There are a number of hotels in the area, the Youmacon page has some reccomendations. Depends on how far away you want to be. The RenCen is a quick elevator ride from the venue, but would probably be a little more pricey.

I would totally win a costume contest.

No prerequisites. Come, play, have fun and maybe even get your match streamed to the world.

Cools!

Then are you allowed to bring your own Keyboard/mouse? (Assuming they are tournament legal)

Yes, you may bring your own keyboard/mouse so long as they do not require external power.

If we just want a gaming ticket for the tournament only, do we have to get it at the door? I don't see an option to get the $35 gaming ticket online

This post says you can purchase a pass for just the video game events, but on the youmacon website it says there are only 3 types of passes with only platinum people being allowed to enter a tournament, can someone clarify?

EDIT: Nevermind, just checked around a bit, confirmed that you definitely can just buy a gaming area pass, however for some reason they've only listed it under the "Video Gaming" section and not the "Registration" section -- for anyone else having the same issue. Cheers.

I wasn't aware of such a thing going on at Youmacon! I don't know if I'll be able to go or not, I'll be starting a new job the same week of Youmacon so I doubt I'll have the capital to even be able to attend, much less the practice required to even participate. If you're going to be doing more stuff in the Metro Detroit area please post it (or if you have the impetus, send a PM since sometimes it's hard to find the less popular threads here on TL) because I would love to get involved in some way with eSports here in the midwest.

@OldManSlum & Ukko, yep all those things! Just important to note/remember that registration for the SC2 ends at 10am saturday, so if you plan to play be sure to get signed up at the gaming area for it ahead of time, or at least before then. Seeding/brackets will be generated by 10:30am saturday and the first matches will start at 11am sharp.

We should have at least 10 gaming stations, plus the stage to have up to 6 concurrent matches going.

Will send a pm mrarthursimon, if you have an email or something I will add it to my "contact about events list" Also you can just follow on Twitter if you use it as I always tweet about stuff we are doing http://twitter.com/wingnutsc

Getting close guys!

I use twitter quite a bit, same name as I use on the forums here, mrarthursimon, as well for my email, just @ gmail. I spend most of my time on twitter live tweeting matches when leagues are running, trying to draw attention to the fact that if Blizzard wants their eSports to be legit they have to take the social media stance that other professional sporting organizations do and actually live tweet their games.

I'd love to get an email just because it's really hard to catch things as they happen on twitter, I could spend days reading through past tweets sometimes and still miss things that are important.

And building midwest eSports presence is certainly something that's very close to home and important to me.

Sorry guys, will probably not participate this year. I got way too busy with school and I've probably played less than 20 games this past year. So no worries about me messing up the schedule X). I really wanted to get into sc2 again and compete but I just haven't been able to have fun with it, it's too time consuming and emotionally investing to play/practice with also having school. Instead I'll be participating in Smash 4 this year ( I barely missed the registration last year because my games were taking a lot longer to close out since I was playing on a glitchy mouse and not my own cus I thought I left it at the hotel, but it turned out it was in my backpack with me all along lol ).

Well one thing that made me feel less bad is that this mappool seemed horrendous for mech anyway haha

Hopefully maybe next year? Will visit anyway, will be nice seeing you guys all there again!

6 concurrent matches on stage? How would that work? (The streamed match and other people playing around them? Or do the others have their own display screens too?)
