Frankly, I'm quite surprised by the map pool, especially the addition of the new-ish maps.. Aren't MM, Bridgehead and Dash & Terminal slightly Zerg-favoured against Protoss due to the backdoors which makes Toss vulnerable to early game cheeses and busts? (Also, Iron Fortress can be daunting for Toss as well.) - Classic lost G4 and G5 against Life on MM and Bridgehead in truly heart-breaking fashion - sOs won against Life on MM and DT with both sides playing funky, losing on Bridgehead (well, all the games were generally funky and sOs is not the typical solid Toss, so probably the map pool worked to his style and balanced things out). Also, Rogue tried a backdoor cheese on Bridgehead against sOs but lost badly. I really felt Classic got shafted by the map pool (in the semies against Life). Even in the recent KeSPA Cup when he lost to Flash, I remembered him venting out against the newly released maps (back then). Parting, Rain and herO got knocked out by their own Toss brethren. Yes, Byul and Rogue got 3-0ed by Classic and sOs, but the two Zergs look really shaky and off-form in those matches. Life benefitted greatly from the map-pool, which suited his aggressive and chaotic style. The new-ish maps also throw out some unpredictable games in the other racial match-ups. And ultimately, the agents of chaos i.e. Life and sOs sweeping away the mechanical players. Life and sOs truly deserved their place in the finals, not trying to downplay their achievements here. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire tourney and finals. But I just can't help but wonder if the results turned out the way they did partly due to the map pool. | ||
