically a rule that when Zest loses his first game he plays the ace match?

Rogue best Zerg player that is allowed to play in Korea confirmed. Other Zergs simply don't get to be the Ace match

I thought very strongly that Maru would beat TY, but these other games have been pure Tom-fuckery. I figured that they chose Rogue to snipe Zest in the first game with a particular strategy for Frost, but I'm surprised to see them send him out again against Zest (I know it's blind but there was a really high chance Zest was coming out) when he already played him once. Zest is strong in a longer series (as most top tier players are) but I'm just wondering what Rogue has that makes them believe that he can take another game off of Zest with what people are saying is a Z imbalance in the Korean meta.

MORE WILL BE REVEALED, AMEN FOR A FINALS PREVIEW, and this has been a great day for SC2 no matter what the results, and I'm a JA fan from HELL

yes, all match ups are pre determined. Coach picks a player for each map without knowing the other teams pick.

thats pretty lucky... cuz i often see rogue vs zest..

part of it is knowing which map they'd want to send Zest on, they won't want to send Zest on a map where Protoss is weaker

Stats & TY together played 3 ace matches this year, Zest now plays his 4th.

You're insinuating that the cheater is better than Rogue? We haven't even seen Life in a while, plus he had slowly lost form over his last times in SC2. I guess it's impossible to say what his form was since there was matchfixing involved T_T

Well... I mean...

The map pool was Overgrowth/Frost/King Sejong/Gettysburg. I'm pretty sure they sent him out on the worst Protoss map.
