if you enjoyed blackcompany series which i would think you did, i recommend the malazan series. the author was greatly influenced by the blackcompany books. also wheel of time really slows down in the middle and it was due to the author's health. even though he had the story mapped out sanderson (mistborn series) had to finish it for him. he wasn't nearly as eloquent as robert jordan. the series gets much worse until the final 2 books sadly. still worth reading imo.

Malazan isn't for everyone. Heavy on exposition (though exposition is handled entirely differently from how most others handle it) and philosophy and dark enough to make anyone lose hope in the future. The payoffs are immense, though, they're extremely good stories, but they're entirely different from the Wheel of Time. Don't suppose you've read the Prince of Nothing series?

How far in did you get? Midnight Tides is probably one of my favorites in the series, though at least as much for its differences. The series goes back to familiar ground after Book 5 and gets more "explosive" from Bonehunters and onward.

I think Malazan is slightly darker than the Black Company, if not overtly then at least for the histories of peoples and prominent characters. It's a hard comparison to make, of course, and they were both written in the same vein, but Deadhouse Gates and Toll the Hounds were the only novels to ever make me cry.
The final books of Wheel of Time made the entire journey worth it for me personally(although I loved every novel save one.)

i loved wheel of time as well for what it was with action, adventure, and a coming of age story. i enjoy malazan for it's epic world building. doesn't hurt that steven erikson is an archaeologist. the whole series can be pretty dense at times with exposition however as you stated but i feel it's pretty well done. the history and stories the characters tell you aren't reliable and you just get dropped into the world from the get go. reminds me a little of dark souls which is the only single player game i've enjoyed.
